I'm convinced some people are determined to hate this movie without even giving it a chance.

I desperately want to like this movie, but then I see things like this and realize my favorite character of all time is poorly designed, poorly rendered and unintentionally humorous.

Hey look, the Thing STILL has the exact same expression!

I'll be frank, I have no intention of giving this a chance as an FF movie.
Could it be an entertaining film on it's own right? Sure, of course, but as an FF adaption (which I've desperately wanted to see on the big screen since I was a child) this has already failed a dozen times over.
Refer to the gif Willie just posted to see why.

Yep. At the VERY least it'll bring some interesting and unique action set pieces and effects, based on the trailers alone.

Not expecting it to be a hugely groundbreaking movie or anything, but I'm expecting it to be a hell of a lot of fun.

More than I can say about this thing.

I can at least look at it and see that it's an Ant-man movie. Even that's more than I can say about this.

Boy that Pos:Neg twitter ratio is dropping like a big poorly designed rock guy out of a plane onto a tank over and over and over and over and over and over again.

LOL.

Well I can't speak for others but to me the movie just looks bad. Like laughably bad. Fox has done nothing to make me want to give it a chance.

The only single thing I've liked that I've seen has been MBJ's characterizations in the trailers. Beyond that everything else looks like utter crap. Especially in light of what I know this film should look like. If I could pretend it wasn't supposed to be adapting one of my favorite comics I might feel differently but I'm just not able to make that leap. I don't have to feel bad about that. I don't owe Fox anything here.

On the contrary, Fox owes the fans something far better than what we're getting. They should have thought about that when they bought the rights to begin with and again when they were so determined to make this film yet again - minutes before the rights expiration - solely to keep the characters away from Marvel. Is that supposed to generate some kind of good will here? Seriously?

Boom, nail on the head. I can't believe how much resistance there is to this simple, understandable idea.

What crosses my mind (after pantsless rock monster walks by) is that Reed and Sue are supposed to be a couple. You sublimily convey this idea by having them being side by side in shots....unlike as they appear here.

Interesting point, but that doesn't jump out at me. I think the thing that jumps out at me most (after the Thing looking ridiculous) is that the details on Reed's costume make him look very un-superheroish and it looks like he's wearing these:

All I can do at this point is just *shake my head*...I can't seem to come up with anything to say about what I'm seeing.

Thanks for that. Now I can't unsee it. Teller in thigh-high stockings.

I had noticed and thought that too. It looks like he is either wearing boxer shorts or the thigh high boots....in either case its unflattering

But... dark and gritty?:o

It's really not that hard when you hate most of the creative direction. For example:

1) I hate the way they've done Doom. It's the 2005 version all over again, but with an extra-dimensional twist. And trash bags. It's almost like they're determined not to do a straightforward, Latverian dictator Doom.

2) I hate the dark tone and color palette. FF should be colorful. This is not. This is muted and ugly, and the stereotypical "dark and gritty" look and feel that people ridicule studios for using in superhero films. Especially in our post-Avengers world.

3) I hate that Josh Trank (and his defenders) passed off casting MBJ as some sort of progressive, blind casting choice when it was simply him casting his buddy in his movie. Regardless of talent, logic or the source material.

And then, not caring enough to cast Sue with a black actress as well (opting to make her adopted).

4) Scrawny, pre-transformation thing

5) Pantless, thingless, post-transfomation Thing.

6) The fact that this film just looks to be the first all over again. But now with more military, and now dark and gritty. Or should I say "younger" and "edgier"?

I seriously doubt that a majority of the people who see the film will come out of it feeling like they wasted their money.

I also seriously doubt that it's going to be visited with the grneral audience ambivalence you think it will.
Well here's to that "majority" being a huge minority over all.

Negative opinion on this movie from fans is never going to be powerful enough to derail its financial success, especially if it receives critical acclaim in addition to favorable initial response from general audiences.
Says who. As much as people love to use this angle the fact is that Studios want to bring in as many people as possible. Contrary to dismissing the fans that made CBM's possible in the first place, I don't see any of Fox-marvel's films doing Avenger's numbers w/o all of us on board.

I don't believe that general audiences will share your viewpoint on what is or isn't a "shortcoming" on this movie.
Okay and who actually made you the voice of the people? You're on this site with the rest of us telling us our voice or money doesn't mater. But if it doesn't matter then why should we give your post a second thought?

What I want to know is... How can "The Flash" create a much more convincing looking large bipedal creature - Gorilla Grodd - on a CW budget? Where the hell did FOX's money go?

Perhaps they should give Benji his own personal rain cloud (secondary mutation!) so he is always seen in shadow? Just like Schleprock, his colleague on the old "Fred and Barney meet The Thing" cartoon.

Now this is fascinating.

So you think the general audience WON'T be ambivalent toward this movie because...you think they'll share YOUR opinion on how this might turn out?

Because you think they'll share YOUR viewpoint on the positives of this movie?

But on the flipside you think they WON'T share his negative viewpoint on this movie because...that's not YOUR viewpoint on this movie?

That's what I'm getting from these posts.
Exactly...What makes people supporting this film think they speak for the general audience?

The movement at the Thing's waist looks terrible. Why wouldn't any executive look at that and ask why they didn't cover it up with pants? The upper and lower parts of the body look okay but the movement is jerky.

Overall, the trailer shows me that after 4 months they have 2 seconds of new footage to show, and don't expect exciting special effects.

The apparent fact that nobody in any position of authority ever simply demanded they put some pants on the Thing is baffling and concerning. If they let something as obvious as that go through without fixing it, how many other problems have we just not seen yet?

Yeah too much of the problems seem to be of the kind that could easily have been avoided if someone had just looked at it and told them to fix it. Like the pants-less Thing, its an unnecessary change that goes against all previous versions of the Thing, and now all the websites do it bring it up everytime they mention something about the film. Its become a running online joke, and it all could have been easily avoided.

I'm convinced some people are determined to hate this movie without even giving it a chance.

So basically you can't control what we do with our time and money any more than we can control what you do with yours. Noted! :woot:

To be fair, when Benji Grimm rocked up with his Thing Ring in the cartoon, and all the rocks fly at him to create the Thing skin, it's actually kind of stupid that he's suddenly wearing his shorts, as if they rode in with the rocks. So if they're going the Benji Grimm route (sans the Thing Ring), then it makes sense that he wouldn't be wearing any pants. But of course, that doesn't stop him from looking weird with no pants. Or from people making fun of Nekkid Thing.

What crosses my mind (after pantsless rock monster walks by) is that Reed and Sue are supposed to be a couple. You sublimily convey this idea by having them being side by side in shots....unlike as they appear here.

They're supposed to be a couple? Married right? Amazing how this segment shown of the film fails to drive home a preconceived notion that seemingly exists outside of it's own story. Long story short, maybe they're not what you think...yet. Maybe as stated by the production, this is a precursor.
Next we'll be looking at stills of young summers and grey and asking why they aren't holding hands and and making plans in a singled out image.

I really don't get this Thing issue. I mean I get it for the people that have admitted to their intentions as it pertains to this movie. I however see a fantasy creature that looks no less convincing than that walking tree in most finished shots. The comparison to Grood someone made earlier....moving rock creature vs ceaser.

I raise the same comparison questions as to why people can get on board with all sorts of creatures(including that tree again) not wearing underwear yet the buck stops here on something looking 'ridiculous'. Outside of preconceptions of course.

Ben hated to be thought of as a monster and not a human.....so lets strip him of his last vestige of humanity and make him walk around without any clothes like an animal.
