Elfman is Working on the Music

Raimi should have given Elfman more control over the Spidey 2 music. But i mean if elfman was trying to change a lot of stuff then Raimi was right to step in, it can be a continuity killer to change a lot of themes, but we dont really know to what extent elfman tried to change the music, Raimi might have just been being a perfectionist.

Raimi should make it up to Elfman though by at least giving him the option to mess with whatever young writes :).

exactly, elfman can change anything young writes if he wants. say if young changes the main theme a little bit, if elfman doesn't like i then he could step in and change it. and besides, the main title theme shouldn't be completley changed so it is right to put elfman in charge of the music and make suggestions to young, etc. if elfman isn't satisfied with what young wrote then elfman can change a few things around a bit.

Listen to the Batman Returns music. Elfman made changes to the main title theme but the Batman march is still there.
 
Yah batman returns was a similar situation to spider-man 2, except burton gave elfman full control, i dont really know what to think, spider-man 2 had a great score, and its looking like spider-man 3's score will be similar too, hopefully elfman does play some part though.
 
Hopefully, Elfman plays no part. Let the man do something else with his time besides spending it on comic book movies.

I'm hoping the same. elfman was such great composer. I mean if elfman needs full control then he should have it. hell it would make for great music. now I am not saying youg shouldn't be involved but I'm saying elfman should be able to make the desicsions. young has done a great job on the spidey3 score from what we have heard from the beginning of the theatrical trailer but I just hope elfman did help out with the score, it sure sounds like it.

The fact that the composer said that he will be incorporating the 3 major themes that the first 2 focused on was the tell all sign.

As for the new themes, chris young is a very similar composer to elfman.

The 1st mistake Raimi made was getting Elfman in on these movies in the 1st place. Can anyone spell cliche? :whatever: Secondly, Raimi should stick to what he knows and not what he thinks he knows. Lat time I checked, Raimi wasn't a skilled composer. I'm pretty sure whatever Elfman wanted to do would have been better than what we got but whatever......:o
 
I want Elfman to have as little control as possible
His music for the spider-man movies have been real bad

Elfman is better then young, but sometimes for example (i hate to use this example) but chris young scored the grudge 2, the main titles to that movie are very elfmaesque. Obviously hes not as good but hes more similar to elfman then say john williams, or hans zimmer.

As for the train sequences, elfmans original music was awesom, but i liked chris young's as well. I thought it was elfman until i found out a yearish ago that young did it.

I hear a difference between the two. elfman is better than young, elfmans music is more intense and it pulls you into the action which is something I don't think young is good at. I'm not saying young isn't good because he is but elfmans music has more action and adrenaline raising type music. young's music is more slow, etc. though it is good.
 
Elfman's music pulls me out of the film. I immediately think of the circus upon hearing his work. And flashes of his previous work from almost 2 decades ago come flashing by.

Believe it or not, the closest thing to Elfman WAS Shirley Walker. Unforunately she is no longer with us. The composer who's like Elfman now is John Ottman. Why? Cause he rips-off Elfman all the time. Example:

In Superman Returns when we see the robber take out that machine gun to shoot the cops a few second of music (or perhaps even a minute) was ripped off from Elfman's Planet of the Apes theme. Then, there was that Hide & Seek movie with Robert De Niro and Dakota Fanning. Ottman ripped off Elfman left and right with his score. In fact, when I first saw the movie during the opening credits I said to myself, "did Danny Elfman compose this?" then I saw "Music by John Ottman" and I was like, "oh God."

As for the train sequences, elfmans original music was awesom, but i liked chris young's as well. I thought it was elfman until i found out a yearish ago that young did it.

Young's music for the train sequence is fine on its own. Yet when you compare it to Elfman its when you realize how bad it is. Young just played the same notes over and over again and added some Elfman in and thats it. Danny Elfman actually made an exciting score that was energetic and put both the Spidey and Ock themes to good use.

why don't you like his music? I find it entertaining and fun. it sets the moods for the action scenes, the romance scenes, the whole film which is why I want him back for spidey3. I mean his music fit the scene that he was trying to make it go with. the amount of intensity in his music is phenomenal. wheather it's romance, or action it's all good. I have heard elfmans music in other movies and I still find it great. christopher young on the other hand is great as well, he just doesn't have as much talent as elfman but I am hoping for the best out of young if elfman isn't back for spidey though I think he is.

Ohhh i forgot all about Ottman. Now that you mention it, i was watching the usual suspects last weekend and the music is elfmanish..

Elfman is a way better composer then Young and i agree with you. But theres 2 spidey movies with the same music, so the third one should continue that music so i have to ask you this: Do you think Young is a good choice to just carry on what elfman established and make some new stuff?

I think he will get the job done, i just hope we get some quality.
 
Elfman music "exciting and energetic," you've got to be kidding me? The man has been laying down the same trite music, ripping himself off his entire career. Still with nothing new to offer. There's nothing exciting about that at all.
 
I love Elfman's score for 1 and 2.....i'm glad he's involved in three.

I think young should stick with what elfman did for the first two movies so that it doesn't mess up the score of the film. elfman established the score for the spidey movies the way he did because he said that there was two songs for two different people (different people is the way he see's it)m those two people are peter parker and spider-man. he said the music he did for peter parker was a mix of the main title theme and peter parkers music. now I to want good quality out of the music or else it will be bad, so I just hope young does his best.

Check out the main titles of the usual suspects and tell me you dont see any elfman influence. ( to cover my own tail im gona check out the track now).

What about his score to X-men 2? was it a rip-off? i dont remember it that well but i remember i liked it at the time the movie came out.
