Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns Animated - Part 1

It's on Netflix if you have it, give it a try?

The Year One movie is not hard to top. But the DKR movie is fantastic. Well worth the purchase.

Controversially I think the Dark Knight Returns movie is better than the book

Ahh the DKR... my absolute favorite portrayal of batman. His portrayal somewhat reminds me of a Clint Eastwood type. No nonsense, straight to the point. Amazing OST, cool animation and scenes that really make an impact.

I bought the deluxe version. :oldrazz:

This is now my favorite Batman film.

It definitely should be in the conversation for not just best animated Batman film, but best Batman film period. It's the one I feel like rewatching most often.

Amazing how something so clearly loved and or enjoyed by an audience can at the same time be met with such contempt at the mere implication of loose adaptation for this next DCU film.
Says alot imo.

Indeed. It's a huge conspiracy and it's completely unfair!

What DCU film is it being considered a loose adaption for? I heard rumors it's version of the Joker may be a big inspiration for Leto's Joker in the Suicide Squad movie.

The DKR is a terrible Superman story. I hope that one day there will be a story where Superman utterly kicks Batman's ass over an ideological difference. Maybe something over what it means to be a hero.

That sounds like the perfect superman story.
They should call it, nice guys finish first.

Something almost every keen writer adds to the batman superman fights is that both character inherently hold back, superman more than the former in the actual meat of it all. In every instance it speaks to the characterization. Sadly it doesn't land on everyone the same way.

The soundtrack for this movie is incredible. I think it hits all the right notes for the context of TDK Returns. 80 dance club elements, as well as Terminator-esque audio landscapes given the dystopian future the story depicts. The main Batman theme also has a military feel as well, which makes sense given TDK Batman refers to his crusade as a war.

I love Hans Zimmer, but it's always going to be a missed opportunity BVS won't have a score by Chris Drake, or a collaboration between him & Zimmer.

Chris Drake definitely deserves to be brought up to the big leagues.

He's also done fantastic work with the Arkham games.

It's only the Superman fans that complain.

There are many signs that Affleck's Batman will take a lot from TDKR, as both Snyder and Affleck are huge fans of the story. The new Batsuit is close to the TDKR suit, and a lot of the characterization sounds similar (semi-retired, crusty/aggressive, estranged from Dick. All rumors though). Also, the armor seen in the comic-con clip was almost a direct adaptation of the armor Batman used against Superman in TDKR.

:up: Would have loved to see Christopher Drake do the Batfleck score.

Excellent. I'm delighted to hear that. I'm glad the movies are pushing the idea that Batman can and has retired in the comics.

You can't find it online anymore, but there was an SDCC teaser for Batman vs. Superman that featured Affleck in the DKR battle armor, staring up an an enraged Superman. So far, things seem to be on track for this film to be heavily influenced by DKR.
