I just realized something. TFA beat FFINO's DOM cumulative total.

Last Thursday.

And TFA (DOM) beat FFINO's WW cumulative total.

Last Saturday (By about 20M).

That didn't take long.......

That's not right.

It beat it in two hours

:woot:

Hopefully this gets the 2nd weekend record by a huge distance. Only Jurassic World and the first Avengers have numbers above $100m. After that there is a big drop to the chasing pack (AoU next highest at $77.7m)

@BoxOffice STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS took in an estimated $40.1M on Monday and has grossed $288.1M in 4 days domestically. #TheForceAwakens*

STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS has set new all-time records for largest Monday gross and largest four-day domestic start. #TheForceAwakens*
Bloody hell. That's 45% higher than the previous highest Monday!

Word of mouth is a powerful thing. Even my mom liked it and she usually falls asleep during these types of movies. No really, that's a big deal. She said that its what everyone is talking about at her job.

It's what everyone everywhere is talking about. You can't turn on the TV without seeing some Star Wars reference of take off on it. NFL, car commercials, news show, whatever.

Next thing you know, they'll be selling Skywalker Jedi basketball shoes......uh oh....I think Disney just made another half billion dollars......

Everyone really does mean everyone. Even in Washington:

I definitely think it'll be better than a 50% hold. A 60% hold (which isn't impossible) would translate to about $150M. That would be about $45M more than JW. I'd take that distance in my bank account.

The huge 2nd weekend presales and falling on Xmas make me think this will hold much better than other big blockbusters.

Yeah. Me too. I think 50% is fairly standard for something that's well received (TA and JW for example).

And don't forget the very good word of mouth and reviews.

Yeah, I thought it would be huge, but this is going beyond anything I projected in my head.

Yup. This is why I decline to make any predictions right now. The numbers are just insane. But it's fun to watch.

IMAX screenings for this coming weekend are already sold out for the most popular times 4:00 and 7:00pm.

This thing is nuts.

There is no telling what it's second weekend will be. Over 100mil is 100% assured, how much more than that remains to be seen.

This is going to be like an opening weekend for a regular mega-blockbuster haha.

Yeah I want this to beat the hell out of Jurassic World, because I think Universal fudged their numbers to get both records. The estimates for both weekends for JW was below the record.

No Universal did not fudge their numbers, estimates are not the final numbers. Love or hate it Jurassic World broke the opening weekend record and was a massive smash hit. Some Marvel fans seriously need to get over the fact that Jurassic World out grossed both Avengers movies opening weekend and in total.

Wow, you couldn't be more obviously jealous of what JW did. :funny:

I know estimates are not the final number, and I know Universal wouldn't want to claim the record and then not get it. However beating both weekends by a million is about as razor thin as you can get. There's no way to prove it, but it sure is my suspicion.

That's not to take away that record or not JW had a fantastic weekend, but it's just a pretty run of the mill film.

Having said that, there's no doubt that this film kicked the hell out of the OW record and is the much more deserving film of holding the record. No one will care about JW in 10 years, whereas this film...

I don't even know how you'd go about fudging the numbers, when the official totals don't even come from the studio. At least I don't think they do.

Marvel fanboys thought the Avengers and now Civil War are as large as Star Wars. DC fans think BvS is as large as Star Wars. I don't see those predictions happening anymore. Things have gone quiet since the pre-sales came out.

How am I jealous? it's not my accomplishment, it's someone else's. But of the top grossing films: Avatar, Titanic, Jurassic World, Avengers, Dark Knight and now SW:TFA, the odd duck in that group is JW. It's an average film that isn't very spectacular or memorable.

OK quit the fanboy wars. Star Wars has always been in a league of it's own. I thought this film very well could be the smash hit it turned out to be, and then again, I also thought it could flop as much as the Prequels. I'm very pleased that it seems to have satisfied most of the fanbase.

Makes it fit in with Avengers then. :o

*hides*

I'd watch JW before I watched Avatar ever again. And while I am a big Avengers fan, it isn't a better film then JW imo. The only odd duck is Titanic, not because of its quality but because of its genre. It is a love story rolled into a disaster film. The others are all Sci-fi. Though if we are doing adjusted numbers, two of the top 3 right now would be Titanic and Gone with the Wind.
