E3 2014 - Part 1

I like, local multiplayer. I have always said that. But why can't I play Mario 3D World online, in addition to local multiplayer?

Works fine for Mario Kart 8, like you said.

Why is it bad to want great graphics?

It's not a matter of if Nintendo makes great games. They do. But the list of great games you can't play on it continues to grow. No GTA, Elder Scrolls, Tomb Raider, Bioshock, Final Fantasy, Fallout, Sims. Games you can play on the others along with their exclusives.

But you speak of wanting the best graphics like it's a superfluous thing. It's not. It's second to great gameplay, yes, but it's not something that should be sacrificed. Also, more power also goes into gameplay.

It's not bad, but it's also not the only guarantor of a great game. Mario Kart 8 has stunning graphics and Super Mario 3D World was no slouch either. The mindset seems to be if a console doesn't have the best graphics, then it's not worth playing or having. If I recall, the PS2 didn't have the best graphics that gen, but it sold like crazy. Gamecube had more great looking games than the PS2 or Xbox, but it didn't sell as many. Graphics do not mean greatness, so Nintendo doesn't focus on having the best graphics. They add something else to console, to add variety. Otherwise you'd have three console that played the same way, because lets face it, the controllers and gameplay on the Xbone and PS4 are not that different. Nintendo gave us Wii with motion controls and the Wii U gamepad. Variety is the spice of life.

I still don't see why that has to come at the expense of power, and as a result, selection.

Also not to nitpick, but the main reason the PS2 sold as well as it did, was because it was also a DVD player (which then made it the most popular console, and as a result, the preferred system to develop for). Nintendo's biggest mistake with the Gamecube was using those optical discs.

Still, the Gamecube ironically despite being my least favorite Nintendo system, had some of my favorite games, including two third party games.

It's true, the PS2 had more features that made it a system seller. Nintendo, I think, is very comfortable doing the Nintendo thing. They sell Nintendo games on a Nintendo console.

Which is fine, but again, why sacrifice third party support if you don't have to?

Would you buy a Wii U as is, or a Wii U, for let's say 450, that can do everything the Xbone and PS4 can do?

I.e. 8th gen multiplats, blurays, the whole shebang.

I think that's a no brainer.

Nintendo has great games but less of them is what it comes down to. Sony and MS have their own exclusives along with 3rd party support. If you're in it for games, Nintendo just isn't a viable first choice.

I'd buy a WiiU as is.. I have two other consoles that do those things.

Nintendo hasnt sacrificed third party support. The third parties choose not to release their games on the Wii U but its not like Nintendo wouldnt welcome it. They actually have a system this time that can run pretty much what the competition currently can. They just dont sell on their platform which is why many third party publishers dont even bother

This argument is a fairly tired one that is pointless, because Nintendo has proved time and time again that they are not a reaction based company. They do not compete with MS or Sony by looking at what they do and copying. They never have. Even with the GC, the power may have been on a similar level, but they still didn't have online functions and it had the mini-discs. They just work within their own bubble. It's simultaneously the best and worst thing about the company, since it can lead both to great success and great failure.

You can argue about it all you want, Nintendo should do blah, or Nintendo could do blah, but it doesn't change the fact that they will always do what they do on their own terms. It's just how it is. No amount of arguments and rhetoric on the internet will ever change that.

For me personally, it doesn't matter where they're at in the "war". I enjoy their games, and as long as they keep delivering them, I'm fine. I don't care what number is where since I'm not a stockholder. As is, I have 8 games for my Wii U, with at least that many more in sight that I plan to buy. It's already paid for itself, as far as I'm concerned.

How have they not sacrificed third party support when they have ignored the third parties, and made an underpowered system with inferior online capabilities, that can't support late 7th or 8th gen third party games?

Several companies have complained about Nintendo's lack of third party business support. Crysis 3 comes to mind, which was very nearly on the Wii U.

It has nothing to do with graphics for me. It has to do with exclusives...that's the only thing that makes me buy a certain console. It's why I own a PS4...haven't seen anything that makes me want an X Box One and i'm bored of Mario and Zelda so no Wii U for me.

For all my complaints, I will probably get a Wii U anyway, but it still needs to be said.

Not sure if I will ever get an Xbone... But you never know.

If I had to chose between Xbone and PS4, I'd go Xbox again. I liked what they showed off at E3 more. I still have a soft spot for Halo, but not a $400 soft spot

Well said.

Well, Destiny is basically Halo, and personally I have more confidence in a new Bungie IP than I do in Halo without Bungie. Halo 4 felt like fanfiction to me.

Though you can play Destiny on the Xbone as well...

Oh, who am I kidding. I just bought the Destiny bundle because I want a white PS4.

oh man, don't say that. I hate Halo :(

Actually.. It's not like Halo. All the guys that play it say it controls a lot like Halo but if you go in expecting Halo you're gonna be surprised.

And you hate Halo? Wellp, gotta update my ignore list.

:p

First why: why? Second why: Why would you be interested in Destiny if you hate Halo?

underpowered compared to what? The X1 and PS4? IA, but going into 2015, a good number of games are still being released on the PS3/360, with some only going to them. There is no reason why any of these games cant work on a Wii U bc its more powerful than those platforms. The Wii U being too underpowered for most games isnt something that will truly manifest till at least 2016 so this argument doesnt hold as much weight right now.

Diablo 3 Ultimate Evil Edition being shown on IGN (PS4 version.) I'm pretty excited for this game.

And by 2016 if Nintendo doesn't have something else in the works to show us at E3 I would be shocked. Even if it's a more powerful WiiU (PS4.X1 level) that is BC with all WiiU games.

Maybe not.. Probably not.. I just wouldn't be shocked.

You need to talk to some people in the gaming industry then.

The Wii U's limited online capabilities and HDD make games like Destiny impossible. Same with GTA V apparently.

Even games the Wii U could theoretically handle (Cyrsis 3), many third party companies have found Nintendo too difficult to work with.

Watch Dogs is going to be one of the last big multiplat the Wii U will be getting. A game btw, everyone already has.
