Sequels "Gambit" starring Channing Tatum? - Part 2

They could have done a lower budget movie with some relative unknown that, in the end, would have been a safer, smarter choice, both creatively and financially. Granted it's still pretty early in the game, maybe they can pull this off, but I see no reason to have any sort of confidence in this project.

Shane Black? Interesting. This will certainly rustle some jammies.:yuk:

I'll be honest, after IM3, I hope Black doesn't get the gig, I think he is more suited to R-Rated action movies myself where he can really cut loose.

Shane Black has been attached to multiple things in the past few years, none of which have panned out (yet, at least). Death Note is happening, but not with him, and he was also attached to a Doc Savage movie and a new Predator.

Hiring Shane ack just might be the thing that puts Gambit firmly in the "cancelled" column. :o

If the past films of the directors under consideration are any clue this will be lighter film than main X-Men films it seems.Doug Liman seems to me better
choice out of 3.

We will see if the studio can get any of those directors, I have my doubt's.

I'm not going to go so far as to say this movie is doomed or will "suck donkey balls", but Tatum as Gambit strikes me as out of touch, older film executive thinking at its finest.
"Kids like Channing Tatum, Channing Tatum likes Gambit, bing bang boom."

You forgot one step "Channing Tatum wants this movie to happen".

Doug Liman is clearly the best choice, but he already has a movie coming out next year or the year after. Joe Cornish seems like the best choice. He's a very Marvel Studios-esque choice and Attack the Block was a fine movie. Problem is, Cornish is also a Trank-esque choice. He doesn't have much behind his belt and what he does have is not high budget. If he takes the project, they should reduce the budget dramatically. Shane Black I'm sure will do good, but I hated that scene in Kiss Kiss Bang Bang where RDJ lost his finger. **** that scene. However, he will probably do good as long as he doesn't screw up the lore like he did in Iron Man 3 (which I cared so little about in the first case).

Honestly, I would like Joe Cornish to direct a more interesting comic book based project than Gambit. I still don't get not putting him in an X-Men movie and seeing what happens.

This still feels like a ridiculously risky project to me especially considering that huge budget.

Joe Cornish may be more compentent than Trank was.I really don't know enough about his work to be sure. With Shane Black there were reports that Marvel gave him a lot of control for Iron man 3 under robert downey JR's
pushing.I know Iron man 3 was big hit but i really didn't care for it.and not
just because of the mandarian. In black's pro he defently knows how to do
action sequenzes.

I think Cornish needs to build his way up to a high budget flick. If Liman takes it, good, he can handle a high budget movie. That's the problem with studios hiring Trevorrow's and Tranks... do they remember when Spielberg made his first big budget film? Or do they think that George Miller didn't make an indie movie when they made Mad max. This needs an experienced director and Cornish needs to make more before he should be considered for stuff like this or Star Trek.

Maybe Fox wants a holiday film. GAMBIT SAVES CHRISTMAS.

Well Trevorrow was wildly successful so he's one of the cinderella stories but I agree with your point over all. The problem seems to be that Hollywood rarely makes mid budget films anymore so it's difficult for directors to build experience as they go.

He was wildly successful and I love Jurassic World, but the movie felt like an MCU film. Humor at all the wrong places, something that works for Marvel but shouldn't be in those places for a movie like Jurassic World, which should be serious. "We were talking about him" - cheap moments like that for audience pops. Trevorrow seems to be a yes man if anything, hopefully on the sequel he matures up the content.

You sure you don't think it was like an MCU film because it was starring Starlord?

Fox is approaching good directors and spending serious money on this. They are aiming high, potentially higher than they should. I hope it pays off.

Don't know where I was when everyone turned on Iron Man 3 and Shane Black. Very good film imo.

You don't get the joke?:funny:

Never.

That's kind of his thing.

Never.

Iron Man 3 is a smart, well-crafted film, fanboys be dammed. Gambit would be lucky to have him at the helm.

There is so much online negativity for Iron Man 3, odd because the movie is fine. Iron Man 2 however deserves more negativity because it's awful. And I don't care what Rotten Tomatoes says.

I'm praying the lord for SHANE BLACK. He's a great writer, as well, so he'd definitely be a great match to finetune whatever script they've got. He's got the right grit and tone to nail something such as 'Gambit'.

Exactly! I'd love to see Shane Black take the job, he'd be the perfect fit, and I think Tatum would work well with him.

And, yeah, this should totally be a Christmas movie! :o

Jurassic World felt like an MCU movie? Sorry but I think that's crap, if anything it felt like a Spielberg movie and did it extremely well.

Iron Man 2 is the biggest pile of **** that Marvel has ever released.

That may be your opinion, but if it was a Spielberg movie we wouldn't have these moments of humor for audience pops. Like kids telling their aunt "we were talking about him". There are other bad jokes just littered across the movie like when Claire "toughens up" and Owen is like "hurr durr". Those moments of comedy are usually ill placed in MCU movies too but they don't ruin them. They certainly didn't ruin this movie, just hampered the potential it could have had. Instead of telling their aunt "we were talking about him", the kids should have gone and hid behind Owen from the pteranodons.

The first Jurassic Park and The Lost World had plenty of comedic moments, so did The Minority Report and other Spielberg movies. But at no time did I think? Okay, the velociraptors should've eaten them by now. Hell, I'm surprised the kids didn't start dancing to distract the velociraptors. ?That's how ill placed the comedy was. It was the SAME PROBLEM with Terminator Genesis. "I'm going to find your humour button and shut it off Pops" - Kyle Reese doesn't say stuff like that, Kyle Reese was a serious character who cared about his mission and grew to love what it meant even though he knew there was no way out for him. Difference is, Jurassic World gave the audience what it wanted and is amazing for that. Still, maybe a movie that has a tonal balance and treats situations seriously would be great, Trevorrow.
