FX's The Americans

That was tense. There was 4-5 moments where I was thinking "oh no, here it comes" and thankfully, it didn't. Very pleased, and sad, with how it played out. Thanks for the ride.

That final will haunt me for a long time, loved it. It was nothing too over the top, that one might expect from most series finale yet still gut wrenching. The parking lot scene may be one of my top 5 favorite moment in television of the last couple of years, certainly the best moment this year on television.

Now give them their Emmy's

^^ I just saw that on Twitter and my mind was blown. I'm still numb from the finale. So many looks from Keri, Matthew, Noah and Holly that'll remain with me for a long time.

I'm glad that Henry's well being played a role in the finale. Meaning, he wasn't the afterthought the show occasionally made him to be.

I liked the finale, and I'm glad the writers and producers didn't shot themselves in the foot in a way that would making returning to the characters impossible in the future.

If they wanted come back to it in the future , there are a couple of decades worth of story possibilities to choose from.

We already know what happened to Oleg in the future... ;)

That was a heart wrenching finale! At first I was kind of disappointed that we didnt get any major action in it but this was just pure heart and it left me with all the feels and plenty of questions (but not in the bad way).

I just have to add to my reaction that I LOVED the way they handled Renee. The ambiguity of her character from the beginning to where it left off felt so natural and not at all forced, which feels right because that's the reality of it for Stan. He may investigate her and he may not, and he may never find anything, but he may never REALLY know. So he'll simply have to either choose to trust her or not. And that's probably the way his life will be from now on, not just with Renee. He's gonna question every new friend or relationship he ever makes, even after the Cold War's long gone.

I watched the final twice now

I like how Paige’s last shot mirrored her worst fear.

Renee’s last shot was awesome. It’s a “well, what do you think?” look. :funny:

Philip obviously means well but it’s also cruel of him to tell Stan his suspicions about Renee. Stan will never have peace of mind for the rest of his life. I suspected several times that he was going to kill himself before the show ends.

Nobody really had a good ending.

I think what makes this finale truly great is how it's not a happy ending for anyone. It's a tragedy to the core, but it's very emotionally satisfying. Everyone got what they deserved.

I'm not sure I can agree with that. Henry didn't deserve to be abandoned by his family, nor did Stan deserve the realization his closest friend duped him their entire friendship. Elizabeth and Phillip didn't deserve to get away scott-free.

They didn't get away scott-free. They lost everything.

Exactly they also have gone back to a Russia they barely recognize.

Stan also killed Vlad and had an affair with Nina which led to her getting killed. Not to mention indirectly screwing Oleg over a ton once he left for Russia.

While I do agree that Henry doesn't deserve to be betrayed by his entire family, no one else is innocent in this show. But this show is all about the collateral damage the Jennings (and others like Stan) inflict upon others through their espionage.

Great finale. I also love that we didn't get an answer as to whether or not Renee was one of them; however the look on her face as she watches the FBI raid the Jennings house said it all...to me! ;)

The Jennings aren't really safe. Didn't the guy who picked them up at the end state that "They'll be coming after us too..." to Oleg's father...? Plus, there's bound to be some reprecussions for Elizabeth disobeying orders.

yeah since when has the KGB/FSB ever been like ''You know what the past is the past, lets move on''

I was surprised they even wanted to go to Russia and they didn’t even seem to consider that there will be repercussions for what Elizabeth did. Unless they’re counting on Gorbachev protecting them (even though that doesn’t seem possible based on what the Arcady said).

Yeah, part of me was thinking they were going to get blasted as they pulled into the Russian border.

Ive been thinking about this for a while now and I think this might be the best series final Ive seen.

‘The Americans’ Bosses on Pivotal Series Finale Scene as Exploration of ‘Six Seasons’ Worth of a Real Relationship’

FX’s period spy drama “The Americans” has officially come to an end. And while the audience may not be as used to it yet as Keri Russell’s stoic Elizabeth Jennings, there are a couple guys who are thrilled with how it all turned out: co-showrunners Joe Weisberg and Joel Fields.

“We test drove almost every ending you could imagine,” Fields says, noting that that did include versions that would have killed off some main characters. But this version, which the writers and producers came up with somewhere around the end of the first and beginning of the second seasons, “felt right” and “never shifted even as we moved forward toward it,” he continues.
