E3 2013 - Part 1

I'm not saying that X-Box One is going to be MS's Dreamcast (its not nearly awesome enough to be the Dreamcast)....but it might be their Sega Saturn. In other words, MS might be on the brink of destruction. IMO, this generation is already lost for them, in a big way. It'll be interesting to see if they can pull back.

There are a lot of rumors that MS may actually follow through with the subsidized pricing between now and launch and offer an extremely discounted XB1 with a some kind of contract.

Something like that could certainly change things for them, restrictions or not. If you can get a $299 or less console with an X year XBL contract (a service you'd be paying anyway), it would appeal to a lot of people.

Sony entirely dominates Microsoft, has a great showing and really introduces the world to the PS4.

Microsoft further alienates audiences, makes every mistake that Sony made in 2006 and throws in a rape joke for good measure.

I think it is pretty safe to say that Sony has won E3.
It makes me wonder, I know Sony said they didn't have a machine yet to show in February, but I wonder if the decision to show their console first kind of backfired on Microsoft. Sony came out first and announced the PS4, but they didn't show all of their cards. Microsoft, on the other hand, was acting almost in a defensive state, especially after all the knocks they got for their TV talk at their reveal.

The funny thing is that a lot of people said the same thing about the Wii U being Nintendo's Dreamcast. Now, all of a sudden, pending a price cut, the Wii U and 3DS don't seem to look all that bad, even though Nintendo is still in a sticking situation since they're basically reliant on the fan support of their first party games. But most people are saying fairly positive things about them today, which is a stark contrast from whats being said about Microsoft.

Mega Man shows up in Nintendo's crossover fighter yet Capcom couldn't be bothered to put him in either of the two editions of their own. Big fail on their part
It's obvious he's better off in Nintendo's hands . they actually want to do stuff with him and will if they had him. But it's not likely to buy him from capcom unfortunately.

(Not to anyone in particular)

Any of these consoles will sell millions if you reduce price enough. That doesn't mean success by itself. You need to be making sales at a price fair to the costs of your console business model & future expected profits stream. Otherwise you are giving it away to an extent & being forced to cut price rather than choosing to do so is a sign of failure. Most people saying how crap a wii U is would get one tomorrow if the price was reduced enough. The consoles are of a fixed quality at this stage whatever their price which is just a strategy (incorrect strategy in some cases). A low price doesn't make it better, just a better bargain.

I just bought a Wii U actually and am glad I did moreso after seeing what's coming.

Wii U's BC is a big factor so I'll get it & trade in my dusty wii as soon as the price drops enough & by that time the good games will be out for it.

I'm never getting a wii-u, never got a wii either. The last nintendo console I owned was the gamecube and that did not last long. Nintendo just doesn't have anything that interests me outside of zelda when it comes to games, and to me they're consoles are always dragging behind technologically.

That seems to be the popular knee jerk reaction, especially amongst Sony fans, but i can almost guarantee you that wont happen. Hell i will bet ANY amount of money that they will not go away the likes of the Saturn nor are they on any "brink of destruction". People were saying the SAME thing when Sony announced the PS3 would be 599. THE SAME THING. And before you try and come back with 'well all they needed was a price cut', dont, its the same thing here. MS can easily disable these DRM policies, hell theyve already set up an out clause for it.

Again, im willing to wager anything that this time next year, Microsoft will have completely abandoned their always online DRM and the price will be competitive with the other consoles. They are not going to dig their heels in and watch Sony jog away with the their business, its just not going to happen and it doesnt take a Masters degree in Business to see that.

They're going to launch with all of these restrictions and theyll watch Sony jump out to a big lead and then the changes will come, that gap will close and we will get a console gen just like the one we had where both companies are neck and neck.

People just need to wait, dont jump on the XB1 train immediately.

Yeah, I'm passing on the WiiU too. My Wii has been collecting dust for years now.

even if MS abandoned the used game/DRM policies, they'd still have that creepy Kinect mandatory attachment.

and that's the other issue Sony doesn't have with the PS4.

I dont think that would be a hurdle for people if they dropped the DRM and cut the price. You can turn the camera off.

Microsoft could change absolutely nothing and the Xbone will still be a success. They're not targeting you and me, they're targeting the people who went out in droves to buy a Kinect...

It's true, but they're greedier than most. They want us too. :woot:

This is by far the best E3 I can remember. Everyone brought a lot of stuff I want to play. The Witcher 3, Dead Rising 3, Titanfall, Metal Gear Solid 5, Kingdom Hearts 3, Planets vs. Zombies, Dark Souls 2, Megaman in Smash Bros., short haired Bayonetta, Imfamous 3 (even with the poor character design), Batlefront 3, Arkham Origins, etc. So many I am having trouble remember everything right now. And the PSN and Arcade stuff was so awesome. Too many to even name at this point.

The only real disappointments were The Order and Destiny for me, and that was only slight. Oh and the FF XV rename made be laugh so hard. Mainly because I called it with my brother a few years back. :D

Why's that? They look amazing to me.

I can get the disappointment in Destiny since it looks like yet another shooter, but what was wrong with The Order, other than the fact that we didn't see any gameplay. I just watched the Rewind Theater on IGN and it definitely has my interest. I think they said it might be third person and you play as a male/female duo so its not entirely another group co-op game, but I like the setting and if it is indeed third person and you can pick who you can play as, it definitely sounds great to me.

I am really into things like The Order, but there was something about the trailer that left me cold. Not feeling the look and just didn't seem all that original to me. Has there been gameplay?

Destiny left a bad taste in my mouth. Too many references to other FPS. Welcome to Halo Earth 1, with a bit of Borderlands and Mass Effect. I was ready for this new game, and it just feels like a mishmash of what I have already got.

Oh and I can't believe I forgot my favorite game from the show. The Witcher 3 is looking like everything I could have hoped for. :wow:

I am sure I will probably get more into it later. I just didn't hit the right note for me. I love that type of setting and I am definitely into the supernatural, but this felt a bit generic. Like hello Hugh Jackman's R-rated Van Helsing.

That's what turned me off right away. My friend was wondering what it was before they showed gameplay, and I told it it looked like something that would be a mix of the Star Wars and Mass Effect universe, but then I saw that it was a shooter, and a co-op one at that, which I feel is just flooding the market right now.

I actually really like Destiny, because I basically avoid all the other regular shooters out there. I play shooters like the old AvP games, TimeSplitters, Battlefront, Halo, Mass Effect, Borderlands. So Destiny is right up my alley.

I agree that Destiny doesn't look very original, but I'm loving the gameplay. Looks like a really fun time with friends.

The Order's trailer intrigued me, the world looks awesome and I can't wait to see more.

It got to the point that my brother and I had to force ourselves to stop pointing out all the obvious lifts from other games.

After playing Borderlands 2, I just think this can't be quite as fun.

Yes! Definitely agreed. The only "regular" shooter I enjoy is Battlefield because of the large scale.

Oh my, Battlefront 3. How could I forget about Battlefront 3? I literally squealed at the reveal. :awesome:
