Too bad. Peter Parker and his relationships are the heart of the movies. Take that away, and there's nothing to separate Spider-Man from other superhero franchises (or other action movies, period).
I just think they need to tone it down, not completly remove it. I think just from word of mouth from people I know that make up the GA, they also got sick of the lame ass crying and relationship stuff. It was just too much in the third film. The first two were fine but in 3 they went overboard, not to mention having MJ in distress for all 3 movies is bad writing. I can't wait to see what this new writer they have on board can come up with.
Oh yeah, as for what seperates them from other superhero or action movies. He's a teen who has trouble paying bills, going to school, etc. etc. He's not some cliche big hardcore beat the **** out of everyone type of hero. I think he has enough without the forced relationship woes to be different than the rest.
