Evil Dead (2013) - Part 1

They should change the title of this movie to Eric's Very Bad Day. I watched it again last night and that guy goes through some ****. Seriously. I think he gets it worse than anyone else. Also, when this comes out on blu ray I'm doing a fan edit where Raining Blood by Slayer kicks in during the finale.

The blonde girlfriend did what she could really, she was a throw away character and was treated as such, though I did feel sorry for her when she went back to "normal" after being a deadite.

And yeah, Eric got some really bad **** done to him, I dont think a character has ever physically been abused so much in a horror movie!

I really didn't have a problem with anyone's performance, it's just that blondie got nothing to do until her arm got cut off. She was really minimized compared to everyone else, for whatever reason.

Eh, she was irrelevant. But remember, she only really knew David. She was basically a fifth wheel, if I remember correctly.

Please post the Slayer edit when you do it.

Oh I will. That's all I could think when it started. It would have been balls to the wall crazy to have Raining Blood play in the theater during that whole sequence.

Finally saw this last night.

1. Jane Levy made me a believer. She was great. Between her and Alan Tudyk, I am tempted to watch Suburgatory, even though it looks awful.

2. Like people have said, the chainsaw scene at the end was the best part.

3. I was disappointed with
the after-credits "scene." I was getting pumped for it, because I was so excited to see Bruce, and the voice-over from the old movie was a nice touch, but when all we got was "Groovy" and him looking at the camera, it was a letdown because it in no way really ties the movies together. It's just like a "thanks for watching the credits!" I was hoping Mia would be stumbling down a road and a car would pull up, see her missing hand and the shape she is in, put it all together, and THEN we get... "Groovy."

So, are we getting Evil Dead 2 with Levy and then seperately, AOD2 with Campbell? I hope so as I want to see what Fede would do with a ED2.

Definitely Evil Dead 2, AoD 2 depends on whether Sam will actually write a script.

Suburgatory is a great show...Jane makes it though. So entertaining to watch.

I'd love to see her and Campbell in ED together. Comedy gold that would be :D

Awesome, ED2 could be really good as it would have less re-make elements in it and would be more its own thing. It will be very interesting to see the direction they take the story in.

If they are planning on bringing the two narratives together, then the new ED2 needs to do something to bring itself closer to the tone of the originals, while AoD2 needs to bring itself closer to the ED remake. I figure if the two meet in the middle it'll be a lot of fun.

I said the movie should include dark humour, like the original sequel.

Most fans and critics wanted that for this.

They'll have to find a balance. As much as I love the originals, they can be a bit too campy at times.

I agree.

I think the dark humour should strictly come from Mia...who's basically sick of the **** :funny:

Jane is a great comedy actress.

Well this is the only role I have seen Levy in, so I dont know her comedy credentials, but if she is good at it, they should put at least SOME humour in the sequel.

But despite loving the original ED2 and AOD, I dont want that level of comedy, just a bit of dark humour, I liked the re-make but a bit of dark comedy wouldnt have gone amiss. Especially if they had the actress for it, it would seem like a bit of a missed oppurtunity to do otherwise.

A sequel has to give us more of the creepy backwoods redneck gypsy family. You could really build out the world with that idea. I mean, who the hell were they? Imagine an already deformed Deadite. Yeesh.

Remember the hillbilly family in The Hail To The King VG? Lol

The spider granny.

Weren't those (or the dad, at least) the Knowby's? I thought I heard them say as much, but I don't really remember.

As for the tone, I say keep it as is. I found the remake quite funny in a very dark, grisly way--Mia literally gets "sick of this ****" and rips her own hand off--and don't want too much slapstick or Three-Stoogery.

Although, intentional comedy made me enjoy ED2 a lot more than ED1, with all its special effects failures and some narm-y acting (Even if "She's your girlfriend, you take care of her" probably is the best line in a horror movie), so who knows.

I don't think they said a name and they weren't named in the credits either. I got the impression that the Dad, the off-screen dead-momma, and the Deadite girl were one family, and that the backwoods hillbilly gypsies were another and they got involved to stop this bout of possession.

I believe the prologue was in the past, but I wouldnt mind seeing some descendants of the gypsy family in a sequel, maybe whem having experience of being a deadite.

Judging by the state of the dead cats, I don't think the opening occurs that far in the past. Only a few weeks perhaps.

This film sure hates domestic household pets.

Is it some kind statement? Along with the lesbianism bringing about evil infection possession? :p

I just assumed they were different cats, dont remember cats being in the opening personally, but that is probably just my memory.

Well, lets face it, there wasnt enough lesbianism in the movie!
