Ant-Man Edgar Wright's Ant-Man

If we were to pick someone from Firefly, or ANY Whedon show to play Antman, I actually think Alan Tudyk is the way to go.

I want Alison Brie for Wasp. She'd be in there, right?

I like Patrick Wilson as Hank Pym & Carla Gugino as Janet Van Dyne.

So...if they use A.I.M. New look or classic yellow with big headpieces?

Just give 'em standard issue biohazard suits without the flower-pot helmets.

As far as fancasting for the movie, here's something to consider:

...what if Ant-Man is British?

Yeah, yeah, yeah, it's not canon. So what? How much in the MCU *is* canon so far....? Not very much. I don't think the whole concept would go to hell in a handbasket if you made a British superhero(es), and it'd provide a little geographic variety in the MCU instead of the "All New-Yorker Squad" of the comic books.

I could see Edgar Wright calling up one of his old buds for this. Not necessarily Simon Pegg, and certainly not Nick Frost; but what about Rafe Spall....?

Alison Brie or Zoeey Deschanel for a younger Jan. If they try to go somewhat older I kinda wanna see Winona Ryder in the role

AIM's signature look is the bee keeper helmets, so if you take them away they would be just any generic nameless cannon fodder.

I still want Autumn Reeser for Wasp. She's my number 1 choice.

 I completely forgot about her. I'd actually like her for that role. She'd be great. I'd put her as my top choice

Well, since Fillion is officially out Patrick Wilson is my #1. I do like Jason Bateman as an alt.

Not sure about Wasp.

I could go for Simon Pegg as Scott Lang, for no good reason other than he works well with Wright.

I think Pym and Wasp should be younger than the rest of the cast. It would be interesting to see Pym in his late 20's early 30's working with Stark and Banners who he can look at as heroes, for their minds not their alter-egos.
Mark Webber for Pym
Mary Elizabeth Winstead for Wasp

Wasp should definitely be the "young girl" on the team with tons of enthusiasm. It would bring a different dynamic. She doesn't necessarily have to be younger than Scarlett though, just younger in attitude. I say that because I'm pretty sure Autumn Reeser is older than Scarlett, but she generally acts like a young, star-struck girl. I wouldn't mind if she played Janet like she played the role of Katie in No Ordinary Family as a kind of star-struck fan girl (in attitude) who thinks it's so cool to get to hang with these superheroes despite being a wealthy heiress and fashion designer.

Someone on the Avengers forum mentioned that the Wasp could easily be Ultimate inspired in the movieverse and be Asian. I quite like the idea. I daresay Wright knows a certain someone who would be awesome for that sort of role...

I actually like that, it would be great for Eric Christian Olsen to break through into the spot light, and if they do bring him into an avengers film he'd be able keep up with RDJ and the rest of the crew in terms of improv (a lot of the better parts of Fired Up were improv'd by olsen, if the out takes are any indication).

Just some rumours so take it with a pinch of salt

According to Bleeding Cool, there has recently been a lot of activity in some of London's comic book stores in regards to people hunting down old Ant-Man issues. 'So what?' you ask? Well, it just so happens that these particular stores (Forbidden Planet, Gosh and Orbital) are surrounded both by major movie studio offices and production companies who work on special effects. Judging from the excerpt below, it appears as if these guys are hunting down some research material.

Over the last three weeks, I hear that four separate people have been into Gosh Comics looking for Ant Man comics. Lots of Ant Man comics, in any condition.

Here’s the thing. No one asks for Ant Man comics. Not even, I’m told, when Marvel was still publishing Ant Man comics. Each time the individuals have been asked if it’s for the Edgar Wright and Joe Cornish film and they jump back, spooked, asking how they could possibly know...

Today, the fourth individual had a specific request, wanting reference for Ant Man‘s "echo time locator" from "the old series".
The past has shown that the site has a good relationship with stores such as these, so there's really no reason to doubt the authenticity of their claims. It could of course be a coincidence, but what with Edgar Wright being a British director and the fact that a big chunk of Captain America: The First Avenger, X-Men First Class and Thor 2 being filmed in the UK, there's no reason to doubt that a great deal of Ant-Man's production could take place in the country as well.

I've been into all 3 stores before. It's not easy to find any Ant-Man comics, and I don't imagine any of the 3 are in abundant supply, or if they are, then they would probably be the collectors editions which are in mint condition. I'm sure there are a few in poor condition though, but sometimes they're stacked in with many other comics so it would be time consuming for someone to have to actually sift through all of that. You could spend a good few hours in that task.

I have no idea what the echo time locator is though.

I've been in all 3 of those comic stores too.

Finding old Ant-Man comics in general would be difficult I image unless like you said its in a mint-collocters edition or one of those 25p tatty comic boxes.

I'm not sure how much old solo Ant-Man stuff has been reprinted or trade released by Marvel over the years.

So *here's* where that Ant-Man thread has been hiding....for some reason, I couldn't find it today, even under Search.....???

I posted this info earlier on the "Black Panther or Ant-Man" thread....in any event, it sounds encouraging; I seriously doubt this is a random coincidence of several Ant-Man "fans" crawling out of the woodwork at the same time.

Maybe I'll go into all 3 stores now, ask for those comics and make some random Ant-Man comments and see if it leads back here as film rumours or supposedly solid news. :oldrazz:

I had a sort of conspiracy theory pop into my head...hear me out before you roll your eyes.

In 2005-2006, Avi Arad launched the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He cashed out shortly after, and Feige took the reigns. The first two MCU films still bare Arad's name as a producer.

What if Edgar Wright's Ant-Man was a project that Arad launched/ believed in, but Feige has no interest in? It's worth noting that no less than 6 marvel movies have butted Ant-Man in line, and that there's never any concrete news.

Feige is known for being a little more keen to the audience than Arad, and a bit more discerning. Perhaps Feige is aware of the stigma a character who's primary power shrinking would carry? Maybe he's worried about really committing to the project? Maybe Wright's contract is iron clad (as so many Arad contracts were; see the Fox X-Men contract) and the only thing Feige can do is stall and delay until Wright loses interest?

Just some food for thought.
