Fast and the Furious 9: The Fast Saga

I mean… given that they’re still going up against super spy terrorists (the same one in fact), it’s a little weird to have Hobbs NOT there. Hobbs being there makes more sense than literally ANY of the other main characters, so to have him inexplicably absent is just a head scratcher. It would be one thing if he retired to be a less absent father, but since he’s in his own spin-off series, we know that isn’t the case.

That’s true. He pretty much brought them into the spy world in 6.

Maybe he's too busy fighting the techno-futurist villain organization from Hobbs & Shaw. ;)

( Plot: "The fight with Eteon gets hotter, as Hobbs and Shaw now face a new army of mass produced cyborg soldiers, weaker than the prototype but in large numbers, networked, and brainwashed. Things look bleak, until unexpected aid comes in the form of. . . Brixton, who survived the fight with Hobbs and Shaw, and after getting both his body and cybernetics repaired, now wants revenge on Eteon for their treachery. . . no matter what the price." )

I'm gonna have to stop you right there because you're making too much sense for this franchise. :o

I listened to a really interesting podcast interview with Daniel Casey, the writer, where he talks about some of the various story aspects of the film. When he first pitched the film to Justin Lin, Justin had already written a treatment, and Han being alive was not included. The original idea of Justice for Han was that Han was permanently dead, but Sung Kang would be in the film strictly in flashbacks. Elle, just her by herself, would join the franchise as Han’s surrogate representative.

Let me guess, Vin wanted Han to be alive again.

What Vin wants, Vin gets! Nah but seriously, Daniel Casey says that the person who went heavy on the idea that Han should be alive was Jeff Kirschenbaum. He used to be co-president of production at Universal, and was apparently, out of all the studio execs, the biggest cheerleader for the franchise.

‘Free Guy’ Scores $51M Global Bow; ‘The Suicide Squad’ Marches To $118M WW – Deadline

Universal’s F9 for its part crossed $500M international, becoming the first Hollywood title to do so since 2019 and only one of three (including two Chinese movies) to get to the mark in 2020 and 2021. The international weekend was good for $8.1M in 61 markets which included the opening in Taiwan. There, the movie muscled to $1.8M to best all recent openers. After a strong start in Japan last session, F9 had a slight 24% drop to cume $20.1M. The offshore cume is now $509.3M — in line with Hobbs & Shaw at the same point — and $681.4M global.

Hell, while they're at it, bring back the true manstermind villain behind all of Dom's pain!

iu

They should also bring back Carter Varone. He was kind of a compelling villain. Plus, I’m sure Cole Hauser could use the work.

And why haven't they brought Eva Mendes back except for a cameo at the end of Five?

Apparently Eva Mendes retired from acting. She hasn't been in anything since 2014. How am I just finding out about this now?

She doesn’t need to and knows that after a certain age, the parts aren’t there or challenging. She seems to be having a nice life with her kids and Ryan Gosling

Well yeah, no one needs to but she’s talented and even though Hollywood is ageist as ****, there SHOULD still be roles for women well past their early 40s (because we all know, men keep getting lead roles well into their golden years).
