My approach at the time was a lot of tough love to assist in getting that performance where it needed to be. As a producer to say, ‘Okay, we’re going to take Dwayne Johnson, who’s associated with wrestling, and we’re going to force this cinematic world, audience members, to regard his character as someone that they don’t know.’”
“Hobbs hits you like a ton of bricks. That’s something that I’m proud of, that aesthetic. That took a lot of work. We had to get there and sometimes, at that time, I could give a lot of tough love. Not Felliniesque, but I would do anything I’d have to do in order to get performances in anything I’m producing.”
Wow, love to see Dwayne Johnson's reaction to this.
Basically Diesel is the reason Johnson gave a good performance... according to Diesel LOL
Vin Diesel Blames 'Tough Love' on His Feud With Dwayne Johnson
Why do you spell it Dewayne?I mean, if Diesel was indeed a producer (I was not aware of that), to me it just sounds like he was doing his job. I also wouldn't be surprised if the "quote" used in the article was paraphrased or manipulated a bit to sound more two-faced. These outlets love drama, especially when "OMG Vin diesel and The Rock dont like each other and blah blah..."
I'm not defending Vin and this could be true and shady. While Dewayne Johnsons is indeed the better actor between the two; In my opinion, Dewayne is not all that great either. I enjoy them both and have enjoyed them in various films I've watched staring them. But they do what they do and that pretty much sums it up for me. Dewayne has more range, but that's about it.
Part of me believes that the only reason why Vin Diesel was chosen to play Groot was because Marvel/Disney was worried GOTG would flop so they wanted that extra star power boost. Same thing with hiring Bradley Cooper as Rocket but that's different since Rocket obviously has more range as a character. Hiring an actor who commands a bigger paycheck like Diesel to essentially say the same line 10-15 times per film just seems like a gimmick. ESPECIALLY since Diesel's voice was modified to sound younger for the majority of that character's appearances. At least they had him dub the character in multiple languages so they kind of got their money's worth I guess.Diesel is a clown who only has the Fast series to keep him afloat since he milked Riddick to death and he could easily be replaced as Groot.
I hope that Groot will be fully grown again the next time we see him. Enough of the baby/teenager gimmick. The thing now is…theres literally no reason to continue having Diesel play Groot. After the first movie, Groot was de-aged in all his subsequent appearances so….you’re paying millions and millions of dollars to Diesel to…say “I am groot” and digitally modify his voice after the fact to sound like a baby/teenager? Thats a huge waste of money imo.
I hope that Groot will be fully grown again the next time we see him. Enough of the baby/teenager gimmick.

Just came back from this and they officially jumped the shark BIG time.
The amount of ridiculous stuff that happens in this film... oh god.
The action in the other ones now looks like normal, grounded stuff compared to this
Lower your expectations, even for a F&F movie. While it was fun, this was just pure comedy.
Great time at the cinema, though!

Now we just need HDTGM's pod on it with Adam Scott.
