I never got an impression that Major was about heroism. She's more like an adrenaline junkie, as well as harsh, hot-tempered and impulsive.

She's not hot-tempered at all. In fact, she rarely ever loses her cool. She has no problem playing the long game in order to get one over on her enemy. And if she has her enemy, she doesn't mess around with them. She nukes them from orbit.

She is a heroic figure in that she's not really an anti-hero and she does fight cyber-criminals and terrorists.

Even in Innocence, she returned to help Batou bust open a human trafficking ring.

Again, I don't think you're understanding. I put "whitewashing" in quotes for a reason. It's a non issue. They obviously knew going in that adapting this property would cause controversy because the internet like to blindly judge things. So I appreciate that they had the balls to tackle that head on. Adapting a Japanese product in America is inherently "controversial". They could have just let a "whitewashing" controversy over take the film but they had the forethought to incorporate it into the plot, which in turn makes it much richer, fuller experience for general audiences and the fans alike. It adds a nice layer of subtext. Also makes the story of Motoko a much more emotional and relevant one in comparison to the original.

But again, I'm not going to speak on this anymore in response to you since you haven't seen the film to really grasp any concept presented in it.

Can only echo what a lot have said, its ok, nothing special, it has some nice visuals and sound design but the character and story are dumbed down to almost child like levels with none of the subtlety of the original film, its all ham-fisted and bash you over the head to get the point over. Section 9 are sadly wasted as well, never really get to know anyone other than Batou a bit and he was pretty well done but the rest get maybe a line, some even just turn up out of nowhere.

The rating really hampered the action, everything felt weightless and nothing really stood out at all, very disappointing in that regard.

Its like they fell between two stalls, one one hand wanting to recreate the original shot for shot yet on the other come up with their own story and character motivations but all this did was make some things feel shoe-horned in to this story with no real reason or explanation, very odd all round. Shame as the world created was interesting but all feels like a waste in the end and will be surpassed by many other films this year that it will end up forgotten by most I would guess. At least there is plenty of great GiTS material around to make up for this "diet" or "lite" version, which might work as an entry point for some to the world but little else.

I think it is, especially by the way Scarjo and others handled the press interviews when the "controversy" was discussed. I never said it was valiant, but it's smart either way.

I want that MGS with Solid Snake storyline which come out 1998 as adaptation on big screen. One of my favorite games ever. That was Last of Us of my generation. No game did it before it and capture cinematic feel before it.

Off-topic but...Jordan Vogt-Roberts (Kong: Skull Island) is currently working on trying to get MGS made into live action. I wasn't a fan of K:SI so I'm not too crazy about him directing an MGS movie but I know a lot of people who are ecstatic.

Raiden's the worst character though.

Acknowledging that the character is genetically "Asian" doesn't really fix or address the issue competently IMHO. She was still cast to make sure the movie had the most lucrative star possible. And the movie still bombed in the US.

I'll leave it at impulsive. I probably used the wrong word (not hot-tempered, sorry for my English), and Major is quite different between the manga, '95 film and SAC. In the manga she has quite a temper. She behaves erratically from time to time, she's often instinct-driven. In SAC she's far more chill.

I moderately enjoyed this and thought it was reasonably well adapted, especially compared to stuff like Dragonball Evolution and Last Airbender.

Doesn't deserve to flop.

It's too dull for the general audience but I feel like nerds should give it a shot.

I do think that addressing the [BLACKOUT]whether the Major is more Mira or Motoko, or a mix,[/BLACKOUT] is ripe for a sequel. Plus, I really enjoyed what little we saw of the full Section 9 team.

Pity that we are not likely to see a sequel.

Major didn't need an origin story whatsoever. It turns the film into yet another cheap Robocop remake. As well as ruins certain themes of GitS.

Robocop remake was a little more entertaining than this though. I really don't think general audiences are gonna like this. I could tell my crowd was bored out of their minds.

Yeah, there was maybe like two instances of humor and you know we like our blockbuster spectacle with the funny. It's just very dour, which is in line with the source material.
