Elfman is Working on the Music

I thought the clock tower/train sequence theme was excellent and was thinking elfman did a great job turns out young wrote the theme for that, LOL!:woot:

Young did not score the clock tower sequence, Elfman wrote that piece. (If you want to get really technical, it's also on the score album of SM-2.)

Young's piece doesn't come in until Spidey and Doc Ock land on the train, and even then there's a brief pause between music cues.

Exactly. There's still a lot of Elfman in the train sequence.

EDIT:
In fact, go watch the movie and pay attention to the end credits. It is clearly stated that the train sequence was written by both Young AND Elfman. Or in other words, Young just added some repetitve notes to what Elfman had already composed.

Could be, but I also think that Raimi told Young to keep Elfman's elements intact, while adding his own touch to the train sequence.

I think Young should be in charge of Venoms theme for sure. Not sure how I feel about the rest of the movie

Oh, and Ghost Rider's score is pretty sweet. I nice mixture of southern cowboy music with your usual bombastic superhero movie score music. Young did a nice job, which gives me hope

Yeah, he did a good job. Young isn't a bad composer. Its just that Elfman is better. Its like...John Ottman did a good job with Superman Returns but John Williams is just better.

About as good a comparison as you can find, Catman.

I want to see John Williams, Zimmer, Newton-Howard, Elfman, Young, James Horner and Alan Silvestri have a massive battle royal. Throw Nubuo Uematsu in the mix, and that's something I'll pay a lot, A LOT of money to see :hellboy:

In my opinion I don't think it would be right for young to score the whole film because then it wouldn't be fair to elfman. I mean elfman should have the same amount choice for the music as young will though I think elfman should be more in charge.

I would love to have elfman do the main title theme, the "fate" theme and the goblin theme for that matter because he has the best skills to do that kind of music more than young does in my opinion.

Don't get me wrong, I completely agree. But as Catman said, if Elfman isn't there, Shirley Walker can't do it, so Christopher Young is a good choice. A good choice because with the exception of the 3 themes they're keeping, Young will right music that fits the movie well or Raimi won't put up with it, you know that as well as the rest of us.

I'd rather have Christopher Young doing it that John Powell, just for the record:word:

if young has a history of horror then let young do the venom sequences as yu want to invoke terror when you see him and that can be enhanced ith musical cues.

but then again elfman wrote darkman and the music on that is top class and scary.

I know, but I think Young just incorporated Elfman's theme into the runaway train sequence, hence the "written by Young and Elfman". I didn't notice any of Elfman's rejected cue for the train sequence -- well, maybe at the end where Spidey saves the train and passengers pick him up and put him on the floor.

exactly, my second choice for the spidey music is young because he is good as well. I don't think young is bad I just think elfman can pull off things that young can't though young should defenitley do the music f elfman isn't involved because that would be the right thing to do.

Yeah, and Elfman has been pulling off the same THINGS for damn-near two decades. The less they use of his music the better for these ears. But I'm happy he doesn't get to turn Sandman, Venom and the symbiote's theme music into a day at the circus.

Granted I don't want circus clown music playing when Venom appears on the screen, I think the rest of the score should be based heavily on Elfman's first two movies, and you know that Raimi is going to tell Young to do it that way.

circus music? that is so not true. I mean elfman has really intense music that fits perfectly for spidey and the villins in the past two films. I want elfman to do the villian themes in spidey3 because I know he would pull it off perfectley. in fact elfman is the best composer to me atleast, now elfman should be involved with spidey3 considering how great his music was in the past two films.

My biggest concern was the theme music for Sandman, Venom and the symbiote--which means Young will not reuse any of Elfman's music for these characters and the symbiote. Thank goodness they're out of Elfman's hands. Plus, Young mentioned he's doing other NEW music too. I know that there must be continuity music, I know how franchise films work. I happen to like the Peter Parker music by Elfman, hate the Green Goblin theme and main theme. I can't win them all. :o

*The Peter Parker music
*Aunt May music
*MJ/Peter love music

These are the three cuts I like from Elfman, everything else, not so much.

Both will have their music in SM3, but Young is doing Sandman and Symbiote/Venom's theme, not Elfman.

I respect your ability to not cave in under the pressure these guys exert.

Remember a couple months ago when there was "serious" talk about having Venom's theme be Spidey's theme played backwards?:whatever:

I see, well as long as elfman does the main title theme, the "fate" theme, and the goblin theme I'm happy because those themes are in the movie alot and they are grst to me. I just hope young does sandan and venoms music good, I have alot of faith because I know youn is not that bad of a composer so I'm preety sure he will do good.

Haha...Spidey's theme played backwards...that would never work. :D

BTW, there has to be new music for the Construction Site Battle Royale, eh?

I knew it was too good to be true that Elfman was involved. Oh well. Young better not screw up because this would've been the perfect Elfman score. Its dark and he had a lot of themes to with in this one unlike Spidey 2. Now Young is gonna steal the glory. He already has ghost rider. Which I don't give a hoot about. Raimi should've been a man and apologized to Elfman and dumped Young. I'll give him a chance but I think he's going to blow it. I'm a score fan so I know what I'm talking about. None of his music appeals to me. I only got the (so-so)FlyII score because it came with the (BRILLIANT) fly score by Shore. I agree with some of you that said Elfman's Train/Appreciation was better than Youngs decent Runaway Train. I remember when I first saw Spidey 2 I remember the music being way over-the-top and out of place. When I heard Elfman's version on the CD I was thinking to myself after it was over why didn't backstabber (Raimi) and Sony keep this. There were some cues on the CD that they didn't use that was better than what was used in the movie. The Demonstration music that Young wrote was terrible and it over -shadow the scene and took me out of it. He used the freakin Hellraiser cue off Hellbound Hellraiser 2 that's how off it was. By the way I definitely don't plan on getting that OVERRATED score. I only knew the theme from the crappy movie. I remember thinking when I saw that scene in the theatre "Elfman what are you doing" and it was Young all along. I haven't heard Elfman's version of that scene but I know it was probably more fitting than that NOISE Young put out there. They should do another CD release for Spidey 2 of all of Elfman's cues. I doubt it'll ever happen though.I'll dream about it like I've been doing since the summer of 2004. Debney's over-the-top cue "Special Delivery" the less said the better. I remember that scene took me out of the movie when I first saw it. I was thinking again Elfman what are you doing. It was a distraction. That's what I think Young's music is gonna be in the third movie a distraction. Elfman is not writing music for Sweeney Todd. The Kingdom is pushed to September. He finished Meet The Robinson's back in November last year. Nothing for him to do right now but Spidey 3. This was the perfect time to call Elfman and fire Young.Misopputunity. Oh well now I got to deal with Young. Who I think is going to be one of the lowpoints of this movie along with some other things I'm disliking about this movie. I'm just hoping he doesn't blow it like he probably did with the pathetic ghost rider movie. Anyways,I'm done with my little rant. You got anything to say. Like I know Visionary will. Feel free to let out your ang--,I mean opinion.

well I feel that young will do a good job but won't do as good as elfman would have. sure young has good music but he won't match what elfman did with the music in the first two films. I'm also glad elfman is back for this film but I just wish he would have done sandman and venoms theme. well it's a good thing that elfman will probably be doing the main title theme and the "fate", and the goblin theme because those I like alot. now I'm very excited to hear sandma and venoms theme so I just hope young will do his best and doesn't disssapoint us fans.

You know I will.

That's funny, because I thought damn-near the entire original Spider-Man score was out of place. To the point where I didn't know whether I was watching Beetle-Juice or Batman, both actually, being they sound the same. A so-so score would be Elfman's work on Spider-Man, that usually never enhance a scene, but makes you wonder was the composer blind, and just didn't see what was being shown on the screen.

Danny Elfman's train sequence was horrible, it's no wonder it didn't make the final cut, it was just more regurgitated Elfman music, as usual, that's all over the place and not focused on what's on the screen. And it was Sam Raimi's idea to put the Hell Raiser's cue in there, not Young's.

And even when Elfman was scoring the Hulk, can you imagine a director telling you, "I don't want to hear YOUR STYLE of music." As to say, it isn't good enough and I'm damn angry that the studio chose you as the composer. Why, because Ang Lee knew he going to get the same regurgitated sh:t that Elfman always delivers.

Debney's over-the-top cue "Special Delivery" the less said the better.

Why? :csad: I liked it. :yay:

Elfman is not writing music for Sweeney Todd.

I wouldn't be surprised if Burton asks him to contribute one or two scores. Kinda how Elfman was asked to do some stuff for Chicago.

The Kingdom is pushed to September. He finished Meet The Robinson's back in November last year. Nothing for him to do right now but Spidey 3. This was the perfect time to call Elfman and fire Young. Misopputunity.

Yeah.
