E3 2016

Loved everything Sony showed...except literally none of them will be here til 2018+. Last Guardian their only fall exclusive while MS has Recore, Gears 4, Forza Horizon 3 and Dead Rising 4. I'm just over premature teases so Microsoft won for me and Scorpio has me holding off on buying a gaming PC.

thats not true. Horizon and RE7 are dated for early 2017. Spider-Man will likley come next year and possibly Beyond, Days Gone and God of War. All 3 of those are games from devs that have not put out a game in years and likely are closer to the end of the production cycle

Sony has won e3 and right now suprisingly for me Ubisoft is in second place.

Horizon comes out Winter 2017...

Yes, Horizon will be early 2017 which is good. But there's nothing likely when it comes to Sony. Wild was shown 2 years ago and has dropped off the planet. Sony games debuted at E3 likely have years of production left.

I just realized Sony had virtually little to no indie presence here

Persona 5.

I fell asleep hours ago and missed the whole thing. :csad:

What were the best things in Sony's show? Any hardware mention?

No hardware mention. Zombie game called Days Gone. Spider-Man exclusive. First person Resident Evil with VR support.

Opening with an orchestra and God of War
Remaster Crash 1-3
Kojima's new game
Playstation VR has released date
The Last Guardian has an release date
Resident EVIL
Spider-Man by Insomniac

Basically everything!!

EA: C-

Thoughts:

  • EA had very little to show.
  • They did more of the "behind the scenes" stuff that doesn't make any sense at all for E3.
  • Sports. I've been saying it for years, but EA needs to have a separate event for sports games because the current arrangement doesn't serve anyone. Sports games fans aren't getting the level of detail they want, and for non-sports games fans that stuff is just a conference killer every time.
  • Titanfall 2 looks like a ton of fun.
  • As does Battlefield 1
Bethesda: C+

Thoughts:

  • Opening with Quake Champions was a really nice and unexpected surprise.
  • I don't think I care about Fallout as much as everyone else.
  • I thought the Dark Brotherhood expansion for TESO looked kind of cringey and bad. Then again, I never thought that questline in TESIV was as great as everyone else.
  • I was really excited for Prey at first because it looked the Groundhog Day game I've always wanted. I was slightly disappointed when they abandoned that idea in the trailer and revealed it to be some kind of sci-fi psychological horror action game. Still think it looks cool though.
  • I was disappointed with the Skyrim remaster. Parts of it look good, but it seems to have some kind of piss filter overlay.
  • Dishonored 2 looks neat, but I don't think I want to play it.
Ubisoft: D

Thoughts:

  • The press conference was just way too long. They tried to make an hour press conference into a two hour one by making each game's segment go on way too long. Even just getting rid of the dumb sit down interview elements could have shaved half an hour off that thing.
  • Kind of bad in general.
  • It wasn't a total loss though. Ghost Recon: Wildlands and For Honor still look great.
Microsoft: B+

Thoughts:

  • Superbly paced so nothing overstayed its welcome.
  • Lots of big hardware, software, and OS announcements. Even the Scorpio announcement, despite being leaked WAY ahead of time, managed to come across as big and important.
  • Just a really great well put together press conference across the board. Definitely the best one Microsoft has had in many years.
Sony: B

Thoughts:

  • The orchestra was a classy touch, but not something that needs to be done every time.
  • God of War is the first one of those I've been super interested in since the first.
  • Horizon continues to look really cool.
  • Kojima entering E3 like HHH at Wrestlemania and out-Kojimaing himself with his trailer. I love it.
  • Detroit looks neat, but so did David Cage's other games.
  • I don't care that much about Crash, but it's cool Crash fans got something.
  • I know a lot of people here were wowed by it, but Spider-Man just looked like another Spider-Man game to me.
  • VR was kind of a bummer. A lot of tech demoey stuff, not a lot of real games.
  • I have some mixed feelings about Sony. They pretty much did the exact thing I've wanted, and that is essentially just a reel of announcements, trailers and gameplay demos with minimal talking and presentation. However, by doing this I also see the drawbacks of it now. Some games just need a bit of explanation. For instance, Days Gone looks cool I guess, but it seems to lack a unique identity or hook. That's something that maybe could have been communicated better with a little bit of an intro.
  • Overall, it was really solid. I just think Microsoft's was a smidge better.

How good did Days Gone and Spidey look? (I can't get internet video tonight till I get back to work). Ah horror games are one area where VR would really add to it!

God of War! Orchestra sounds epic!!

Like all of the games Sony showed, Days Gone and Spidey looked great. however, Spidey's costume looks bleh.

Days Gone looks really good. Zombies run and swarm. A more dramatic take on the genre than Dead Rising. A got a very familiar feeling watching Days Gone, God of War and Horizon footage. Like they're all the same game with different theme's. Their 3rd person stuff all feels very same-y. Spider-Man looked visually good and there was was segment of him hopping around in-doors that was a highlight but I personally can't get hyped for it after so many bad Spidey games.

Alright thanks guys.

I and David Cage don't mix, so while Detroit looked good, it will have to review incredibly for me to play it.

That... doesn't make any sense.

Yeah, it all depends on the developers, there are some seriously talented Indie developers out there that have put out some great games, and playstation draws in quite a few of them.
