I disagree. If the movie looks good at comic-con and actual open minded fans decide they like what they see and get excited (and more importantly social media outlets/trades report on the positive buzz surrounding the film from SDCC and word spreads) it will be a huge benefit to the movie that is released in theatres 3-4 weeks later. Ant-Man should also benefit if the fans/press like what they see - and that comes out immediately after SDCC. My impression is F4 would have been crushed at SDCC last year since they probably had nothing ready to show. Just the score alone makes it worth the wait. With music by Beltrami and Glass, not to mention completed SFX/CGI, why NOT make SDCC the place to excite the fans, prove the doubters wrong, and all on their own terms. I am really hoping that is what happens, for both Ant-Man and F4. I can't imagine a lot of people decide that they are going to see a film a year in advance.
disagree all you want.. it's why you don't usually see july opening movies at comic-con... studios find it pointless.. and i agree with them.
look at it this way... what would a film benefit by having about a thousand (or less) people in all H see footage of the film when the film comes out in less than a month from this. Leaves little time for the hype to grow and build... stuff to leak, peoples reactions etc..
look at all the movies that go to comic-con... they're always several months away. why? because it build momentum. People talk, things leak, and the hype grows... Nothing they show at comic con with the F4 would be released on the web (unless leaked) so its actually a very small audience.. with really not a lot of time to build the hype they'd want.
couple that also with the fact the fan base is VERY divided on this film.. there is no doubt in my mind as soon as the cast or trailer started.. half the audience would be booing... especially with the heckling last year at Wright loyalists towards ant-man and the mere mention of the word "Mutant" the hostility to those 2 things pale in comparison to this film...
and do you know what FOX doesn't want? press saying fans booed and heckled this film at comic-con.
it's too risky and the reward is not greater than the risk... so id be shocked if anything more than just billboards or brief mentions of the F4 film are made at comic-con from FOX.
as for Ant-Man. hah.. shows how little you know about the subject..
1) the same film never goes to comic con twice.. and ant-man was their last year...
2) the trailers are all out, the cast is all announced.. their's absolutely nothing for Marvel to show that's not already been seen at comic con.. it'd be a massive waste of money and everyone's time
the only thing you will see at comic con with ant-man is promotional billboards, toys, merch etc...
you are speaking less about reality.. and more about just what you personally want.
