Eragon

I'm surprised Jeremy Irons agreed to try a Dragon movie again after the used toilet tissue that was "Dungeons and Dragons".

The kid creeps me out, he looks weird.

Maybe he watched Dragonslayer instead.

Just started reading this book now, hoping to finish it before the movie comes out so i better be quick! But my Dad read it in four days on holiday so.

Not sure I can imagine Rachael Weisz doing the voice for this!!!!!! :wow:

great now i have to watch this movie for the TMNT trailer :(

I saw the trailer for this movie with Casino royale and I am so in. :yay:

I cannot believe that people are actually falling for this. Actually, it shouldn't come as a surprise to me as a lot of my friends, who I consider to be fairly intelligent, are saying they want to see this, too. It's really just my best friend and I who think this looks terrible—just too cliché. I mean, you can easily tell that a kid wrote this: "You're on the only one that can save us!" Please...

And I'm astounded that no one has even noticed and/or mentioned how this is a direct rip-off of STAR WARS. Seriously, there was a sneak-peak clip on Cinemax with Jeremy Irons' character telling the main character about the golden age of dragon riders, how everything in their country used to flourish before the dark times, and that one day the dragon riders will return. Also, in the trailer, there's even a shot of the damn boy staring off into the sunset! I mean, come on...

I'm not even going to explain how this is a rip-off of STAR WARS. If you cannot see it for yourself, you deserve to be fooled and waste your money on this movie.

Actually, I will say that the CGI looks amazing, so I'll give it a try and see it for the dragons, just to keep an open mind...

Is anyone else's main reason, except for the CGI not looking too good and the fact it looks like a cheap copy, for not wanting to see this the kid, Ed Speelers, I think he's off puttingly ugly.

Eragon was decent book. There was nothing groundbreaking as far as fantasy writing goes and Christopher Paolini being like 15 when he wrote it borrowed a lot from other stories, including Tolkien and Star Wars. It did have a certain charm to it which was the characters. If the movie can capture that I think it has a shot at being a movie worth seeing.

I saw the trailer yesterday. THis movie looks good!

There has been much criticism of Eragon, regarding everything from word usage to the marketing techniques (critics deride the labelling of the author as a "prodigy" or "wunderkind") to its derivative nature. The novel has been accused of relying heavily on genre clichés and themes popularized by earlier novels such as J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings. Paolini employs stock characters, such as Elves, Dwarves, and an Orc-like race known as Urgals, complete with an elite sect known as the Kull, comparable to Saruman's Uruk-hai. Much of the language in Eragon is comparable to that of Lord of the Rings and some words are nearly identical. For instance, Elessar, Elessari; Morgoth, Morgothar; Imladris, Imiladris; Mithril, Mithrim.[2]

You people are making such a big deal out of this. You're all acting like you expect the film to get nominated for awards and be the BEST FANTAsY FILM EVER. It's not. It's just trying to be a good action/fantasy film, and I think that's what it looks like.

Why is it not trying to be the best fantasty film ever? Why not try to be as good as possible?

It is trying to be as good as possible, but I don't think it's trying to dethrone something.

Is it wrong to watch a film based on a book without having read the book before hand?
Then there's a lot of films you shouldn't see:huh:

Exactly! Thank you! I never understood it when people tried to pass off a movie's poor quality by saying it's not trying to be good. It's like saying I suck at everything, but it's OK, I'm trying to suck. This is why I don't waste my money on drivel like SNAKES ON A PLANE and it's a concept that a lot of people on this message board don't seem to understand; they mistake it for snobbery or elitism, but it's far from those things.
