Fant4stic Fant4stic: Reborn! - - - - - - Part 40

My curiousity got the best of me, so I watched a decent stream. The movie in my eyes for sure isn't terrible. It's not great or all that good either. I agree with the common complaint of the third act being awful. Well, guess what? It fricking is. It just seems so rushed and underdeveloped. However, there were some cool elements in the last act. When the movie moves on one year ahead, that's when it stops being good.

The performances were really good in the first 50 minutes or so. If the whole movie kept that quality up, this would be a really good film. Instead, we get a lazy and rushed last 30 minutes. Should have been at least 20 minutes longer with more action.

In general, it's an ok film that I didn't hate as much as others. Wouldn't mind seeing this cast again.

6.5/10

I'd much rather see a New Mutants, X-Force, Excalibur, or even Alpha Flight in a FOX cinematic universe than havimg F4 being crowbarred in.
Yep. The X-Men franchise has numerous other teams they could be making movies about.
Ghostrider and Blade will fit perfectly in the "Strange"realm of the MCU we are about to be introduced to.

I'm hoping for a Midnight Sons movie with them one day.

So that film was so boring last night that I had to go straight to bed afterwards. I was even falling asleep during the movie. I cannot imagine any kids not getting extremely restless for the first hour or so wanting to know when the four are going to get their powers. And then, when they finally do, they'll wish they didn't because they'd probably be disturbed by the body horror. But if they're encouraged to see it out and get to the end, they'll again wish they didn't because the end battle is so awful.

The whole movie is kind of a metaphor for what the defenders of it have been saying about the whole production etc. Wait until the next thing, as if you'll be pleasantly surprised and not disappointed. So here, it's wait until they get their powers, or wait until Doom shows up, or wait until the final battle. Just like it was always argued: wait until the first set pics; wait until the trailer; wait until the reviews; wait until it's released; wait until it's on BR/ DVD; wait until the sequel; wait until the reboot etc.

What's sad is that at the end of the 2005 FF there was a salvagable franchise. Politely replace Story with an experienced director who had handled large set piece action before. Make no mention of any of Dooms arc from the first film and recap briefly his youth and show him sieze power in Latveria. Have Reed turn Ben normal for a minute and then have the procedure reverse and have him emerge in his more familiar comic look done in CGI. Write Reed as strong and confident from page 1 and don't worry about Alba looking so blonde and blue-eyed and just let her be her natural self.

Have them battle one of their rogues gallery near the beginning and then procede with the full Galactus saga---Surfer, Punisher, Watcher and Big G in the flesh. Have Doom observe the whole drama. After playing out the comic version of Galatus' first trilogy, end it with Doom setting his sights on the Surfer setting up the Doomsday saga.

Yes, you have to spend $50 mil more than they did for ROTSS, but if you nail it you have a viable franchise.

I knew in 2007 that the 2005 wasn't great, but I thought it could be redeemed.

They went cheap and killed it.

Then they went cheaper and desecrated it's grave.

If they had Ioan play Reed like he's played almost any other character in any other film or show he's been in, he would've definitely been a strong and intelligent leader. It's almost a shame he actually played him then, because now at his age, more than ever, he's actually more suited to the part than before. His character on Forever definitely was more like Reed Richards than in the Story movies.

I liked it.

It wasn't great, and I went in with low expectations, but I was glad I went. Doom was an actual scary villain whose motivation made perfect sense. The time skips gave the movie a kind of weight I don't get to see in a lot of superhero movies that take place over 1-3 days. Everything up to the trip home from the dimension was pretty much perfect, imho. Little motivational tics were great, all that.

I definitely slows down in the middle and never quite regains its footing. The climax is cliche, like most superhero movies. I enjoyed it as much as I enjoy the climax of any other superhero film outside of the greats.

i seen this last night with free tickets, and i still wanted a ****ing refund

If F4 goes back to Marvel how long before Marvel includes them on the big screen? If ever.

'Fantastic 4' for 'Phase 4' (post Infinity War) would feel like destiny. Maybe have them as the last one before the big event that concludes that phase (Galactus!!).

Will this movie get back its budget?

I offered a reply to that when you asked the same question in the Box office thread. Simple answer based on opening weekend is no. Domestic is a disaster, overseas not much better. Break even target is gonna be pushing $300mil plus ww, so it's hard to see it getting close to that atm..

Does this scene ever happen in the film? I don't recall seeing this:

I can't even be bothered to go back and rewind and look for it.

From what I've heard a lot of bits & pieces in the trailers and TV spots didn't make the cut.

.

^^^ and you're like 1 of like 12 people in the world who want that Reed on screen...

if you honestly think that this many people didn't care for the changes made in this film.. what makes you think everyone is going to accept that version of Reed??????????????????????????

And the legend of the "Trank cut" grows!

Just like the legend of the X-Men/Fantastic Four crossover!

Lovin' it!

This is from the original ending, which appears to be rather difference. Those shots of Ben punching Doom, Johnny and Sue destroying a mountain and Sue seemingly mourning Johnny were from that as well.

The Trank cut---"The greatest story never told."
The Story FF2 cut---"The thinest trank ever told."

The Trank cut---"The greatest story never told."
The Story FF2 cut---"The thinest trank ever told."

Then the Trank Cut comes out and all the defenders find out it is an even bigger pile of crap than the version Fox released :oldrazz:

I know everyone sees something different in movies, but how in the world does Doom's motivations make sense? It doesn't even seem like the writers or Kebbel himself believe the hammy lines he's given.

They aren't intellectually honest enough to admit that if they saw it.

Greatest line from Sunday.
Fox exec.---- "we are STILL committed to this franchise"

That's like Tiger Woods--"I am still committed to my marriage."

Dude, you were never committed to anything but having your cake and eating it too.
Just like Fox
