Ending of One More Day?

Hopefully never. My guess is that MJ somehow remembers everything. That way Marvel can use that as an out should things go bad.

I bet right before Mephisto makes the cosmic switch, he tells them that that Little girl was theres.

That's be the ultimate "f*** you" to all fans of Peter & MJ's marriage.

"By the way, not only are we dissolving one of Marvel's longest relationships, but their kid is the one who helped do it! Mwahaha!"

One More Day had so much potential... but then again, Marvel's hit a weird spot with Civil War and OMD... They took off more than they could chew.

I can't really credit arguments from pure profiteering in re: a company with four decades of brand equity and multiple massively successful Hollywood adaptations that still can't manage to move books outside of a tiny niche of an audience.

I'm just saying, you're making an argument that is reducible to "Joe Quesada is such a canny operater, so superlatively adroit at cynically manipulating the market, that Tokyopop whips his ass, every single day of the week."

Making people read the damn comics backwards, and they still whip his ass.
Manga has vastly better market penetration. People eat that **** up because it doesn't have the stigma of American comics, which are still, after all this time, viewed primarily as being for children and geeks.

As much as I'm not really a fan of Frank Miller, I do hope he can do some good in helping comics overcome that stigma. That's going to hinge primarily on whether The Spirit rocks or sucks.

See, I don't think movies are really going to inspire anyone to read comics. How many people do you know who saw Spider-Man or X-Men or even Road to Perdition or A History of Violence and then, knowing they're based on comics/graphic novels, went out and read them? ****, how many people do you know who've seen movies based on plain old books and gone out to read the books afterwards?

Well, the X-Men and Spider-Man movies were basically kid's movies anyway. Sin City is probably the best example of a movie that's obviously geared for adults and obviously comes from a comic book. Did it get people rushing into Barnes and Noble to get the trades? I don't know. I'm sure there was at least some sales spike. Movies like Road to Perdition (great, great movie, by the way) and A History of Violence aren't so clearly tied to their comic book roots. That's why, in my opinion, Miller kind of stands out among the rest. He's a director now. When the average joe sees his name attactched to a movie, that's what's going to pop up, "Oh, that comic book dude."

Except for one person who was interested in comics to start with, I've never found anyone that liked a based-on-comics movie and then wanted to read the source material.

I suppose. I'd be interested in seeing what those sales numbers were for Sin City and 300 after their theatrical releases. I'm sure there was a spike, but the question is whether the spike was big enough to constitute more than just the people who already were comic readers and just hadn't got around to buying those stories yet. I'm in that camp for Stardust, myself.

I forgot all about Stardust. I wanted to see on the big screen.

My buddy who's never read a comic book in his life started getting into comics after A History of Violence came out. :o

A friend of mine who was already into manga and Neil Gaiman decided to pick up some Miller stuff after Sin City and 300.

They're better than the ones who only read manga, as if it's intrinsically better than other comics because it's Japanese.

That's very true. I'm just tired of trying to talk comics with some of my friends and them being, "Oh, I don't even know what that is, it's so far beneath me. I'm finishing the 5th Lucifer trade right now."

My friend talks ad nauseam about Lucifer. I always tell him "I'll get to it eventually," but I think I'm subconsciously holding off on it out of spite right now.

I'm the exact same way about music with another friend of mine. He's an even bigger music snob then I am. It's gotten to the point that I'm probably missing out on some pretty great music out of spite. I'll usually throw out some half baked comment on how derivative a certain band is without actually giving them a decent listeb, just to hurt his feelings and bring him back to my level.

We're like two sides of the same coin. A really dirty, tarnished coin that not even superstitious people would pick up off the floor.

I dug one out of street tar once. So you're not that bad yet.

We are left to suffer the elements while our sole purpose remains unserved. :(

I smell an oppurtunity for some shameless self promotion.

check out my band.

The version of 'Mellow Man' is a great live take. Evolution Rocks is making its way into the school system.

Also,

I just got a suscription to megaupload for a couple of months, and they released that top 100 albums of indie rock. I alrealdy owned like 10 of them, but downloaded about the top 20 just to check out some new stuff.

90% of it sucked real bad.

I'll just be honest with you and say that I will never get around to checking your band out. Thanks, though.
