FF 2 Rate and Review Thread

My review is available in my sig. I echo the sentiments of many before me- a drastic improvement over the first. It has its flaws, but I wasn't expecting Mozart in cinematic distillment. The comedy was balanced out with action that actually had an epic pulse-pounding effect, a nice improvement for this franchise.

The dreadful dance scene had sub-par effects, but worse than the extend-a-stick effects in the '94 Corman film?
I think not.

yeah, let's replace Michael Chiklis. :whatever:
With who?

Not gonna happen. For any of them.

The Rock

The Rock was born to play the thing. They both have "the" in their names and Thing is made of rock

I would have preferred a CGI Thing like the one in that picture with motion capture/ VA'ing done by Chiklis. Brow issues everyone seems to have aside, he looks like the kind of guy who can take on the Hulk or Thor in that pic. Chiklis in the suit looks...non-threatening. At least, in comparison to other heavy hitters in the Marvel Universe. Plus, the point to Lee and Kirby's intentions was showing the Thing as a monstrosity you're not supposed to feel good emotions looking upon. You're supposed to think about how unfortunate someone has to be to be stuck in a state like that, in a body so noticeably big and unattractive. The concept looks like someone made a golem from ancient times and just finished reviving him into a modern age. That works great for me, as opposed to the less-than-awe-invoking suit they used.

But that's neither here nor there this far down the road...

Saw this movie with Wifey tonight, I thought it was surprisingly good, way better than the first one. I thought Torch was great, Mr. Fantastic was good too. Alba was, well Alba, she's great til she opens her mouth...Chiklis was great as Thing, Doom wasn't any different from last time really.

The Surfer was too me the best part of the movie, he looked perfect, and Fishburne's voice acting was very well done. The effects were solid as well. The story felt rushed to me though, and the movie was to short. Overall a nice lil flick though.

7/10.

The movie premiered here in Southern Africa last night. A few of my friends and I went to check it out - loved it. Yes, it was corny and stupid in some places, but overall it was a FUN movie. Great humor, cool special effects and the family dynamic (he, he and the bickering) was just spectacular. The first movie was a letdown, but this time around they really stepped it up. My only complaint: where Sue dies, couldn't the other have been a little bit more emotional? That scene just felt a little too underwhelming.

Waaaaaayy better than i thought. Even reminded me of the comics. It was still corny crap though. just cheesy overall. BTW why did dooms hood stay on when he was surfing around? We also never got the oppurtunity to hear the fantastic four theme ever. all the music except for the surfer theme were nothing but ambiance.

Michael Chiklis, in my opinion, was the best part of the 2005 one. He brought a heart and humanity to the thng along with a great voice. If the Rock was the thing, (same goes for if ah-nuld or vin diesel were venom) i would put a gun in my mouth.

I'm baaaaaack! :D Miss me? :D :D :D

Hubby and I went to see this last night and we enjoyed it. I will admit I went in fully expecting to hate Fishburne's voice, but when I heard it, it wasn't bad. I'm not saying it's perfect by any stretch of the imagination, but I'm not calling for the heads of Fishburne and the Fox suits on a silver platter either.

I still have no respect for Fishburne or the Fox suits for the way they've treated Doug (yes, Fishburne is responsible too, he did agree to do the job when he didn't have to and he didn't refuse credit either). I still think Fishburne and the suits are all sewer rats. This is my opinion and if you don't like it, tough cookies.

OK hold on a minute, I think Doug Jones did a great job, and I understand watning him to do the voice, but to trash Fishburn like that is just plain immature and petty.

Fishburne is an actor, he was offered a job and he took it. That's business, that's what this guy does for a living, you can't blame him for taking a job that was offered to him. That's plain stupid.

Reread the last 2 sentances of my last post.

I can blame him for letting Fox take his name and splatter it everywhere so they could make more money off of his name instead of refusing credit for a role that wasn't truly his. He could have done the gentlemenly thing, but he didn't. I stand by what I said. It's my opinion and not you nor anybody else has the right to tell me I'm wrong for it.

Telling me I'm not allowed to have my opinion is immature and petty.

...at least we got a glimpse of what a Frankie-Torch and the Super-Skrull would look like on screen..

I'm hoping the Inhumans come next...

Just came back from watching the movie. I was never a big FF reader so i don't know the tiny little details, but I really enjoyed the movie. At times the SFX looked kinda hokey (Reed dancing in the club, the Surfer talking), but the rest of the flick looked great. I like the way that they are developing the relationship between Johnny and Ben and Johnny's over the top greed for money (endorsements and all). I am sorta confused about the whole Doom thing, but it's just my lack of knowledge of the FF mythos. I might have to start reading the book.

The only true negative I have is Galactus.

At least Fishburne's favorite superhero IS Silver Surfer.

Doom thinks of himself as a god and wishes to rule the planet, what's so hard to understand?

Much better than the original. Better dialogue, better story, better action and better paced. But most important of all was that it was just fun and enjoyable.

Wow, I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed this film. I went in with low expectations thinking it would be garbage, but it was much better than the first film. The acting was ok, special effects were great besides some Mr. Fantastic shots, and I loved the story. The Silver Surfer was just awesome. Doom looked great in this movie but didn't have enough screen time and Julian McMahon is just wrong for the role. Doom had a badass look but the voice was just awful, didn't sound threatening at all. The movie did seem quite short with it's runtime and all. Compared to other Superhero films to come out this year, I think ROTSS is leagues above Ghost Rider but not as Good as Spider-Man 3.

Overall, a huge step above the first film. 7.5/10

Oh god here we go again.

Would you have been Happy if his name was the first one listed above the main actors?:oldrazz:

Where in the movie did you get the idea of Doom wanting world conquest? He had no plan beyond getting the board. That's just sloppy. Xavier and Magneto gave a better representation of two people with a history. Doom just came off as an a-hole.

I beginning to think this guy was watching a different movie
