‘Eternals’ Eyes $70M+ Box Office Opening Weekend After $30M Projected Friday – Deadline
The opening is pretty good.
The real test will see how much it drops next weekend. Black Widow dropped a big 68%, thanks in part because of Disney+. Shang-Chi did much better at 54%.
If this drops above 60%, it’ll be in trouble.
With Friday’s numbers included, Disney/Marvel’s Eternals increased its international box office to $38.4M through the first three days of offshore rollout. This portends an overseas opening weekend of $80M+. The global cume through Friday is $69.1M with domestic included, making for a possible $150M+ worldwide debut on the Chloé Zhao-directed superhero gods movie.
That's pretty terrible for superhero flick.B Cinemascore.
WOM not looking good. Fans come out early. The more it falls over the weekend, the more it shows how people are reacting. Being in the 60s after opening to 30m would not be good.To me it looks like it's already crumbling domestically. Expectations have fallen to 69M.
well if its 69.9 or something like that it still reaches 70 million on Monday. That's pretty terrible for superhero flick.

And? The issue would be how much it fell over the weekend. Such trends don't usually break. The big opening day with poor multipler for the weekend, means hard days ahead. If it really does come in under 70m, it won't touch Shang-Chi at the domestic box office. Might not even touch 200m. And that would be a bit of a disaster.well if its 69.9 or something like that it still reaches 70 million on Monday.
All the major publications are lowering expectations. Today's numbers are soft and it got a B cinemascore. What do you expect to change?I want to see what final figures end up being tomorrow before I get too entrenched on whether it was a good weekend or not

Well Shang Chi did have the benefit of a holiday weekend. And? The issue would be how much it fell over the weekend. Such trends don't usually break. Do you think the experts are lying? It's Sat night. It would be really strange for them to be off now.I always wait for hard data. At least when we are talking quantifiable things like box office.
Shang-Chi did 75m over the weekend. On Labor Day weekend. One that saw a lot of travel, which is why it's Monday was inflated, beyond the holiday. If anything, Shang-Chi's weekend was incredible because of that.Well Shang Chi did have the benefit of a holiday weekend.

There need not be any back and forth. You don't have to reply to me. IF you don't think there is a conversation to be had without the final numbers, why post in the thread until we have them at all?I dont know why my statement that I want to see what final number is bothering you so much. I get it, the trend is downward. But let's wait and see what the damage is. I don't see why that is a controversial statement. Or requires a massive back and forth.
Yes. Unless The MatriX surprises all of us with its Resurrections.So…Spider-Man No Way Home is inevitably going to be the only movie that opens to a hundred million, isn’t it?
Yes. Unless The MatriX surprises all of us with its Resurrections.
