I'm no expert in this department, but cable or not, putting it in a Saturday slot is never a completely good thing.

I think it spent enough time on the air before it's move to Saturday that it accumulated a fanbase, but I think the biggest thing is that it's lucky enough to be on a network where no show is really all that successful besides The Walking Dead.

That's a good point. It doesn't really need to do as well as the others because it knows what it is?

And yeah, I kind of wish AMC could find another Mad Men or Breaking Bad but that's harder to do now. TWD is a rating sensation but it's not in that same quality. Better Call Saul has the potential though to be a real gem. But AMC needn't worry about rating as long as they have TWD.

Better Call Saul is already a real gem, imo. But I too hope they find another BB or MM. It's just much tougher for them now because they no longer have the market for premium-cable alternatives cornered.

I agree about Saul, but it hasn't the love that BB had and in the eyes of the mainstream, still trying to break away from BB. I think it already has successfully, but to others it's still green and isn't making people go, "HOLY ****ING **** WATCH THIS GODDAMN SHOW" like BB was. Granted BB took a few years to gain traction, but we still have to take into consideration Saul is after all of BB's acclaim and attention. I imagine next season is only gonna get better. In hindsight, BB is just a sexier concept than Saul.

Ive tried to get into Saul twice and it just isnt hooking me at all. it was the same with Breaking Bad. I tried to get into the first season a couple times and couldn't so I waited until it had four seasons out and started it again and just powered through. I may have to do that with Better Call Saul.

it was the same for me... both series were no big shakes for me and didn't do ANYTHING to catch MY interest, so I just blew them off...... I just thought it was all over-rated...

Rewatched Red Dragon today. I hope Armitage can be as menacing yet tortured as Ralph Fiennes was.

Pfft... forget about Fiennes, he's got to at least match Tom Noonan.

The great thing about having six episodes to tell the Red Dragon story is that they'll be able to really delve into what makes Dolarhyde the man he is. The past two films, while good, never explored it in all that much depth.

Indeed. I didn't think Fiennes was even close to Noonan and I like Fiennes. It just wasn't as good a fit to me.

I actually wasn't impressed with Noonan. I thought Fiennes' version was much more three dimensional.

Noonan is incredible. The way he looks like a wounded baby when he thinks Reba is kissing the other coworker is a great piece of acting.

Manhunter (1986) > Red Dragon (2002)

I thought this was moved to Saturday? I guess City (the Canadian channel that carries it) decided not to follow suit, because it's airing it in its regular timeslot now. This pleases me.

Ugh, this is bull. It aired in Canada tonight but not in the U.S.

I didn't even know Canada had the technology for TV!! UGH!

It aired on one of the Canadian channels? Wish I had thought to check.

I almost can't wait for this show to be over...then I can finally stop giving NBC the Nielsen views to which is so desperately cleaves.

Here's how they work.

Nielsen television ratings are gathered in one of two ways:

Viewer "diaries", in which a target audience self-records its viewing or listening habits. By targeting various demographics, the assembled statistical models provide a rendering of the audiences of any given show, network, and programming hour.

A more technologically sophisticated system uses Set Meters, which are small devices connected to televisions in selected homes. These devices gather the viewing habits of the home and transmit the information nightly to Nielsen through a "Home Unit" connected to a phone line. The technology-based home unit system is meant to allow market researchers to study television viewing habits on a minute to minute basis, seeing the exact moment viewers change channels or turn off their television set. In addition to set meters, individual viewer reporting devices, such as people meters, have allowed the company to separate household viewing information into various demographic groups, but so far Nielsen has refused to change its distribution of data of ethnic groups into subgroups[clarification needed], which could give more targeted information to networks and advertisers.

Changing systems of viewing have impacted Nielsen's methods of market research. In 2005, Nielsen began measuring the usage of digital video recording devices such as TiVo. Initial results indicated that time-shifted viewing will have a significant impact on television ratings. A year later, the networks were not yet figuring these new results into their ad rates because of the resistance of advertisers.[2]

For the most part if you aren't writing it down or have the tech they send you they don't care. It's a pretty big cluster****.

Nielsen sent a man out to my neighborhood to recruit viewers. They gave us some pamphlets and the sales pitch and tried to make it sound like we'd be part of some big thing. They guy told me I'd get to decide what was shown on tv and offered to pay each household that partook.

Their whole "system" of gathering data is a complete joke and killed who knows how many good shows and saved who knows how many terrible shows. **** em! I've spent too long hating Nielsen and their way of doing things to ever work for them or help destroy more good television.

I need it in my life.

You all shut your ****e mouths!!!!! :argh::csad:
