I don't know where you think general audiences WOULD be talking about the film, since most of those who wpuld be considered to comprise the general audience don't don't engage in the same type of behavior that fans do (talking about it onljne or on social media).

Probably maybe Facebook, Reddit or literally anything like that.

Not seeing it like I was for Jurassic World, Avengers, Mad Max or even a lot of last summer's movies.

The excitement for this film could fill a sandwich bag.

The 21 second mark where Thing is walking.

I've seen better PS2 games than this. Not that the other 3 look much better in that scene. I mean come on do they seriously expect people who have doubts about this film to soak this up???

No wonder they're so shy when it comes to revealing bits about this film. Dare I ask what Domashev will be like?

Full lighting is not the least bit kind to the walking turd known as little Benji Grimm.

Too bad they didn't stick to their guns and keep the original release date. Jurassic Park would have made paste out of this thing by now.

God that would have been an epic slaughtering.

People would have sung songs about it generations later.

Few films in the history of cinema wouldn't have been crushed by JW lmao! I mean it's only the quickest movie to ever make a billion dollars.

Then Inside Out would have dried that paste, crushed it to dust and swept it away.

If only Fox would have had some confidence in this. :csad:

I remain convinced that the story and the actors involved in the film will pique general audience interest and result in financial sucess for the film, especially if it receives a favorable response from critics like I believe it will.

But even if FFINO does receive two thumbs up from leading critics, what's the "hook" that's going to get audiences to spend their hard earned money on Trank's "contemporary re-imagining"? The impact of longtime fans sitting this one out can certainly be debated, but outside of the Marvel logo, what is drawing Jessie and John Q Public into the theaters?

Recent marketing efforts has FFINO positioned as a standard superhero team up and basically a rehash of the failed Story duology. It's not for kids, features no box office stars and is coming on the tail of two Marvel Studio Marvel films. Are people going to suddenly decide "Let's give the FF a third chance" on August 7th? It sounds like wishful thinking.

1) The story

2) The resumes of the actors

3) The fact that it's from the same studio that gave us X-Men: Days of Future Past

4) General interest in the look of the movie

Some combination of these things will, I believe, get general audiences into the theater, especially if they're bolstered by favorable critical opinions.

The Thing does not look good at all in the new TV spot. Seeing him in motion next to the other three really highlights just how small the budget on this thing is in comparison to what it should be. The decision to have him not wear pants is laughable and stupid on so many levels, it makes my head hurt that so many people signed off on it.
You can go back and look through my posts, I was on board with the way the Thing looked in the first few promotional pictures. That sentiment has taken a complete 180.
I don't know what's worse, the way he looks, the awful trash bag containment suits, or Kate Mara's wig.
Oh, and watch this if you want a good laugh:

Miles Teller looks like he belongs in the tv show The L Word.

1. What story? The story about how 4 people get powers from another dimension? Wow...what a plot. If you've seen evidence of any deeper story than that from those trailers or TV spots, then more power to ya.

2. House of Cards fans may recognize a few actors. Otherwise, the general public knows no one here.

3. I haven't seen Fox mention the X-Men films anywhere in their marketing. The GA has no idea this is from the same studio. Correct me if I'm wrong.

4. Have yet to me meet anyone in person who has showed any interest in this movie whatsoever.

Few films in the history of cinema wouldn't have been crushed by JW lmao! I mean it's only the quickest movie to ever make a billion dollars.

But I would have lacked a reason to roundly mock any of those other films for it, so they aren't relevant to my statement. ;)

Oddly enough.. ive personally seen no one excited about this film in my social life (even social networking) whos excited about this film, and im one of the only comic geeks in my circle of friends. I know my close friends have no desire to see this film and have no clue who any of these actors are and ive honestly had no influence on that. And this is coming mostly from a 25-35 year old demographic.

Id say there biggest competition may end up being paper towns (which hits the teen demo and could be going strong still) , mission impossible, and Vacation which... if actually good... could do pretty well based on nostalgia alone.

I also wouldnt count out man from uncle which comes out the following week, and has likely a similar target demographic

lol! Curse them for not having a spine! I'm not sure how I feel about a jelly-legged corporation that doesn't stand behind their product. I might have to see some other movie instead.

I think I'll take Ant-Man's cool camera work over this bad CGI thing from the tv spot.

They mentioned DOFP in their teaser trailer (not sure about tv spots) and if I am not mistaken their posters as well. They made it plenty clear that the movie was "From the studio that brought you Days of Future Past". lol

Wow......some of you have a lot of faith in the general audience coming out to support this reboot of a lackluster franchise thats only 10 years old. The same stale trailers. And the four showing their awesome powers again from 2005. At least the 2012 ASM had the previous Raimi blockbusters to hang its hat on. Cant wait till Monday morning August 10th.

Unfortunately we live in an age where even Bayturtles can earn enough for a sequel.

Chris Hardwick said Ant-Man was so much fun.

Can't wait to see it.
Same

I watched the bathtub clip earlier. Those macro shots are going to kill.

I wish this film were something I felt that kind of excitement for.

Yeah that's true but at least the Turtles franchise had a lot of things going for it in the past. Including a popular cartoon series to boot.

Exactly. The trailers are showing things that I have never seen done before in a movie about a character who shrinks.

1. Peaked my interests about a character I never cared about.

2. Got me curious about how he will fit within the MCU.

3. And most of all just looks like 2 hours of fun entertainment.

It sells itself.

I didn't know that, good to hear.
I'm still concerned about Ant-man, but I'm far more confident in it as a satisfying film than this travesty.

Yep. At the VERY least it'll bring some interesting and unique action set pieces and effects, based on the trailers alone.

Not expecting it to be a hugely groundbreaking movie or anything, but I'm expecting it to be a hell of a lot of fun.

More than I can say about this thing.

1) The story

What story? This is a huge problem with the marketing of this film.

What is the primary conflict and why should I care?

Every good trailer or book blurb should answer those questions for the potential viewer/reader and neither trailer for this film has done that. The only people who will be interested in this are people who want to see a Fantastic Four movie because the marketing people haven't given any compelling reasons for anyone else to see it.

The marketing for this has the exact same problem Tomorrowland had. Tomorrowland showed us that a girl discovers an amazing new world but it didn't tell us anything about the story. Then what happens? Why should we care?

FF is showing us that four people will get powers. Then what happens? Why should we care?

Tomorrowland had a lot more going for it than FF, but if the marketing people can't even hint at an intriguing story, very few 'general audience' members will be interested.

I'm convinced some people are determined to hate this movie without even giving it a chance.
