Supergirl Episode 3.03 "Far From the Tree" (SPOILERS)

Haha, well so far this season I've been pretty underwhelmed across the board. I think for me there are deep lying problems with this show that go back to Season 2. Maggie is one of those issues and I'm looking forward to her leaving.
I know you feel that way, which is why I said that. While I personally feel like the last two eps have been two of the best in the show's history. There's a depth and maturity in both writing and execution that I've NEVER seen in the show before this season, and they're finally exploring Kara's character/psyche the way I was waiting for them to for two whole seasons and had basically given up hope of ever seeing. You and I are just seeing two different shows at this point, lol, which is fine. To each their own.

But yeah, one of the things I liked about both eps is that they were using their whole ensemble perfectly to serve the main plot and kept the "sanvers" stuff where it belonged - off to the side. Looks like it's back to taking up a whole b-plot this ep, so I can't help but feel like this looks like a step back.

I don't know....the fact that pretty much the entire extended trailer was on Jonn's story WITH Kara...I think we may see the whole Maggie/Alex thing in the first portion of the episode, but then it moves entirely to Mars. I mean, I remember when I first saw the 1st sneak peek of the premiere and I was like....ooooh great its all about Lena and James, BOY was i wrong....

Though, let me just say, the episode Maggie leaves may well be when this season really comes alive for me altogether. I'm REALLY tired of her story line.

Hopefully you’re right about it taking up a small amount, but unlike the Lena/James sneak peek (which never bothered me because it was clearly all about Edge, one of our new recurring villains), this sneak peek features a guest star who will almost certainly be there for a whole plot line that has no connection to anyone other than Sanvers.. And since we know Eliza’s back too for this thing, all signs are pointing to a superfluous, Sanvers-centric b-plot to me, lol. I like Maggie when her stuff isn’t all about Sanvers (like the scene in "Triggers" when she showed up to the bank and kept the other cops away from seeing Kara and tried to help her), but if this is all they know how to do with her then yeah, I’ll be happy to see her go, too. Unfortunately, right after she leaves, Mon-El will probably come back, so I worry we’ll just be trading one set of relationship drama b-plots for another. Oh well, hope they find more balance like they did in the 1st two eps.

Who knows what's going to happen it looks like Saturn Girl is probably coming in episode 9 so yeah second-half of the season at least the third quarter of it will have Monel and Saturn Girl but I'm hoping that it will be more about him as a Superhero and introducing the Legion of superheroes than a relationship. I would like the drama of their shippers gone as well.

I think she's in Ep 7 because she was shooting before the crossover. I'm assuming that other Legion members will be around as well as it would be a truly sad state of affairs if the Legion is introduced just for relationship drama. That doesn't make sense but I can't put it past them.

This episode is all about fathers - Martian Manhunter's and Maggie Sawyer's.

A couple of more sneak peeks...

Do folks not like the Alex/Maggie relationship because (in typical CW fashion :cwink:) it’s being set up to fail? Is that the source of frustration? Or is it more the fact that any separate Alex arc necessarily robs Kara and Alex of sisterly screen time?

The #Sanvers shippers are upset because they believe they were led to believe that #Sanvers was end game...Then they hear about contract changes in March, then they hear about Floriana possibly leaving, then the proposal, then Floriana IS leaving after Episode 5....and they feel like it was "queer baiting"...

Others felt like that after the "coming out" arc for Alex, her character was weighed down by the #Sanvers relationship, and it was getting stale fast.

Then you have others like me that felt the writing for this couple was a little on the boring side, and with Maggie leaving are excited to see what else is in store for Alex. I don't believe her coming out as a Lesbian arc is quite finished, nor will it ever be finished, that is her life....so we are just waiting to see what happens.

When all of these groups clash on Twitter.....well, *sighs* all hell breaks loose.

Myself and others on another site were told that IF we are not LGBQT then we have no right to talk about what is right/wrong, what is LGBQT representation on tv, etc.....because we are straight, we are "privileged"......I've seen and read many things, but I've never been told that....:cwink:

A quick 26 hours later (??) and I've arrived in Canada to start working on the next episode of @TheCWSupergirl She posted this on the 22nd.

So, I guess it could mean she was already there, and has come back? But the next episode would be episode 9.

“I can’t take you away from Alex’s shower.” I’m sorry but the seriousness of that line got an unintended chuckle from me. “I’m probably going to my death but don’t mind me, I’d hate for you to miss this party!” :oldrazz:

They're doing a lot of studio filming I guess....

I know I complain about when b-characters take over the main plot at the expense of Supergirl herself, but I would SO not complain about a Legion-centric "flashback" episode set in the 31st century if that's what she and Chris have been up to all this time on studio soundstages...

So, there's a variation on the opening narration after all.

You know....Kara lives in a loft, Barry/Iris live in a glorified loft, Oliver lives in loft.....

This is a sad story.

I know it's because of budget but why would M'Gann be in her human form. Any of them.

Lol of course it has to be a relative, it's always a relative when your the last of your species.

Don't do a Martain heavy episode if you can't afford to do martians majority of the screentime.

Well at least we got a full scene between J'onn and his dad in full martian mode.

I'm glad they at least kept J'onn and his father in their Martian forms for that scene. Hopefully J'onn's father doesn't take a human form 'til he sees his son's, otherwise it won't make much sense.

Now wondering if J'onn will think up a specific memory that perhaps only he and his father would know. That usually works in these kind of scenarios on television or film.

So Supergirl is mostly back to her usual self and yet she's taking a backseat in this one. I guess the writers would only write for her if she was acting the way she was in the first two episodes.

I guess this episode continues Kara embracing her alienness. Love the new narrative that has plenty of Superman in it.
