Any investors in here? What are ya'll's take on Trump wanting to get rid of quarterly earnings reports, opting for only twice a year?

It’s honestly not a horrible idea as it forces companies to focus on longer term strategies. But as an investor, it probably isn’t something you want.

CNBC Judge in Paul Manafort trial says he has been threatened and is now under US Marshal protection

  • Judge T.S. Ellis, the man presiding over the criminal trial of ex-Trump campaign chief Paul Manafort, said Friday that he has received threats about the case and now travels with protection from U.S. marshals.
  • Ellis, speaking at a hearing outside of jurors' presence, also said he has no plan to release the names of those 12 people now deliberating Manafort's fate because he is worried about their safety if their identities become publicly known.
  • The 12-person jury entered its second day of deliberations on Friday in U.S. District Court in Alexandria, Virginia, where Manafort is accused by special counsel Robert Mueller of bank fraud and tax crimes.

Gee wonder why someone would threaten the judge?

And Cheetoh is supposed to respect law and order. He’s now taking away security clearance for Bruce Ohr because of some right wing nut theory.

If this isn’t a blatant abuse of executive power then I don’t know what is.

The thing about the clearance, it was the shiny new toy in order to get his mind off other things. Mainly, Omarosa. He literally ranted about wanting Sessions to arrest her this weekend. Omarosa's book is really, really getting under his skin.

EDIT: And it looks like we may have found out why there may be a cover up over some of Kavanaugh's work in Bush II's White House. He apparently was working on a proposed constitutional amendment banning gay marriage. Definitely a bit of a road block if that came out.

Surprisingly... No. Mom maybe, Dad is the realist in the family.

To be fair, there is a new embarrassing story about Cheetoh practically every day so unless you’re into politics regularly I can see how they didn’t know. People outside of these boards have lives you know.

I miss the days of no drama Obama where the biggest news was him wearing a tan suit.

Seriously. :( Me, too.

And it sounds like Erik Prince is ramping up his lobbying to make Afghanistan his own private fiefdom.

I wasnt being derisive btw. If a significant number of otherwise intelligent reasonable people hadnt voted for this assclown we wouldnt be in this mess. Just interested in your perspective.

I’ve been worried about his closeness with this administration. That man is truly evil and the **** might finally be hitting the fan.

Anyone else see Phil Mudd flip out on Paris Dennard on Jim Sciutto?

I’d link except Mudd curses, lol.

I have to say... I have a feeling that we aren't gonna be happy with how the Manafort jury handles their decision. I suspect there are one or two Trump supporters on the jury and no amount of evidence is going to sway them.

The jury wasn't sequestered and if any had sympathies for the Trump administration certainly right leaning media on cable and online has been working overtime to sow doubt about the prosecutors' case along with the Judge acting far more adversarial with the government's lawyers as compared to the defense and... I think there is a good possibility that despite all the obviously damming evidence that this will not result in a convition now.

I don't want to be pessimistic but I "feel" something off right now. Fox news, talk radio... right wing media is on a full court press, no pun, to undermine this case. Any juror could have been exposed to the reasoning espoused by the President's media supporters and could well hang their hats on the idea that in some manner the government's case is illegitimate in some fashion be it because Gates is "unreliable" to the Special Counsel's investigation is merely political in nature. The judge's conduct and bearing would only support this view and indeed in right wing media has been interpreted as such.

I want to be wrong but I think people will be stunned at the results once deliberations have concluded.

I completely understand you Krypton, and I am getting a bit worried about it as well. Especially with the threats to the judge.

We all know Trump will pardon Manafort even if he’s found guilty.

If he gets off the hook I’d much prefer a pardon over an acquittal. An acquittal basically has the ability to delegitimize the entire Mueller probe in eyes of the few Republicans on the fence about Trump whereas a pardon creates the exact opposite effect. I’ve got a horrible feeling about this whole thing now though and if Manafort walks with an acquittal I’m going to be pretty convinced we are past the point of no return when it comes to what Trump supporters are willing to overlook as long as their team “wins”.

Reminder, this is trial one. Manafort has another trial in DC later.

An acquittal in trial 1 could be a big blow to the Mueller investigation. Regardless of whether it's only the first trial. Public perception is already precarious and an acquittal could be enough to make Trump and his cult push harder against the Mueller investigation. Before we even get to the time of the second trial.

True dat...

Also true dat as well, unfortunately.

I don't blame you guys for being cautious, or pessimistic about this trial. So little of this presidency has went in a positive, predictable way. Plus we're only hearing some of the evidence, and don't know the jurors. So we have to fill in the gaps mentally. Not to mention if this trial goes south it gives Trump, and his republican supporters a lot more ammo to end the probe.

That said, Mueller is a pro. I don't think Manafort would be in court now, nervous enough to attempt to witness tampering, if Mueller wasn't ready. He's taken down big fish before, and there does seem to be a lot of evidence. Granted those big fish didn't have 30% of the country acting like they're fanatical cult members of said big fish. So I'm cautiously optimistic still.

The fact that there is attempted tampering going on show's that the case is so airtight they have to go so far to save Manefort here

I mean Manafort's own daughter think their father is guilty and partly responsible for deaths in Ukraine.

Here is what Manafort's daughter had to say about her father's hand in the Ukrainian Crisis according to hacked text messages
"Don't fool yourself," Andrea wrote to her sister, according to the texts. "That money we have is blood money."

"You know he has killed people in Ukraine? Knowingly," she continued, according to the reviewed texts. "As a tactic to outrage the world and get focus on Ukraine. Remember when there were all those deaths taking place. A while back. About a year ago. Revolts and what not. Do you know whose strategy that was to cause that, to send those people out and get them slaughtered."

The hacked icloud texts are legit.
Manafort did not respond to request for comment from Business Insider. He confirmed to Politico late last month that his daughter Andrea had been hacked, and he corroborated some exchanges while declining to comment on others.

The stuff about the Manafort's sex life in the hacked texts are pretty creepy as well.

Cheetoh takes away security clearance for lifelong public servants based on retribution for their criticism. Then this morning tweets censorship is a bad thing because social media companies are no longer tolerating hate speech and white supremacists.

Either you believe in the free market or you don’t Cheetoh.

I didn't see this get much play today but... This is one that should, but probably won't, have some weight with the average Trump voter:https://www.washingtonpost.com/poli...ory.html?noredirect=on&utm_term=.2eba48e8f042

The Navy Adm. that was the former head of U.S. Special Operations Command says he wants his security clearance revoked as well in solidarity with the other former intel heads and specialists that had theirs taken from them by the Trump Admin.

It's turning into an avalanche.

https://www.politico.com/story/2018...clearances-protest-letter-intelligence-787775

An avalanche of retired senior intelligence officials and spies have joined more than a dozen of their former bosses in issuing a public rebuke of President Donald Trump’s decision to revoke the security clearance of John Brennan, the ex-CIA chief who has become a strong critic of the president.

In a rare public campaign, a total of 60 former CIA station chiefs, analysts and operations officers — along with a former director of the National Geospatial Intelligence Agency and deputy director of the National Counterterrorism Center — declared on Friday afternoon their “firm belief that the country will be weakened if there is a political litmus test applied before seasoned experts are allowed to share their views.”

and this is after the one that was issued earlier...

https://www.politico.com/story/2018/08/16/trump-brennan-intelligence-officials-criticism-782898

A dozen former top intelligence officials, representing previous Republican and Democratic administrations, issued a letter late Thursday supporting former CIA Director John Brennan and lambasting President Donald Trump’s move to revoke his security clearance.

The rare statement from the former officials — including former CIA directors who served under Presidents Ronald Reagan, George W. Bush and Bill Clinton — comes one day after Trump pulled Brennan’s clearance and said he would evaluate clearances for other former intelligence officials, including two who signed on to the pro-Brennan statement.

Any other sitting president would be ashamed.
