Ant-Man Edgar Wright's Ant-Man

I can't see Ultron as the villain in an Ant Man film, so out of these names who is the better villain.

KLAW
Egghead
Whirlwind

Who would you want to see cameo in the film?

Why can't you see Ultron as the villain in an Ant-Man film, when Hank Pym is the one who *created* Ultron.....? And even as an Avenger villain, it's almost always Hank that Ultron focuses all his rage/daddy issues on. Ultron *is* Hank Pym's nemesis.

But I'll play along and leave Ultron out of the mix. Which brings me to the next point: don't use Wikipedia as your source for a list of potential villains for characters. There's a *lot* more to the story(stories) of Ant-Man (the Ant-Men).

For starters, everything leaked about Joe Cornish's script so far makes Scott Lang the focal Ant-Man, with Pym as a background character/mentor figure. The script portrays Cross Technologies (CTE) as the main enemy of Scott Lang, which now opens the door for a potential cameo by Hawkeye, and Crossfire as a potential "name" villain.

I have maintained all along that this has potential to be a really fun, engaging adventure flick. Sort of a pulpy two-fisted scientist feel with awesome shrinking/growth fx and a hopefully funny and exciting script. All of that is right up EW's alley.

I believe you've just described exactly what Edgar Wright and Marvel Studios are looking for.

At the end of the day, it's an Edgar Wright movie, and *all* Edgar Wright movies have a certain look and approach. I strongly doubt we can expect anything different from Ant-Man. And that's a good thing. :word:

Since Ant-Man really has no GA exposure at all, the writers can feel free to shuffle things around more. Marvel has lots of science villains and mid tier types. You can probably adapt any number of them to be movie-Pym villains. The Fixer, maybe.

Ultron shouldn't be the bad guy in a Ant Man film. Ultron should be a sub plot. Throughout the film Pym is trying to perfect him, but can't quite get it right. Then at the end he somehow gets it right, but Ultron become self aware, setting him up for Avengers.

Then in Avengers we find out that the mysterious way in which Hank got the AI working for Ultron was to use his own brain patterns. It'd be a great reveal, just like how it was in Ultron Unlimited. And that is certainly more "personal" like how Whedon was talking about before.

Modok and AIM are the best choices. AIM should be Ant-Man goon squads like Hydra to Captain America.
Thats what i've been saying.

Have A.I.M as the villains. A scientific threat to a scientist superhero plus its easy to explain to audiences they are an off shoot of Hydra from Captain America: The First Avenger.

A.I.M breaks into Pyms lab at Van Dyne Industries trying to steal the formula for the Pym particles. They are foiled by Hank Pym but manage to kill Vernon Van Dyne Pyms mentor and Pyms wife Maria in the process of trying to steal it.

Pym and Janet swear revenge on A.I.M and become superheroes to bring down the organisation.

Movie can be Hank and Janet breaking into A.I.M base destroying whatever super science world domination MacGuffin Edgar and Joe pick from the the comics (there are plenty of them).

Movie can end with Fury or Maria Hill showing up asking them to join the Avengers or reserve Avengers.

It's also easy to explain MODOK's huge head if he's been messing with Pym particles without being Pym. Then he's just one life support harness away from being the MODOK we all know and love.

I agree that they should do something like this. Ultron would be wasted as a villain in a solo Ant-Man movie.

Personally, I would say just to use Egghead, with maybe someone like Whirlwind as a henchman.

I could see AIM as a good choice for the villain, and even MODOK might be right up EW's alley for comic effect....but I'd hope they'd make MODOK fairly creepy instead of the "OMGWTFLOL" over the top redonkulousness that he really is. Not sure I'd want to see Pym particles responsible for his head growth, though --- too many bad memories of Hector Hammond in the GL disaster. One thing I've always said about Advanced Idea Mechanics is that it's a great name for a software/tech company....rather than making them some pseudo-terrorist organization, I'd rather see AIM be an above-board tech firm whose CEO and/or board of directors have some sinister secrets and ties to criminal organizations.

If Ant-Man is indeed greenlit and AIM features as the main villains, maybe Marvel could set them up in Captain America 2 with a flashback to Cap fighting Baron Strucker. Perhaps in the MCU, Strucker was working with/for Red Skull and split his division of HYDRA off when he saw the writing on the wall, which eventually became AIM.

I'd rather see a modern HYDRA be simply a resurrection of the group by Strucker or Zemo or Viper. Neo-Nazis, so to speak. Then have them *literally* resurrect (or summon, or whatever) Red Skull as their idol.

Thousands of fans around the world have just had their dream crushed.

Nothing i hate more than Ant-Man bashing

:( Aquaman is so cool, but yeah I get what your saying
I take that to mean they would both make great movies and are great comic characters but no one can really see it.
Ant Man, to me, would make a much better character for the Avengers than a solo film. But I have faith that (especially now that the Avengers is such a smash) an Ant Man movie will be great. They wouldn't let it be other than that now.
But Also Wright is a great director.
Hank Pym to me is a more interesting character than just his powers. He has major mental problems and an actual mental illness. The spy angle mentioned, if they are still doing it, is probably taking the place of being an adventurer. In the old days superheroes weren't superheroes they were adventurers like the FF and Spider-Man.
I'd personally rather see a Namor on the big screen than an Aquaman but I like him too, like Pym he is a great character and with the direction they are using in the comics now I can see them using that in the movies. Him being no ones favorite superhero.
Maybe that is what they could do with Ant Man, once he is on the Avengers. And that adds to his already great self doubt.

Somebody on the other thread said Adam Scott, and after looking at him on Parks and Rec, I have to comply.

Finally we can put the Fillion as Ant-Man stuff to rest. Or maybe it'll be like whenever an Ant-Man cameo is denied and people will say "but Nathan Fillion said nothing about not playing HANK PYM!"

So...if they use A.I.M. New look or classic yellow with big headpieces?

Wish I could say that's true, but there will be posters who will say he just needs to read up on the characters, that Whedon can convince him to do the role, that Fillion was lying, etc. All sorts of ridiculous comments. :csad:
