Fast 8 - Part 1

However, they can't keep making all the villains and antagonists heroes either. I like Jason Statham, but seriously. Did he have to become a member of the team this time? I mean the man murdered Han Seoul-oh.

Agreed. Haven't seen the movie but these movies have their own internal dumb logic about code and family. Shaw murdered Han. I can see letting him go if he helps bring back Dom but he shouldn't be part of the group go forward. Unless he saved Han's kid, if he had one, as a form of redemption, it just doesn't pass the smell test.

I think we all better be prepared for what's ahead......500 movies starring the Rock over the next five years.

I just saw one TV spot where The Rock told his crew to save the earth.

They really are M.A.S.K now

They're superheroes at this point. If they were still making a lot of cartoons based on movies this would've had one a long time ago.

It's basically been like this since the fourth or fifth movie. Call it the fifth since that one started with the Rock and really cranking up the action even further.

Save the earth?

That is still better than half the franchise.

FF1 - 53%
2F2F - 36%
TD - 37%
FF4 - 28%
FF5 - 77%
FF6 - 69%
FF7 - 79%
The original film and Fast 5 are the ones I like. Fast 5 I kind of love. It amazes me that that film came out of this franchise. Furious 7 probably put me off watching another one in theaters. It just hurt my head after 6 bored me.

I would say Fast 5 is the franchise peak in terms of quality.

I can tell you the stakes are high enough that it makes sense for Deckard's involvement to vindicate him in the eyes of Dom. It's also foreshadowed earlier in the movie during Dom's dealings with another character.

I do agree, though, I wouldn't like Deckard to be part of the family in the future.

The Fast & Furious franchise is basically like Transformers now; they're immune to bad reviews and will make a huge profit no matter what. It's why they're churning them out every year.

Han is not mentioned once in the movie and no one cares about working with the guy who callously murdered their brother.

I think they kind of showed they care. I def agree though they weren't as hung up on Han as they should've been.

I rolled with it, though, just bc I felt saving Dom's kid and bringing Dom back into the fold was an ok reason to have him work with them. I just don't want him to be friends with the group.

I actually had more problems with how they reduced Elena to a wimpy character. She got stuffed in the fridge hard.

Is there an after credit scene? I'm going to see it at the weekend...probably.

Elena was expendable ever since Fast 6.

I remember being bored by that. My sister marathon'd them for whatever reason and I only really checked in for that Dom and Hobbs fight.

Wait, so a Dom has a kid? And that's why he turns, because Charlize has him hostage?

I don't even remember what happened in Fast 6. Fast 5 is the best. I think that's the one the Rock first starred in. 7 was emotional for obvious reasons but it was okay. I think they should have ended it there.

Except 7 made $1.5 billion. Why would they stop at that point? Unfortunately, that's not how Hollywood works.

So what I've been getting is that Charlize is basically The Joker in this movie.

It's understandable that there's a shift in priorities for the team. Like Dom going rogue is perhaps a more pressing issue than Deckard being in the room with them.

I think a bigger explanation required is why does Deckard have a quick change of allegiance at the mere mention of Cipher's name, considering he aligned himself with a team hired by Cipher in 7?

The only reason I could think of is that perhaps he had some sort of contact with Mama Shaw who told him to get his crap together, suggested with that scene in the ambulance.
