Evil Dead (2013) - Part 1

I'm gonna wait for a Director's Cut or something, maybe this Halloween?

Cool little behind the scenes feature.

Finally got to see this. Eeesh.

Was actually surprised that the gore didn't bother me as much as I had expected, the [BLACKOUT]tongue slice[/BLACKOUT] was the only part that really got to me. Jane Levy was excellent and I loved the nods to the original.

Also I read some comments from the director where he said he likes the idea that it's the same cabin, just 30 years later, after a family bought it and cleaned it up, but now the book has returned. I think that's pretty cool.

Would love to see that explored in a sequel but I don't know how far you can take it considering the goofy humor in the originals.

Anyway I'm giving this a B+

I'm pretty sure this is Evil Dead 4. When they announced it their was a HUGE fan backlash so they removed the 4 and let people assume it was a reboot.

As far as I've seen in interviews the director has always just said it was another batch of kids in a cabin and not a remake just his Evil Dead.

Well ED4 is fine with me, I like the idea. Nearly everything I've heard on the subject has been hazy on whether it's a reboot or sequel, until the quote I mentioned anyway.

Wonder how jarring it'd be if they brought Ash back and had him play it straight without the humor?

I think it could be done... though I much prefer he be left in the original three.

I would love to see Ash down the line, but Mia would be enough for the next sequel for me, I just want to see were she goes from the end of this movie.

I hope they follow through with that plan they announced a few months back. Have a sequel with Mia, another Ash Evil Dead film, then merge the two narratives. That'd be ****ing awesome!

I've now watched this movie twice and while I like the movie at times it's seems like it's missing something. I wonder if some of the scenes show in the trailor but are not in the movie is the reason why I feel like this. I also wonder if I'm not watching with a compleatly open mind because the thought of this being a reboot is clouding my judgement. The one thing I was disapointed with was that Olivia was just killed off without having to go through the same torture that the other characters did.

While she did try and cut her face off it just seemed like she was possessed then killed while all of the other chaacters where went though some kind of torment or torture before being possessed then killed. Personaly considering she was the one telling then it's all in Mia's head and not to believe her, I would have like to seen her have that moment where she realizes Mia was lying or saying this because of the withdrawal. While I get her reason for not believing Mia but to me her actions kinda come across selfish. I know there is more than likely a better way to say that so I hope you guys get what I'm saying.

All in all I would give the movie an 8/10.

I actually went to my local Target to check out the Steelbook to see if I liked it in person as much as I like the looks in the picture and they didn't even have it.

And when it started raining blood did anybody else expect the Slayer song Raining Blood to start playing?

They could have at least kept the Necronomicon the same.

One of the writers said the the last scene is based on that Slayer song.

They could have at least kept the Necronomicon the same.

The name and design of the original book are copyrighted and they could not use it in the remake.

Blood, blood, blood. I expected more, but still. Serviceable acting except for Levy who should get far, and not just with her thighs, a few Raimi-isms too many, but still very good. I enjoyed it from every aspect, had lots of fun. The being that woke up was kinda meh, but it's ok, the rest of the movie was enough to compensate me. Levycandemonsnogmeanytime/10

On there being too many Rami-isms, Alvarez agrees with you. At one point there were even more but he was able to change it up. Originally he also wasn't going to include the tree rape. Instead a deadite coyote was going to vomit into her mouth, which would be consistent with how it spreads to everyone else. I don't really understand what the producers' intent was with forcing in so much of their own movie.

Did they force it? Or did Alvarez go "Predators" with his tributes and regretted it during editting?

I believe its been said that it was Tapert who insisted upon its inclusion. Again it wasn't part of Alvarez's original scripts, and he's spoken several times about how halfway through production how he "felt terrible" and began to wonder what the point of the whole thing was.

Now it's the Bluray cover. That's what bugs me about its inclusion, it really hurts this films ability to have its own identity, which i think is a shame because there was a lot of distinct style at play at times throughout the film.

Ah, that's such a shame. An enjoyable movie which could've been better. Alvarez had a unique vision and knew what he was doing. Hopefully next time.

@fedalvar

If this was 1988, this would be coming out this week

What a horrid cover :(

(The Blu-Ray for the 2013 film)

I didnt mind the Raimi'isms at all because for me they made the movie more enjoyable, I got a big smile on my face when they came on, and lets face it, the moment when
Mia shoves the Chainsaw into the demons face and leaves it there for a little while
is the best part of the movie and totally a Raimi-like scene.
