I've mentioned this in other threads but ithought i would highlight it here.

People always say that the hulk's size with betty was too big for proper interaction with that character.

I agree somewhat but I do believe he was that big for a reason.

I think it is to directly correlate with Betty's dream where bruce picks her up as a child and then strangles her.

so based on this, i can see why he was kept that large for the initial section of that scene since he did pick betty up (just like in the dream) and placed her down on an elevated surface.

The only contrast is that in her dream, a man she loved was killing her and in reality a monster she somewhat was in awe of and a lil scared actually helped her.

Does this scenario make the scene any more reasonable for peeps who thought he was far too big in it?

maybe if he was a lil smaller, had picked her up with two hands instead of one and you also got that POV shot of her looking into the hulks face while being carried (similar to the one you get of banners face), the scene perhaps would have been a clearer contrast to her dream sequence.

I don't mind if you disagree with me, i'm just throwing something out there.

That sounds very reasonable and I could believe that a Director like Lee was looking for that premonition (her dream) become reality.

One thing about that scene which I quite did not get was Bruce strangling her at the end when he turns back. It is along the lines of her dream but it seemed to indicate that the Hulk was in a mindless rage and that was the after effects of it whereas the Hulk shown there was not mindless.

maybe the dream just addressed the fact she believed bruce had a 'bigger' hidden buried anger manifested within

Most probably but why should have it been directed at her. The other image was that her father handed her to Bruce (by handing her to the waitress who became Bruce) which was totally against what was going on in the story. Looking at her dream, Banner was a dangerous psychopath who had her father's approval. Then again, his hand was covering her mouth and not going for her throat so maybe the dream was also to indicate he would have a big secret for her to keep. Of course, everyone knows who the Hulk is in the movie so that did not really fit. :o

The handing over of her father to bruce is perhaps an indication of her father potentially letting go of betty since she was in a relationship with bruce.

This is somewhat paralled with the fact that General Ross keeps a firm grip on his daughter throughout the film as he doesn't want her to inevitably get killed by bruce like david killed bruce's mother and this is what i think is his primary motivation throughout the film, no matter what he says. This is why Ross gets really upset hthat bruce is doing similar work and research to his father even though he can't remember the matters of his mother's death and before hand.

Hmm I guess it can be interepreted that way but it was very muddled.

Of course, I agree that the underlying motivation for Rosss was protecting his daughter but that does not quite fit hrimage of him letting her go. It was somewaht contradictory.

the letting go part would be representative of bruce and betty at that point in their relationship when the actual dream sequence occured.

i'm sure she said something about not seeing her dad in a while during it, i may be mistaken

That was after they had broken up when she said they had not been talkig but it is safe to assume that even when they were together she was not talking with him given her father did not know she was going out with Banner.

And I pretty much agree with what you say in your first paragraph.

you say going out with betty but you mean banner.

coolio...

I just hope this thread may be able to help other people see this.

i've had this viewpoint for years and i'm always having to repeat it so i thought it should perhaps come in this thread and may help people understand why certain things were shown in teh light they were.

It may not be ang lee's intended vision but i feel it helps bring lose aspects of the film together and provide a better viewing experience.

Explanation for hulk's large size with scene with betty...

bad movie making.

It's a cool concept if true, but I still think Hulk should've been 8 or 9 feet through the whole movie.
