Bryan Fuller said if he has his way and the show isn't cancelled we will see an entire season dedicated to the Red Dragon story arc AND appearances/references to folks like Verger etc.

Would love to see young pre- "poppers incident" Verger doing some f***ed up s***. :P

I always wondered just exactly how the Verger incident went down after the fact. Like, what happened after he cut his face? What happened to Lecter as a result? The timeline is weird and you'd think he'd be in jail after that considering he survived

He also confirmed in twitter that if things work out with MGM who owns the rights to Clarice and other characters that he intends to introduce her in season 5 (he confirmed that season 5 & 6 would be the SOTL era). But he is so passionate about this project that he hinted of using "alternatives" to Clarice if it doesn't work out, like he did with the Benjamin Raspail character who was not also allowed to use. He used this character instead:

Franklin, whom we already met in the pilot!

He confirmed other minor characters too, like Will's future wife, Molly would appear in Season 3.

Hannibal's aunt and uncle? Ugh....Anything to do with Hannibal Rising needs to be kept far, far away from this show.

I'm not crazy about the idea of bringing in Clarice either, unless Fuller is fully committed to writing Will Graham out and making Clarice the main character in what is essentially a TV remake of Silences of the Lambs. Otherwise, the writers will just be getting way too close to Smallville territory.

Nor I. Red Dragon has still yet to be properly adapted, so I'd be open to a televised remake. But The Silence of the Lambs to this day remains perfect. There is no reason to remake it.

Neither do I. Hell, I don't even really look at Hannibal as canon. It ****s on everything we know about the characters. In SOTL, Clarice takes the implication of theft as the ultimate mark of shame, yet she is okay with becoming Lecter's cannibal lover? Lecter taunted Clarice in SOTL when she tried to pinpoint a traumatic event that shaped him. Yet in Hannibal, Harris gave him just that. He is like Michael Myers. He was better without a motive. Hannibal is the equivalent to Rob Zombie taking a piss on the Halloween franchise, IMO.

So yeah, I'd be just fine with Mason Verger being left out also. Frankly, his entire existence makes the Lecter character come off as far too reckless.

That being said, it may all be moot. Shows usually drop significantly following the pilot and NBC re-airing Hannibal tonight stinks of desperation. They can talk about how this show did better than Awake and Do No Harm, but that is like calling it the best smelling piece of ****. 4 million viewers is not what NBC wanted. It may get renewed due to sheer desperation on NBC's part....but if it drops much further (which it will because almost all shows drop after the premiere), NBC will pull the cord. The cast of this show is too expensive to keep around without good ratings.

No, I plan to. I will watch the first season, but if Will isn't considerably more likeable and Lecter considerably less creepy, I probably won't come back for season 2.

Then I'll still quit watching as the concept will be fundamentally flawed. The audience should be able to root for Will and relate to him. Lecter should not be the hero. That is the problem with Hannibal and Hannibal Rising. Lecter isn't like Dexter where he kills, but for good reason. He is just a monster. He shouldn't be the relatable one.

The reason I like some of Hannibal's back story can be summed up in one word: pathology. Hannibal is human therefore subject to everything any other human being is and any killer in real life has a reason for the way they are.

I've noticed that Will Graham becomes more solitary and neurotic with each passing incarnation. If there is another Red Dragon movie, he will likely be played by Larry David.

To be accurate the reason they kill only has to make sense to them. I don't know about you people but I love everything Hannibal. I love HR the least but anything that can help explain why he is what he is welcomed. Ever since I've seen SOTL I've always wondered how this brilliant educated gentleman seemingly normal looking man be the most dangerous killer of them all. After all killers like Hannibal are rarely spawned like some demon seed forged in fire. There is a genetic disposition, but there has to be some triggering event in a environment that can fan the flames. I think Harris does that well in the book Hannibal but the whole Clarice running away with him was terrible. I mean if it was anybody else but any other woman but Clarice cause she knows he can never change.

I ended up watching Hannibal Rising last night, that was, something. I honestly couldn't tell if they trying too hard or not hard enough, while still feeling phoned in. There are some elements that could have worked, but they're horribly developed and Gaspard Ulliel's endless mugging was distracting.

The Hannibal Rising book was so much better than the film. I try to pretend the movie doesn't exist.
