If Singer doesn't like Gambit for whatever reason, he shouldn't use him (or be forced to use him). Let him use who he's comfortable with.

It isn't like Gambit is this major character that is too important to the X-Men to leave out (like say Charles Xavier).

Actually Gambit is a major male X-Men character. Probably second to only Wolverine.

The X-Men team survives without Xavier all the time. Having a movie without Xavier is actually better because you don't have to explain away Xavier's Dues ex machina powers like every film does

Either cerebro is tampered with or he's captured or he's on drugs etc etc

The best X-Men stories don't include Xavier any X-Men fan knows that

That is too true.

I can't wait for this sexy thriller flick! And I can't wait Gambit to team up with the future X-Men after this!

I hope Doug Liman brings out the best solo X-Men flick to date!

This could very well be the sleeper hit out of the upcoming Marvel films after Deadpool.

With Channing Tatum attached, I don't see how the film won't be sexy... :)

Not really. He's a "cool or "edgy" loner character like Wolverine. But Cyclops, Bobby, Hank, Cable, Nightcrawler, Angel and Colossus are much more major male characters.

I would agree to disagree...

But I'm referring to Gambit as a solo character.

Colossus isn't the best character even in his own family.

Nightcrawler's is very cool and there is a honest debate there

Beast is very cool but doesn't have the same solo appeal IMO

Cyclops is THE X-MAN in my opinion yes but I prefer him as a field leader and he has a stigma from the uninitiated as being a apple polisher

Iceman and Angel are personal favorites of mine but can't compare to Remy thus is just my opinion remember

Iceman > Remy power wise no debate

Cyclops is second to Wolverine.

With the exposure that Iceman got from the movies, 2000s cartoons and videogames, I think him and Gambit are equal. Beast, Nightcrawler, Angel and Colossus are also popular but I don't ever see them as #3 when it comes to the male X-Men members. Anyway, those eight are the most iconic male members of the X-Men besides Professor X.

With the female, obviously, its Storm, Jean, Rogue... then Kitty, Emma, Psylocke for the #4, depends on the medium they appeared in.

I think if Gambit was already in the team like X1, X2 or X3, this push for a solo movie wouldn't even happen IMO.

Gambit works great as a solo since he doesn't rely on the team as much as the others. But I'm not sure I would call him the second most major male character to Wolverine. Top 10 or 15 is a bit more realistic.

I think Iceman popularity would be higher if he wasn't always depicted as a kid

And I wish he wore a skull cap so his hair wouldn't ice up

I just had more fun reading Gambit solo series than any other male X-Men other than Wolverine. Though Nightcrawler had two good runs I liked. I'm not sure Beast Angel Iceman or Colossus ever got an ongoing though.

I like Cable over all of them though.

But Gambit is just more popular with the female fans and that's important too

He had the third most popular ship arguably in X-Men history other than Sean & Scemma.

And IMO he's more fun in the video games than those other guys

But this is all preference good discussion though

Definitely, to each their own. Not sure if we were debating importance or popularity. I'd rather see a Gambit solo then a majority of X-Men as I think his character just works well away from the X-Men and you can do a lot of cool things with the right people aboard the project. But that said, the stories have been able to to survive without him being a significant or major character in the X-Men world for over a decade now. Be it animated, comics or whatever. Not the case with many others.

But yeah. Him, Deadpool and Wolverine have always been the best route to go for the X solos imo.

You could argue Gambit being missing is one of thee reason X-Men comics have sucked the last decade

No one is saying that he should have been forced to use him (although I don't understand why you WOULDN'T include a character that you know is a fan-favourite). But if you aren't going to use him, just say it and don't make up BS excuses like that. It just makes you look like you don't know what you're talking about. That's really all I'm saying.

Scemma? Sorry, I've gotta disagree with you there. Scott and Emma get a lot of panel time these days, but I would never EVER agree that their coupling is more popular than Romy. The fanboy/fangirlism attached to these two is more than I've seen with a lot of other couples in the Marvel Universe. Their popularity may only be surpassed by Scott/Jean as far as the X-men go. Infuriating as it may be for me when I'm trying to find good solo Gambit fanfiction, there's no denying it.

Well this decade had Dark Angel Saga. Which imo is the best X book of all time or at the least up there with the classics. They basically replaced the thief Gambit role with Fantomex. Worked very well. Nothing against Gambit.

I think Romy is cool most definitely I just think Scemma >because of the runs they've been apart of together like Astonishing X-Men

but the kiss between Romy before AoA started might the most iconic ever

Fantomex!?

I'm done lol

If you haven't read UXF by Remender I can completely understand that reaction. But in that book he's one of the most well written and interesting X-Men characters for quite sometime. Not easy to steal the show from Wolverine, Archangel, Psylocke and Deadpool.

I'm a Cable n Bishop fan but I don't like when X-Men use guns it defeats the purpose for me.

I really see Fantomex as a villain instead same with Dr Nemesis I hate their look its just screams villain

And I don't like him with Psylocke

But he's a Morrison creation so I know he's good just nowhere close to Gambit

Have you actually read Dark Angel Saga though? Anything outside Remender with Fantomex just isn't good, and I'm a Morrison fan. The Psylocke and Fantomex relationship through his run is pretty amazing and where this leaves Betsy and Warren in their last moments together is even better. X-Men characterization or stories don't come around like that often. Shame everyone after him ruined it.

I mostly liked the Ribiuc art n cover's... I just don't like Wolverine on X-Force it throws me off when other mutants can get those spots. It was cool with with that sweet Brotherhood team but I really don't like switching Warren constantly from Angel to Archangel

There's nothing wrong with him being billionaire X-Men playboy I know this was to spice him up but the whole life seed thing was just OK to me

I prefer X Force vs The Human Council I think they are arguably the greatest x villain team ever assembled

Issue 18 is literally one of the best comics I've ever read. So agree to disagree I guess.

I wish a writer would come along and give Gambit that kind of attention and character depth. He's needed that for awhile.

I'm surprised some are already claiming (not on here) that Gambit is semi-copying Ant-Man; being a heist film.

My response: Yeah, crazy how the film about a mutant character belonging to the Guild of Thieves will be a heist film.

I liked Ant-Man; but let's not pretend it's the first heist film. There are plenty of heist films; plenty of good and plenty of bad.

Fantomex is awesome. I really hope we get him in the X-Force movie.
