Okay, I know some folks are thinking with Ellaria and the Sand Snakes killing Doran and Trystane that it feels like all the Dorne stuff from last season feels like a waste, but I think there's a possibility we're not considering.

What if, on the show at least, Doran Martell and Varys have been working together this entire time, with the goal of putting a Targaryean on the throne? In this case, it happens to Daenerys. We all know why Varys wants this, but for Doran, it's revenge against the Lannisters pure and simple. But of course Doran, unlike Oberyon, is far more prudent, less direct, and patient-- qualities of someone who thinks long term. Which is what Varys has been doing in King's Landing all this time, helping to create the conditions in which the Lannisters would self-destruct, allowing for Daenerys to come in and take over. If Doran and Varys were in cahoots, then Doran would know all about this, hence why he seems so "passive" even over the death of Oberyon.

However, with Varys out of the city, he needs someone else the finish the job. So he agrees with Trystane betrothal to Myrcella because that puts him right inside the Lannister household and on the Small Council, where he could easily act of Doran's spy. But he also has to have somebody in King's Landing to turn the people against the Lannisters so that when Dany arrives with whatever army she has, combined with the army Dorne's, and with King's Landing in disarray, the people would welcome them as liberators. And who could Doran send to cause such dissent against the current royal house?

How about the High Sparrow?

But of course, Ellaria didn't know about any of this, so her and the Sand Snakes killing Myrcella, Doran, and Trystane, they've now potentially jeopardized years worth of careful planning. Just a theory, mind you.

Considering how the show has handled Dorne across the board, I seriously doubt that they have anything that clever planned. And it still wouldn't justify taking away pretty much everything that made Dorne interesting and unique in the books, or butchering Ellaria's character to the point of being unrecognizable (and turning her into such a cartoonish villain essentially), or wasting Alexander Siddig, etc.

Oh and how did the Sand Snakes even get onto the boat, they were still on the dock when it was leaving last season? Are they teleporters or something? And if they're suddenly back in Dorne next episode, then I'm really going to face-palm.

If Stillanerd is correct that Doran Martell in the books wanted an Targaryen to the throne, then we should learn about Visery's marriage pact sooner or later this season.

lol look a few pages back, we figured out the sand snakes and their magical traveling capabilities

Did anyone else roll their eyes when we saw all of Mereen's boats burned? Have the Unsullied really been thinned out that you couldn't have a few loyal guards there? I'm guessing it's Yara and the Ironborn who will take Daenerys to Westeros.

Well, if my pet theory that Daario is king of the harpies actually pans out, it makes sense he'd want to keep Dany in Essos. She's his weapon, and losing that would leave him in a potentially precarious situation.

I like that, my pet theory about Jorah is that he's this show's Victarion Greyjoy and will have his stone fist cured.

An ok opening, which probably suffered by trying to cover too many "previously on...." moments. I honestly couldn't give a **** about Margaery Tyrell, while the two minutes they gave Arya was pointless. The Mereen and Dotraki stuff weren't pressing matters either in my opinion.

So all we end up with, in regards to the storyline that they've milked non stop for the past nine months, is two scenes bookending the episode.

The Iron Islands, Riverlands, Sam and Bran arcs aren't going to make things any easier to endure. They really need to trim the fat and make for a tighter story.

"Well she won't be sailing to Westeros anytime soon."

Should be the series slogan.

The blood stain where Jon was laying looked like dragon wings.

Imagine if they opened the season with ironborn ravaging Oldtown and the Reach with mad dragons, a self-proclaimed Aegon Targaryen leading his armies to war against the Lannisters in King's Landing while in the North a vengeful Jon leads the wildlings against the Night's Watch and those that are a hindrance to him in the Long Night.

I also saw Venom in the blood stains.

I honestly don't see anything, but it was incredibly weird how Davos stared at it.

I thought so too, but maybe he was trying to see how badly Jon had bled out?

I thought we'd see some smoke or something lol

Anyone else get a Lady Stoneheart vibe from her? lol like her 400 year form seems like what LS would look like now :funny:

Soooo...since Brienne is sworn to Sansa, what do you think will bring our knight-errant back down into the Riverlands? The only thing I could think of is correspondence between Sansa and the Tullys via raven. That can't be right though, because we see Brienne in the Lannister camp...

I hate to say this... because it is ignorant... But if Sansa goes back with Littlefinger and is safe... she could send Brienne to negotiate with Jaime...God I hope that is not the case and D&D don't ruin things more. It is possible, but unlikely... It's just that Roose randomly mentioned how he betrayed the crown etc... Mentions a lannister army... the closest Lannister to him this season will be Jaime.

to be clear... none of this is theory... just tossing out thoughts because when you look at it, its possible.

This was me. I kept looking at it, thinking what am I missing? :(

Maybe. Treating with Jaime for the Tullys? I could buy that.

Lannister Army - Last season Roose wasn't concerned about them coming because of winter. But Littlefinger was goading Cersei on into having an army march on Winterfell after the dust from Underwhelming Bowl settled. I think this little bit could've been fixed if Roose were worried about Littlefinger's Vale knights. I think the Vale knights might manage better in the snowy north than the Lannister knights.

Slightly, I do remember a manip of Fairley just looking like an old crone so in that regard, Mel's true form did make me think about Stoneheart.

Stoneheart to me though has to be stuff of nightmares, with skin literally decayed and hanging off, and as messed up as it sounds but I saw someone say maggots coming out of her wound.

Most of all, she has to have the look of a woman full of just one thing: hatred.

a shame she didn't claw her eyes and and talk to 'ned' in the show... not complaining... the show did it great.

That would be awesome. Seeing Jorah turn into one of those stone men would be a tragedy of Dornish proportions.
