The Rise of Skywalker For those that have seen it, a spoiler thread...

No we don't. This franchise has had enough of needless backstory and spin offs of things we know and have seen. That's the large reason people are getting tired of this franchise.
We dont know and have never seen Palpatines life as a Sith prior to TPM. After this film I'm definitely left wanting more of this hammer horror cult version of the Sith and Sidious. Cast Matt Smith as a young Sidious and explore the Sith cult, culture, and Sidious in a film or series.

It doesn't have to be on the screen. A lot of the new authors are pretty good, actually. And the old Darth Plaguis novel was good, so redo that with the new canon could work.

I think we all saw the Hux betrayal coming for a few movies but I admit I laughed at how realistic his reason was.

That was one of my favourite things in the movie, it was hilariously petty. The only thing I wish they changed is him saying "Kylo Ren." It sounds clunky in the full sentence. Should have just been 'he,' though I understand they probably were worried people might take that to be about the Emperor or Pryde.

The Sith dagger I think was the single dumbest thing in the movie. The whole sequence was bad. Just the fact that coincidentally get sucked into the very place they were looking for, and skirt the issue of the character being dead by the exact place they need to go next being inscribed on a dagger? Way too coincidental and way too stupid for me to accept

I have no idea how that Sith Dagger was supposed to work.

So...whoever created that dagger built the dagger to lead to a treasure map for unstable wreckage for a crashed death star? I mean, I guess it was possible if it was made after the Death Star crashed...

This was easily the worst film since Disney gained ownership. From the choppy editing to the unnecessary overuse of "fan service" if that's what we're even calling it. Not to mention how they ended stories for certain characters or seem to leave the door open for others.

5/10

I was confused about Finn. Someone told me the setup was that Finn has Force powers and that's the payoff to the setup. OK, I guess I can kind of see that.

But it seems like there should've been a payoff there with Rey on that.

I think though if the idea was that "Finn has Force powers" they could've done a bit more with that and sort of dropped in that key Williams music to show that "Yes, he has the Force" and that's Finn's secret.

A couple of thoughts after the 2nd viewing.

- I love the emphasis on Force powers and abilities, force jump, force heal, force siphoning, force lightning, battle meditation. After TFA and TLJ I felt they were nerfing the Jedi powers, not after this.

- Rey is phenomenal, I love her character, that final rise scene might be one of the best scenes in the history of this franchise.

- Really love the fact that Leia is Rey's true Jedi Master and that Rey is unofficially Leia's Padawan. I wish circumstances had been different and we could have seen more of Leia training Rey.

- The line that Luke says, "A Jedi's weapon deserves more respect" is a direct shot at Rian Johnson, IDGAF what anyone says, that's a shot at him.

I know this is a movie with space wizards and laser swords, but how the heck did the emperor get all the raw materials to build so many star destroyers without anyone noticing?

Also, when they showed they basically made another Death Star, but didn’t want to actually call it a Death Star, I couldn’t believe how lazy the script had gotten.

Even though I loved the movie that was a terribly cheesy line but eh...cheesy lines are part of Star Wars identity lol

This film was the cheesiest of the sequel trilogy.
Wasn't Matt Smith supposed to be in this film originally? I completely forgot about that.

Yeah. One rumor was that he was a Sith cultist or a Knight of Ren that Sidious was possessing in the third act. One theory was that originally Matt Smith played the rejuvinated Emperor, but JJ changed it so Ian could play the whole role. Another theory was he would play a young Palpatine in a flashback.

It's also possible he was only ever a random minor cameo like Daniel Craig and Tom Hardy were.

Hopefully we'll find for sure when at some point.

It is hinted at in Canon that Sidious had a contingency plan in the Unknown Regions for a very very long time, long before he was overthrown. He probably had the fleet and bases already under construction during the events of Endor.

So was the idea that Finn is a Force User?
Yeah. But I dont think hes as powerful as a jedi. He just seems to be empathic and to be able to sense some things like which ship would be used as a beacon to lead the other ships out.

Now that Rey is the granddaughter of the Emperor, does that mean that she is royalty? and officially a Disney Princess?
