im glad tatums on board but 150m budget for a gambit movie seems over the top.

Furthermore, The Hollywood Reporter notes "backend compensation was also a sticking point" in Tatum threatening to exit the project

Money solves most problems

If we're giving Tatum wads of cash then we better get Lea Seydoux or something for that price in the film.

I have a bad feeling about this. 150 million budget for a Gambit movie i just don't see the reason behind that

The budget is scaring me. I'm fine with Tatum though. Also why doesn't gambit have to own sub forum yet?

Last-minute negotiations are common...but sounds like the leak to The Wrap may have indeed been from Tatum's reps. Watch some Entourage to see how this works...

And of course sounds like Tatum wanted less commitment to other films a la Chris Evans/Marvel.

I'd imagine some of this purported large budget will be shaved to provide Tatum with certain "points" of his negotiated deal. Everyone else has said it, but a Gambit movie doesn't need to cost this much (and arguably doesn't need to be made.) I'll be surprised if FOX spends more than $150 mil on this all-in.

:word:

I hope this film is set in the 80s or early 90s, just so it resembles that old cartoon or gives us kind of a noir feeling that was kind of cool in cinema back then.

Fox sees Tatum’s Gambit, a mutant who harnesses kinetic energy, as one of the anchor characters of the X-universe, akin to Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine, someone who would anchor his own movies and appear in numerous others. It’s a commitment that could theoretically last more than a decade. (Jackman has been portraying Wolverine since 2000, for instance.)

This was probably the sticking point. Perhaps Tatum felt like this was a little too much, at least right now.

I don't want Tatum as Gambit for as long as Jackman. I couldn't bear it. This news is just sad. I'd rather have no Gambit film than a Tatum starring one with a ridiculous budget.

No reason why Gambit has to be in many films. Maybe a Gambit sequel and a small role in a main X-movie. I don't think this should be a Hugh Jackman type role. Anyway, I'm beyond excited :)

Now imagine him in many X-movies. For many years. Gambit, X-Men, X-Force...

Gambit films and "main" X-Men films would do nicely. Maybe if Fox makes other "specific" films that he would fit in as well.

Now we have Gambit locked down, hopefully there's truth to the Lea Seydoux testing for female lead report. That would be amazing

Wasn't a huge fan of his casting but I've come around glad to see his officially onboard

Okay now that Channing Tatum has signed a deal! I hope more casting announcement will arrive soon!

I want Lea from Skyfall and Anna Paquin in the film!

I actually like that Tatum signed the deal since I have faith in this film. It needs to set up the Thieves Guild and Gambit's marriage and divorce along with Mister Sinister and the Morlocks before he can get around to joining the X-Men anyway. Plus Tatum was just playing hard to get since he wanted a multi-picture deal with a longer contract and more money for each appearance. If anything this is a win for everyone.

Yeah there are definitely stories to tell. And Gambit doesn't really embody the "X-men" anyway. He's more of a solo guy.

Can someone tell me why they are so concerned with the high budget? Are you guys just worried that the movie won't make its money back?

I don't know about that. Is it because he doesn't have much role in the comics when he is with the X-Men? I also noticed that the last three cartoons (Evo, Anime, WATX) didn't have Gambit in the team... but IMO, Gambit is still more of a X-Men member than a solo hero. I hope we get 1 Gambit solo film and thats it. Put him in the X-Men team after that.
