Fast 8 - Part 1

Tomatometer has launched at 40%. First rotten since Fast 4.

I know its early and we've got PLENTY more reviews but that one consensus blurb that says "it betrays everything fans have come to love about the series" is what I feared since this was announced. I just knew there was no way this could live up to 6 and 7 without going in a radically different direction.

Yet the THR review say's it's more of the same. Depends on which way you look at it.

From what I'm hearing this is like the Spectre of Fast and Furious.

^Heh. I read one calling it the Die Another Day of the franchise.

At this point, a F&F and Transformers crossover needs to happen. A scene with Dom and Optimus discussing family values would win it an Oscar.

The movies have gotten too big. Five and Six were just the right amount of ridiculousness.

My favorite was Five. It had just a right amount of ridiculousness. You could enjoy Five as fan of first 3 movies and fan of 3 last ones. It just walked the edge. Six already took step it further as just a fun mindless and crazy action film with parody of what family means.

I got to see this at an early screening last week. I wasn't originally going to go, because I was super sick and my frid (who's father passed away a week beforehand after the fact I invited him to join me) wanted to go. So I went to the theater with tissue, cough syrup, and nasal spray in a Walgreens bag. I reviewed it earlier as well and let me just say these movies are still fun as hell.

For a franchise that went on long enough to release an eighth entry, Smurf Family Franchise is an action sequel that never seems to run out of steam. By now, you shouldn’t enter these movies expecting an Oscar award-winning story or performance because these movies are still dumb as smurf. It's extremely crazy to think that this franchise began with guys stealing Panasonic VHS players to working for CIA groups and fighting against international terrorists.

I was going to go to the NY Premiere last night, but.....I got this hat earlier this week and I was absolutely fine with it.

That critic hated the last two Fast and Furious movies so I don't get him understanding what fans love about the series.

Where do you rank it in the series? Is Dom's turn believable at all?

Where do you rank it in the series? Is Dom's turn believable at all?

BEST TO WORST:

Furious 7 (Honestly the perfect one out of everything. I laughed, I cried, and I smiled throughout with barely any groaning.)

Fast & Furious 6 (when the franchise just went full blockbuster, and it benefitted it for the best)

Fast 5 (It has more of a plot that levels out the stupid action)

Fate of the Furious (Just because its the fourth best doesn't mean its bad it's literally two notches away from Fast 5)

The Fast & the Furious (the one that started it all and still a fun watch)

Fast & Furious (It really reinvented the franchise though doing a lot of the same stuff, but it's a reminder that the franchise is relevant and should be about these guys all along)

The Fast and the Furious Tokyo Drift (Lucas Black can't act)

2 Fast 2 Furious (very generic)

Dom's turn is believable, it makes sense if you paid attention to his life since Fast Five and when it comes on you are surprised in the best way. It's something you don't really see coming.

Cool thanks. Well since the trailer looks like it gave away when he's turning, hopefully it's believable.

My least favorite review so far is from Julia Alexander of Polygon. On Saturday, she tweets that aside from a few glaring issues, it's a good addition to the franchise, then tweets today that it's not very good when she links to the full review. Praises stuff to Heaven, then bashes the same things to Hell in the next sentence.

Given that they showed it in all the trailers, I think we'll all see it coming.

But given that it sounds like it's supposed to feel really shocking in the film, why show it in the trailers? Why not save it?

I'm very much in the dark on what the reason would be.
