The idea that this film is a loyal adaptation of the Ultimate version doesn't hold much water. Ben was intentionally written as scrawny here, and he was a big guy in Ultimate, Mole Man was hideous looking in Ultimate while he's just a dude in a suit here, and Doom's transformation made him more of a freak than a techno-hobo. Sometimes it seems like people that have already decided they love this film use the Ultimate line as a shield.

Here are the points that Kebbell consistently repeated about Doom in all his interviews while doing the press rounds for Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes...

* His name's Domechev not Von Doom.
* Getting Doom's voice right was important since it's basically American with a slight trace of Eastern European.
* He's a programmer. An anti-social programmer.
* In chat-rooms and blogs, he goes by Doom.

I previously thought that he was simply blabbering off the cuff about blogging and whatnot. Now, it's clear to me that this was a crafted message that someone (studio or filmmaker) instructed him to deliver to the press. Good god, that truly goes beyond insane, well into the unfathomable. Just when I thought there were no more horrors to unearth!

If they think those are Dr. Doom's four most saliant characteristics, it simply makes me want to retch. Astoundingly, this is a worse decision than Cloud Galactus! I don't care if this damn thing turns out to be the Citizen Kane of CBMs, that is unforgivable.

All I said was I'm ok with it and people just run with it here. It's very hard to openly be honest here because no matter what I say or do, people think I'm an idiot. I wasn't even defending the movie. I said it could turn out terrible but Flint brought up people who are into it and wanting to know why, and I said my reasons. But there's no point. I'm not trying to convince people to see it just sharing why I'm looking forward to it but it seems I'm not allowed to be into it because I use the ultimate run as a shield apparently. I never even said I love this movie. I'm waiting to make up my mind once I see it.

I think a lot of folks are over-complicating this crapfest. Here's what I know...

1. Fox had absolutely no interest in putting out a FF movie and were woefully unprepared to do so. The only reason it wasn't shelved was that they would lose the rights to the characters. This was a cheap rights grab.

2. The only reason Trank was hired was that he made a visually impressive (and overall quite good) movie on a shoestring budget. The original FF budget was on the extreme lower end of the norm for the Marvel/DC CBM genre in this day and age. Even more so when one considers the source material. Again, this was a cheap rights grab.

3. Trank's behavior over the past several months has (at a minimum) been bizarre. Trank was clearly not emotionally/psychologically ready to helm even a medium-high budget movie. He screwed things up royally (at the very least from Fox's perspective) necessitating major re-shoots, possibly cutting into the 3D conversion budget. The cheap rights grab started to get more expensive.

4. The cast has collectively behaved like buffoons every single time they've talked to the press about this movie. From Mara who didn't seem like she knew she was in the movie despite Kinberg telling everyone that they were going to start shooting in a couple of days to "they'll see it anyway" to "he hate me" to BLOGGER ****ING DOOM. Except possibly Jamie Bell, who said... nothing.

5. The source material has been thrown out the window. There's a reason folks here are calling it FFINO. This has been discussed many many times on this and other threads so I won't go into it in depth. Making changes to the source material can often be a good thing. And at times it is an absolute necessity. However, in this case, the source material has simply been thrown out. That's a big, disgusting difference.

6. Fox has mishandled the marketing of this movie. From sheer apathy to not putting out a consistent message to the "Meet Mark Millar: FMCU Overlord" fiasco (LMAO... remember that?) to talking about grandiose FF/X-Men crossover plans only to hastily backpedal to... gods, I just realized I could just drone on and on and on about this and not even scratch the surface. Jeez, this is really starting to depress me. Let's just move on.

7. Everyone surrounding the movie pretend that all of the people who are critical of this production are critical only because a black actor is playing a white character. Ironically, I think the MBJ casting (class-A jackass and overall dum-dum that he is) might actually be the single only thing that this entire production has gotten right. That leaves me bitter and the following even more so... why not cast a black actress as Sue? Not that adopted siblings are necessarily "lesser" than natural siblings in any way ... but when the entire reason for them to be adopted siblings is so that they can cast a white woman as Sue, it ****ing reeks of tokenism. There is truly much ugliness here.

Look, I could list off a dozen more points, but I really don't have the time, and this is really starting to bum me out. Again, moving on.

This still might be a good movie... Trank (despite everything) has shown flashes of talent... but I cannot in good faith support it. I feel obligated to actively root against it. I hope it crashes and burns at the BO. I hope it offends the public to the extent that they have to apologize for having made this. To the extent that Fox learns lessons from their mishandling of this production. For the absolute hellish WTF-ery they've put long time FF fans through.

To me, this is not the FF and never will be. FFINO 'twill forever be.

"I am Domechev... what firewalls dare stand before me?"

*weeps openly*

I think FFINO has finally, officially driven me nuts.

No one thinks you're an idiot. (At least I don't. :cwink:) You seem pretty cool to me and I appreciate you sharing your thoughts. No one can stop you from looking forward to this. Time will tell if the film is worthy of your expectations or that audiences will latch onto this reinvention. Just realize there's a lot of us around these parts who really dislike the direction this film has taken.

Doom's too aloof to be a blogger and even if he chose to do so he wouldn't hide behind an alias.

Thank you. I know you don't as we have had some fun sane discussions. I'm fully aware of the bad in this movie. The negativity outweighs the positivity. I'm so fine with everyone's reasoning for not being into the movie. I understand everyone completely. It's very hard because F4 has a huge loyal fanbase and Fox aren't getting it right for them. Which isn't good at all. I'm just a very positive guy lol. I give the underdog a chance and overall I wait to see it. I watch every comic book movie. Even if I'm hearing how bad they are. Since Iron Man and on pretty much every comic book adaptation has been good. Some amazing, some not so much. I do think F4 is going to be liked but it's not faithful which will be a huge issue for it. Like you said time will tell.

I'm stating my opinion on why I'm interested in the movie. Flint wanted to know why some of us defending it have been and those are my reasons. I personally don't care about that but if other people do that's their thing. I'm ok with that. Can I have an opinion or will I be questioned for it? This is a discussion about who's into it and who isn't. Simple.

Maybe they thought adding that in will give his character "layers" i said its 2015 because it is. In 2015 everyone gets online and chat and crap. We are doing it. Why can't a villain?

I want to read your opinion....and don't worry about those that will have a rebuttal to every point you ever make. That's just how they are...:cwink: They don't mean to be mean by doing it, they are just passionate about what they have loved about the F4 for a long time.

Thanks. Yeah I know. I have nothing against them. I can tell they are very passionate. We all are. That's why we are here :)

That's easy to lose sight of sometimes.

I can think of at least one really bad comic adaptation since Iron Man... Fox's X-Men Origins: Wolverine. What a downer after Iron Man and TIH and the Dark Knight. First Class saved Fox's hides honestly. On other fronts, there was Green Lantern and then Jonah Hex. Man of Steel had its problems and ASM 2 - well I couldn't even finish it - but at least Sony finally wised up as a result so it wasn't a complete disaster. But I agree - for the most part - since Nolan and the MCU stepped onto the scene - everyone has upped their game. Can you imagine the ire Fox would be receiving if they were still producing drivel like Borigins' Barakapool? And you never would have seen a film like DOFP if it wasn't for Marvel's ambitious Avengers' films.

I tend to be a positive guy too but Fox really burned that goodwill with what they've done with the Fantastic Four. They are so not off the hook here. I still am peeved about what they did to Galactus. And what they've done since with this lo-fi gritty reboot makes me want to puke. There's no fact bending involved to say that their batting average with non-X properties is: .000

If this film is actually good then Fox may have finally built some street cred outside of the X-franchise. But it's a long shot. And I don't see the target fanbase on board at all. They're going for something else altogether. Whether that is good or bad we can discuss till we're blue in the face but it will be interesting to see what actually happens when it hits theaters. I personally despise everything I've seen about this film. I don't even recognize it. But I don't need to be right. I never cared about that. I just want the FF to get the film they truly deserve.

+1
Exactly my position as well. Cheers.

Hahahaha I legit forgot origins existed. It's basically blocked out of my memory. So glad that it's wiped out of continuity.

I want F4 at Marvel to be honest. I would prefer Fox to be smart and trade them in at marvel for some merch rights. And cut a better deal with Marvel. They don't have creative control but at least make a profit and then they would do tie in stuff that both Marvel and Fox would make money off. Shame that egos are probably what's sacrificing a great partnership.

So wait ... we got a Fox Nazi telling other people what they should and should not like? Get out of here with that garbage man. So what if a movie got a high RT score? I prefer to use the gray matter between my own ears and decide for myself. No one tells me what to like and not like. I could have a field day with all the problems with DOFP. It's not a perfect movie and not everybody has to love it. Deal with it.

Fox is God, is perfection,is life,MS and Feige are the Devil..we just don't get it.

Kinda funny how often the reverse of this exact sentiment is expressed on the internet(s). I mean the misc cbm section had various polls about the greatest vs greatest and worst vs worst studios and it was the usual suspects.
I suppose this section has seen stranger things.

Very cool....

I just wish they would come up with some new pics... :(

I swear Sue looks like her head has been photoshopped onto the body.

Are those for sale or are they being given to theaters or something?

And why dog-tags? Is that because of the whole military angle?

They're for Fox's loyal troops that defend the honor of this movie. :o

I've actually seen these sort of tags used as promotional items before. They're relatively cheap to mass produce, like a keychain. I think I have one from some random box of goodies I got once, but I couldn't tell you what it was for (not even sure where that stuff is right now).

Yeah I saw some Sunkist 12 pack or something with the FF tie-in drinks the other day.
