Truly an amazing movie. I've longed for character development as deep as this since the Avengers ensemble. Civil War came close but this involved a lot more emotion. My wife cried at the end, something she rarely does watching movies.

I don't understand the complaint about the 1st 2 hours of the film being slow. I thought the pace and the plot works very, very well. If anything, I thought it could use another half an hour *shrugs*.

This definitely tops my MCU list, followed my Winter Soldier and GOTG1. It was just perfect.

Avengers: Endgame

Marvel did it again. It's an accomplishment that's never been done this big in cinema history. It's essentially a big bow tie celebration to the Marvel Cinematic Universe that started with the core Avengers members. Many superhero movies might have attempted a close to their superhero franchises, but Endgame is now the model on how to do this correctly on a much larger scale.

The first hour of this is very top heavy in acting and character study which I dug a lot. They really showcase a post-snap world and it's both haunting and sad. There's some action stuff in that first hour, but it's done very swift. The 2nd hour is probably the most fun part of the movie and the one that really defines what this movie needed to accomplish. In a way it's similar to Thanos and his quest to get the infinity stones. There's a lot of great laughs and interesting interactions that happens...not to mention the people that showed up. And the 3rd hour has the most bonkers action set piece the MCU has ever done.. even more than Infinity War and everything you ever want these superhero characters to do...do.

This movie is essentially the Return of the King of the MCU including all the multiple endings this has. It ends very poignant and classy as all hell and it manages to walk that tightrope pretty damn well between comedy and drama. Also you do kinda have to see every MCU movie to get every easter egg and callback in this. However, I do have some nitpicks and without spoiling it... logistically they do some things that did scratch my head. It never really ruined any moment, but it kept me thinking how they all place it together. That said, I loved every minute of it. It's probably my favorite theater experience ever...even more than TDK. It's truly a remarkable feat this movie manages to accomplish.

Nice write-up!

I agree the comedy and drama were balanced very well. I swear, The Russo brothers and the writers McFeely and Markus are damn near perfect at balancing action, humor and drama. As well as one of the hardest things to do with long movies, the pacing. The pacing was great for both IW and Endgame. Was never bored and they didn't feel as long as they should have.

Unfortunately, we all know the MCU is going downhill from here and in a real hurry with absolutely zero chance of it going any other way.

The main reason is because the original Avengers cast (the main 6), both the actors and characters that they played, had a tremendous story arc progress and an unbeatable charisma. When it comes to the latter, that is something you can't learn. You either naturally have it from the get-go or you don't. These new actors don't have an ounce of charisma the original cast had, not to mention all these new characters' arcs are ''progressing'' at a very fast rate (which is all the more ridiculously hurting the characters on its own).

The other reason (almost as important as the main reason) is the way Infinity War and Endgame concluded the current MCU.
Thanos and his army were a threat to the whole universe and it took 2 massive tries (out of which 1 failed miserably) and pretty much ALL heroes to defeat them.

That being said, villains that are gonna step onto the stage in the upcoming MCU movies in the next few years simply CAN'T be taken seriously. Spider-Man fighting the Elementals and Mysterio or whatever they're called? Spider-Man had just fought the superior foes
and survived and won.
Who cares about the Elementals and Mysterio? Stakes against them vs. stakes against Thanos - it can't even be compared. They are a piece of cake. Mordo (presumably will be the villain in Dr. Strange 2) posing a threat to Dr. Strange after Thanos and his army or even after Dormammu? Give me a break. Or whatever crap the (As)Guardians of the Galaxy run into?
Especially with Thor on their team now also.
It's all a ''hot knife through butter'' kind of thing.

That's the problem with momentum. Extremely tough to build it and incredibly easy to lose it. After Infinity War and Endgame, Galactus needs to be the next villain or the momentum is lost and the MCU is screwed with mediocre-couldn't-care-less-threatless ''threats''.

I thought Civil War was one of the best MCU films and Zemo one of my favourite villains. Just because he doesn’t fly around shooting lasers from his eyes doesn’t make it any less so.

Dont know if this is a spoiler. Probably a mild one. So i ll tag it.

Anyone else notice that the bad guy Thanos has a Left handed gauntlet but the good guys made a Right handed one ?
Basically the Left = Nazis and the Right = good guys. :D:D:D dont want to hurt anyones feelings. just saying this is pretty funny to me.

Dont want to get political but isnt that funny ?

That is a stretch. To say the very least.

If you re replying to me then id say you didnt even think about it.

They didnt just randomly made one left and one right handed gauntlet.

The probably wanted the gauntlets to mirror / oppose each other hence they decided to go one left one right handed.

From there its also unlikely they randomly gave one or the other to the opposing sides

Think about it.

I dont have any inside information im just laguhing about it. its a funny coincedence that the bad guys got the left one :funny:

Wow... I have no words... well except one... stupid. This is obviously not the case. You do realize that 98% of the cast and crew are left wing democrats, right? This isn't funny. It's sad that you even took the time to write this nonsense. Oh, and FYI, I'm a right wing conservative.

I don't get why some people have zero faith already on the future of the MCU after this. Perhaps it won't be better or as great as this era but there's no actual reason to think it'll be completly bad and l downhill.

Black Panther and Doctor Strange have potential to carry the franchise in their own ways and Captain Marvel can improve. Hulk and Thor are still going to be around a bit longer along with the Guardians plus of course the Fantastic Four and X-Men are coming.

Maybe Sony will decide to extend or make a new deal as well for MCU Spidey

I can only speak for myself here, but I was among those who felt the roles of BP and CM were underwhelming - ESPECIALLY the latter. I highly doubt Strange will become the face of the MCU. That leaves Hulk (who still can only appear in other films not his own) and Thor who quite clearly is going to be paired up with the Guardians.

There's just something about the Original 6 that is going to be hard to replicate.

Chill dude.

I said its funny to me. Not that its whats meant to be the case.

You re taking this too seriously when i literally wrote this a funny coincedence.

I think Thor would be the ideal new face of the MCU but I don't know how much longer Hemsworth is going to stick around. That leaves the second generation of heroes to take up the mantle.

Strange has become so much cooler outside of his solo movie, I think he is gonna be used by MCU a lot. And Guardians 3 will be hype as hell

I loved how he was in Infinity War and at the end of Endgame. It was great seeing him play the role in a serious manner thinks to the writing. I hope they don't take a step back for his solo sequel and make him joke a bit too much like the first act or two of his first film. He was the MVP in IW and in that seen was great between him and Thanos talking when Thanos first shows up on Titan.

This was spectacular. The perfect send off to the MCU and some of its characters we've loved over these many years. It was all so right. Bitter sweet, but right. One of the MCU's top tier films and perhaps arguably the best. This is the best ending I've seen since Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part II. Maybe even better. This movie is not only a great piece of filmmaking, but a testament to the entire endeavor that has been the MCU. How? By just making great movies. One of the best CBM's of the decade.

10/10

Congratulations to Feige, the Russos and everyone involved. This is peak MCU. Enjoy this guys. We are never going to see this ever again.

I'm guessing Thor will be in Guardians 3 then maybe get a proper send off with Thor 4 but maybe Feige will offer Chris Hemmsworth a chance to become the face and #1 to try to get Thor interact with the x men

Disney/Marvel got lucky with the timing of getting the rights back to the FF and X-men. Who knows how many movies Cumberbatch will want to do, if Sony will renew the deal with MS for Spider-Man and how many
Hemsworth will stay on for. I actually wonder if Gunn's Guardians 3 script included Thor or not. He would have had time to get notice from Feige as to how Endgame ends.

He has terrible luck outside of MCU so he will want to stay

I think he should do more films like "Rush" and "In the Heart of the Sea". He can do drama very well. Just needs to get or pick the right scripts. Hopefully the new Men in Black is a win for him.

Something that will suck not seeing in future films because of the acquisition timing will be..

Steve Rogers interacting with Cyclops or Tony Stark with Reed Richards, Charles Xavier and Wolverine or maybe Spidey with Human Torch, Iceman and Wolverine

I have similar feeling- it would be also really difficult to beat epicness of the IW and AEG. The sensible choice is to come back to "smaller" stories carried by the heroes for next few years. So far I do not see any of the remaining heroes (
O6 is generally out of picture
) to carry that. Not at this stage. BP was great in Civil War but in his own movie the supporting cast outshined him, CM was mediocre (at best). DS is played by the best actor IMHO but can he carry the franchise as
RDJ and Evans?
I put my hopes in Scarlett Witch - she has (already) tragic backstory and she has IMHO best chance to be a link between old and new.

On the comparison with TLJ: I might be biased because I am not comic book fan (I read only some single books - mostly from DC - not single book on Thor or IM for example). I can tell how I feel about MCU, not books. So If we take treatment given to O6 and O3 from SW (HS, Luke and Leia) - sorry, not this league - neither of O3 from SW had even Thor or Hulk treatment. Compare emotions
when BW or IM fall with HS or Luke deaths.
. Let's imagine final battle in TLJ when Luke is given Cap treatment - taking last stand.against Empire-wanna be team and crushing star destroyers etc. See the difference? That's why AEG would never divide the fans in TLJ way. You are not happy with Thor depiction? Look at Cap etc.

God I loved this movie. Only saw it once sober so I can't say for sure whether I like it more than Infinity War or not, but I loved a ton about it.

-Cap using Mjolnir
-Thor dual-wielding
The women attacking together
-Cap yelling "Avengers Assemble!!!" and leading the charge
-fat and sad Thor
-professor Hulk
there's a ton of stuff I can't remember loving that I'll have to watch again to remind myself about but an absolutely brilliant ending to the infinity saga, and I can't wait to see what Gunn does with Hemsworth.

Posting my brief thoughts here.

Overall this was thrilling. Absolutely loved the last hour and just the acting by Downey was incredible as he was nearing his end. He was able to emote this perfect balance of feeling at peace, being fearful of death, extreme fatigue, and losing all sense about him. I was literally crushed by that scene. I wish they could have had Cap talk to him as well but the way Pepper emotes that you can rest now. I was just broken. This man gave his all. He made the ultimate choice. That whole scene was sublime and oscar worthy

I was blown away by the sheer scale of the last hour and how they utilized every actor and actress. The shots, compositions and sfx were fantastic. I loved the action in this film

Regarding the first two acts, they felt like a different movie but in a good way. It was a very different type of plot and i liked the heist aspect to the story and the character interactions with earlier versions of themselves. Overall a solid 8-9/10 from me

One stand out for me personally was how incredibly bad ass Wanda was. I am so glad they gave her some emotional beats and the way she was ripping up Thanos. That brought a massive smile to my face. If it wasn’t for any intervention from the ship’s missiles she would have ended him then and there. Total bad ass!! And of course the often mentioned Cap with Mjolnir moments were incredible as well

Two nitpicks -

Thor’s handling and nerfing were poorly written. Didn’t like his arc overall although i see what they were trying to do. I would have prefered a lot more of the special power feats coming from him and hulk rather than CM. His blabbering while describing the ether wasn’t funny and no one was laughing in the theater. Some of the humor totally failed.

Lastly, no winter soldier captain america. I know falcon becomes CA in the comics but MCU falcon has his own fighting style and identity. Bucky has been Rogers longest time friend and central point of two films and fights similarly. To not pass the mantle onto Bucky made no sense. Additionally Falcon is not half the fighter that cap or bucky are. He got pwned by Rumlow in WS and is going to get his ass kicked here. Made little sense
