Eternals Eternals at the Box Office

The opening is pretty good.

The real test will see how much it drops next weekend. Black Widow dropped a big 68%, thanks in part because of Disney+. Shang-Chi did much better at 54%.

If this drops above 60%, it’ll be in trouble.

If it drops like 62%, that would be okay cause many blockbusters do. But beyond that would be a problem

To me it looks like it's already crumbling domestically. Expectations have fallen to 69M.

Looks like this will be hitting at Ant-Man levels when it needed to be much bigger.

B Cinemascore.
That's pretty terrible for superhero flick.

WOM not looking good. Fans come out early. The more it falls over the weekend, the more it shows how people are reacting. Being in the 60s after opening to 30m would not be good.

well if its 69.9 or something like that it still reaches 70 million on Monday.

I want to see what final figures end up being tomorrow before I get too entrenched on whether it was a good weekend or not

And? The issue would be how much it fell over the weekend. Such trends don't usually break. The big opening day with poor multipler for the weekend, means hard days ahead. If it really does come in under 70m, it won't touch Shang-Chi at the domestic box office. Might not even touch 200m. And that would be a bit of a disaster.

All the major publications are lowering expectations. Today's numbers are soft and it got a B cinemascore. What do you expect to change?

I always wait for hard data. At least when we are talking quantifiable things like box office.

Well Shang Chi did have the benefit of a holiday weekend.

Do you think the experts are lying? It's Sat night. It would be really strange for them to be off now.

Shang-Chi did 75m over the weekend. On Labor Day weekend. One that saw a lot of travel, which is why it's Monday was inflated, beyond the holiday. If anything, Shang-Chi's weekend was incredible because of that.

I dont know why my statement that I want to see what final number is bothering you so much. I get it, the trend is downward. But let's wait and see what the damage is. I don't see why that is a controversial statement. Or requires a massive back and forth.

There need not be any back and forth. You don't have to reply to me. IF you don't think there is a conversation to be had without the final numbers, why post in the thread until we have them at all?

71 mil def lower than expected. I hope holds into next weekend are good. But it does look like this is turning into one of those not fun to discuss with other people movies. So not sure how active round these parts I am going to be.

I do hope this does enough to justify a sequel.

So…Spider-Man No Way Home is inevitably going to be the only movie that opens to a hundred million, isn’t it?

With the same ‘B’ Cinemascore as BvS(which had a big opening and suffered through big drop offs in subsequent weekends) I don’t foresee the second weekend drop-off being too pretty.
