Elfman is Working on the Music

Awesome! Now if we could only get Alex Ross back to do the opening artwork like in Spidey 2

I hope ross is let nowhere NEAR spidey 3 after the way he bad mouthed spidey 2 in wizard. if that's how you feel ross then stay the hell away from the third movie.

as for elfman I liked the theme for spidey's end sequence swing in S-M1 and I like the theme in spidey's and doc ocks fight in S-M2 but I wish his main spider-man theme wasn't so 'batman'.

you hear superman's theme and it makes the hairs on the back of your neck stand up I don't get that with spidey's theme.

WTF?? It's clearly really old than Elfman doesn't work on Spiderman 3. I'm surprise to see that you didn't know. :wow:

I hate to rain on everyone's party, but to the contrary, a recent interview with Christopher Young doesn't indicate Elfman is working on Spider-Man 3 at all, which means Curtis either lied or was misinformed. In the interview (he is being interviewed about both Ghost Rider and Spider-Man 3), he says that he is keeping three of Elfman's themes: 1) the heroic Spider-Man theme, 2) the Green Goblin theme to represent Harry Osbourne taking over his father's role and 3) the "fate" theme that was in the second movie. Everything else, including Sandman, Venom, the black symbiote, etc. will have new themes composed by Young.

Read the interview here. It was posted two days ago, so it's pretty recent. The mods can lock this up now, because it's clear Elfman isn't co-composing or doing new themes for the third film.

What? thats terrible:(

What does he mean by the fate theme, and the heroic theme?

Is the heroic theme the one thats played at the end of the movies?

What about the main titles theme? or the theme thats often played when peters with m.j or aunt may?

If these themes are dropped, then i consider this a huge blow. you can say its not a big deal and flame me for it, but its a big deal to me. Lets kill continuity.

EDIT

The fate theme, spider-mans heroic theme, and the goblin theme are perhaps the most important themes, but im still confused as to whether the heroic theme is the theme played in the main titles or at the end as spidey swings away.

Can anyone help?:( i really dont want to lose the main titles music or the music played at the end.

The fate theme I think is the music in SM-2 is when Peter reconsiders his decision to become Spider-Man and the dramatic moment when he throws his suit away.

The heroic theme is the main titles theme. I don't think you'll have to worry about the music used for the final flying sequences being missing, because that in itself is a variation on the main theme. But I will miss the romantic/family theme from SM and SM-2... a fine Elfman theme, if anything.

The Superman theme sounds more like Star Wars than the Spider-Man theme does Batman. Spider-Man sounds absolutely nothing like Batman.

Thats the theme ill miss the most.

Christopher young is very Elfman like in most of his compositions, and because of the similarities in their music i expected him to realise that instead of trying to replace elfmans music, he would just reuse, revamp it, and add new themes that needed writing. I did not expect him to replace themes.

the family romantic theme should not be replaced, thats a mistake. i love that theme.

Noooooo! :down
j/k

I'm disappointed, but at least he's keeping in more themes than I would have suspected so that's probably why Grant Curtis said both would be working on the music. And I agree with mclay18 and Secret Riddle that the romantic/family shouldn't be thrown out, it's partly what dramatized the Spider-Man movies. I really hope Young replaces it with a theme that's at least half as good.

I want peters theme back but if elfman isn't coming back then we aren't getting it which is not good:csad:. atleast we have the really important themes back though because those are really cool!. I don't understand why elfman couldn't come back but lets just hope christopher young will do the main titles and the fate and the goblin theme very well.

Your in luck. The fate theme is Peters theme from spider-man 2.
To hear it listen to the track: The Mugging/ Peters turmoil from the sm2 score.

Chris young might not dispose of the family theme though, i mean its not like a huge theme, Young might have just been referring to major themes. The family theme is mostly used simply for background effect and usually doesnt apply to a certain character so I guess Young might use it, even though it wasnt mentioned.

Im gona upload all the themes hes keeping, so that people who dont know what music is implied by "fate" for example can hear.

Give me 20 min or so.

yay!, thanks for uploading the songs though I do have the spidey1 soundtrack, the spidey2 soundtrack, and the spidey2 motion picture score. the "fate" them is great because if gives a great feeling and emotion of what peter parkers going through.

MAIN TITLES: (HEROIC THEME) also, the theme played at the end of the movies is a modified version of this theme so expect to hear that in SM3 as well.

THE GOBLIN RETURNS: (green goblin theme)

thanks, not only do I have the motion picture score of spidey2 with these songs on it but now I can listen to them on my computer as well. now christopher young I know is a good composer but I don't think he has as much talent as elfman but I think he can still do the music well if he tries so I know I won't be dissapoinyted now that these songs are in the film.

Sometimes you have to read in-between the lines. If they're keeping three Elfman themes then that means that Elfman's music is gonna be a much bigger part of the movie than we expected. I wouldn't be surprised if Raimi asked Elfman to come in to perhaps do some re-arrangements of those three themes. Its possible.

BEST. NEWS. EVER!

New music for "Sandman" and "Venom" and the freakin' "Symbiote" (non-Danny Elfman) scored by Christopher Young, best news I could ever hear. You didn't rain on my parade, you've created a massive celebration within me. I just tinkled on myself...ooops...and yet again. For I am pleased. :woot:

I love Elfman's music ALOT, but a couple of songs / cues from Young I liked alot in '2' too.

As long as I get the main theme in the opening credits, hopefully tweaked a little bit, I'll be happy. I was entranced when I saw the opening credits of Spidey 1 for the first time in the theater, largely due to Elfman's music.

I just hope they don't keep the Spidey-2 main theme, which had elements of doc ock's theme in there, not because I didn't like it, but hopefully some of the new themes will be mixed in if possible. I dunno if that's possible, mixing in Young's new villian themes into the old main theme. Otherwise just use Spidey 1's main theme IMO.

The main titles will probably lose the ock touch and gain the sandman touch...maybe even a goblin touch....dare i say venom touch?

i don't know how to explain it, but it shouldnt be too hard for Young to squeeze like 15-20 seconds of a villain's theme in where Elfman started Doc Ock's theme. It's like an alloted space for a villain's theme.

The main titles will probably lose the ock touch and gain the sandman touch...maybe even a goblin touch....dare i say venom touch?
maybe but I think young will go with the plain main tilte spidey theme (I love the main title theme). sure he can go with the main title theme but add a villian touch in it, I think it would most likley be venoms theme that is combined with the main titles theme because this film is about how peter fights the darkness within. sandmans theme would work to but I think young will just add in a touch of venoms theme probably in the middle of spideyes main title theme.

Incorrect, the last news we heard before this was that they were both working on the picture. We found out from a question in producer Grant Curtis' December blog.

Hi Grant, thanks for paying attention to us, your blog is a great idea. i had questions about the music, but i didn't know where to ask them, so i do there. Will Christopher Young use the main theme created by Danny Elfman at the beginning of the first two movies? Or will he compose a new one? Has the work on music started? Thanks, hope you'll answer me

Tim, Danny and Chris Young are both working on the picture. We have yet to start actively working on the music, but we will start soon. Thanks for the questions. Grant

Visionary, you've reached the point where I know what you're gonna post before you actually post.

When I said, read between the lines, thats one of the things I meant. Raimi already stated he wanted Elfman somehow. And, Curtis stated that Elfman was working with Young. PERHAPS Elfman has been brought in to re-arrange the three themes of his that will be on the film.

Maybe, i was just saying that the main title theme for the first and second movie have been the same except for villian theme inserts, chris young said that hes writing all the new themes, so the main titles will be the same excpet instead of a doc ock cue it will be a sandman cue or a venom cue.

See what i mean?

^ what if there is no villian cue at all? I mean it's not like there won't be but I'm saying elfman or young might want to keep the main title theme from spidey1. though spidey2's main title theme with Doc Ock's cue is at the spider-man3 official movie website so does that mean that there will be the main title theme from spidey2 in spidey3?

I see what you're saying. But...knowing Raimi, he probably feels bad about what happened last time. So, he wants Elfman to work with Young on the main titles. Like that the music is ATLEAST Elfman approved.
