With China it destroys it by over 100M. I think the delay of the release date is going to work in TFA's favor in China. People are going to be hearing all about how gigantic it is, how good it is, and get worked up into a frothing fervor (ok, maybe I'm exaggerating a LITTLE bit). That and the publicity the Disney team is throwing in there.....

Did wonders for Ant-Man. Disney's strategy in China has been very good as of late. Makes sense that they are so bullish about the region with Shanghai Disneyland opening and everything.

I don't because by that time there will be far more female fans. Right now, the percentage of females watching E-VII is only at 30%.

I never understand how they figure out these things. It always seems more like guesswork than anything.

If star wars can't beat avatar, I can't imagine a movie ever beating avatar after that. I just want something to dethrone that overrated movie.

This film is already getting a lot of repeat viewers. I think before the weekend, it's gonna be halfway to a billion.

If any movie can do it, it's Star Wars.

But it's likely going to have to be this one. With news of a new film a year forever, there won't be the thirst this one had.

If this film doesn't do it, then it will take another movie to come out of nowhere like Avatar and Titanic, to do it.

How is it overrated when everyone on the internet hates it? As someone who didn't realy like it in 2009, i'm starting to find it very underrated, as a story i was good and as an experience it was amazing.

It was overrated when it first came out. The hate slowly began years after

Avatar was a ground breaking film. It was made to be seen in the very best 3D environment. Never before or after have we seen 3D look that way. The story was a rehash from others, but so too is A Force Awakens.

Avatar needs more respect for it's groundbreaking visual effects that hasn't even come close to being matched 6 years later.

Quite wrong. It was just as hated when it came out. The Internet had a bone to pick with it from the beginning.

Don't be comical. Inflation insures Avatar will inevitably be dethroned.

I liked Avatar and saw it twice at the old IMAX at the Howard Hughes Center (before it was displaced by the cinemark XD). I would call it the second best 3D filming I've seen. The crown, IMO (as well as in Cameron's), goes to Scorcese's "Hugo". If you've never seen it in 3D (Yeah.....I'm talking to you, you haters. :cwink: ), you missed an unbelievably beautifully filmed movie. Nolan also did some fantastic work in TDK. Some of the scenes (again, I saw it in IMAX) were absolutely breathtaking.

This opening record is going to last a looooong time. Not even episode VIII will match it.

Dude... you responded to my comment. I feel honored.

The internet has nothing but a bone to pick when it comes to most films not made by some company Disney owns. Also James Cameron is easy to hate.

Agreed. Technically a huge feat and blockbusters since haven't taken up the mantle for some reason. Story standard rather than particularly good though.

Domestic actuals:

Star Wars: The Force Awakens $247,966,675 -- 4,134 -- $59,982 $247,966,675 1 Disney

Worldwide Gross: $526,966,675

Yeah, the Avatar DOM is pretty much gone.

But nothing is touching the Avatar WW record. Avatar fans can take consolation in that.
