Well I was speaking for myself not the general public.
The thing is Singer could have given us an actual X-Men First Class film earlier instead of giving us Havok, Emma, Banshee, Beast who were just wasted. Especially now that the origin film of Storm, Cyke and Jean which we had to wait like five more years turned out to be bad. Then we also got Mystique getting a bigger role which could have been given to the actual X-Men.
Could have, but they became fond of a 60s bond style which turned out to be pretty fun. The assumption at the time was that Vaughn was going to follow up more directly with the cast he assembled. I've always got the impression that this was a factor in him leaving. DOFP had no interest in any of the characters he debuted, and only kept those already established in the OT.
You mean the Hellfire Club? I was fine with Emma... Though I would have preferred that they introduced her in the present days so eventually she would have joined the X-Men and hooked up with Cyclops later on.
That assumption would mean fox demanded them written out these characters when actually he was the director and could have put them in DOFP if he so wished too.
The team chosen for First Class was a pretty forgettable First Class though.
On paper (ie. in the comics), sure Beast, Havok and Banshee should be next in line if you can't have Cyclops, Storm, Jean etc.
I would add Polaris and one of the Proudstar bros, and Sunfire as characters in the comics that would feel at home in a First Class line up.
Unfortunately the Beast, Havok and Banshee we got wasn't terribly exciting. Banshee maybe but that's only because they finally got the wirework to look right.
But then you (Vaughn/Singer) botch your reasoning for not having Cyclops, Storm and Jean by making them cameo in Cerebro...
On the Brotherhood side. Emma as a member? Not terribly excited for that. Azazel? Sure why not. Riptide. Friggin Angel? Buh-bye. lol
So in summary, I'm glad this "First Class" was quickly forgotten. Ditto on that Brotherhood lineup.
That assumption would mean fox demanded them written out these characters when actually he was the director and could have put them in DOFP if he so wished too.
No the assumption is that Fox/Singer didn't care about those characters and saw fit to boot them as soon as possible, which is consistant with the franchise.
Robert Sheehan was the first pick for Banshee. He is actually irish and a great actor. If he'd been able to do First Class, I would have been wanting to see much more of him.
Again the assumption would be Vaughn was forced to write them out which i doubt is the case, even if FOX wanted certain characters involved Vaughn could easily have found a place to put those other characters just like they found a way to include havok
Again, no. Fox didn't need to force anything. I'm suggesting their vision of a sequel was different to Vaughn's, who was originally confirmed to return with the cast he assembled, even later mentioning he had plans to cast a new young Wolverine. Vaughn doesn't ever need much pushing to jump ship, and didn't have any loyalty to the previous films, so I'm assuming he quickly lost interest in where DOFP was going. He left X3 because he didn't feel he had enough time and also because he was working in someone else's universe.
Well he said the reason he left DOFP was because the idea for a secret service movie was brought up and Vaughn wanted to do it so he asked fox if they could push back DOFP till he was finished with Secret Service, they said no so he left the project, which is actually similar to what happened with Singer and X3, he asked fox if they could wait till he finished superman returns and they said no.
The idea for wanting to do secret service before X-Men was that Millar and Vaughn were aware there were other spy movies in development and they wanted to get secret service out as soon as possible before the others were released.
I don't think vaughn was that attached to those other characters just like when some thought Bryan was instantly gonna be more favorable to the OC then the FC cast.
That may well be all there is to it. I have no reason to doubt his comments as Vaughn always appears to be pretty honest.
It's just the way the series moved after Vaughn left has me thinking about his mark on it all, and I think him leaving was always destined to happen with Singer's presence very much there. It was Singer's baby, afterall. Certainly glad to get the DOFP we got. Might have be fun to switch over again and have Vaughn's "Apocalypse" in hindsight though.

Don't have a name but had a third source tell me a certain project has found a new director.

I actually think Vaughn wanted to do the decade skip though. I'll need to check again but I think it was this bold idea he had in terms of doing a time skip. He might've retained the cast more and recast Wolverine, but at the same time I also think he would've done something slightly similar to what we got in DOFP in the end. (Though perhaps in another film before DOFP since he initially mentioned it as the end game)Again, no. Fox didn't need to force anything. (See X3, Thor, etc). The key plot of stopping a mutant from killing someone historically significant.
Magneto references the JFK assassination as sort of an easter egg to what would have been Vaughn's sequel. The First Class at the time would be facing Magneto's newly formed Brotherhood.

Singer and Kinberg added the DOFP elements, given those were rejected back in the day.
From this supposed production history, which I found via 4chan and keep referencing. Is that an assumption or is there anything to back that up?
It's pretty conventional amongst trilogy sequels; that whole bigger and better but the overall set up is still very reminiscent of what directly came before. Like that's the one thing I absolutely love about this trilogy in that each movie feels so different from each other yet still within the same world.I mean the overall set up of good guys and bad guys in the FC ending would basically just be FC again.

Here it is, I was right. Vaughn wanted the decade skip (and one more into the 80s) and then do DOFP at the very end of the trilogy. But yeah, I do remember him discussing the FC sequel being a more straight forward film before Vaughn did the inevitable DOFP.
