What kind of bores me is like what the White Walkers are doing exactly and why they are waiting? They've been building up this threat of the White Walkers for years, I'm not understanding the hold up.

Could have something to do with the size of Westeros, the lateral movement of their army from west around the Fist then eastwards to Hardhome (as they thoroughly and systematically scour the land of living things), and their pace:

Probably waiting on the humans to finish supplying them with an army of shock troops.

I mean did they not slaughter over half of the Night's Watch at one point?

Also they were already able to go past the wall earlier in the show were they not?

I don't see how there's any stopping the White Walkers.

The fact of it is - we don't know yet. Bran might have some idea; back in book one the three-eyed raven brought him to the Heart of Ice. We don't know what he saw there, but it spooked him good. I imagine we'll get a clearer picture in either TWOW or ADOS.

We haven't seen them go past the wall as of yet.

It is worth noting that the White Walkers didn't present themselves as a threat until after the humans and children of the forest had their wars - wars in which the children were the aggressors.

Mormont's expedition North led to an encounter around the Fist of the First Men -that's not near the Wall.

If they are ready to head south from Hardhome now, then Eastwatch should be up next...

"Dead things in the water" with someone else talking about "the dead dancing in the dark" = White Walkers on the move.

And we dont know if they can cross the Wall. Its apparently got magic in it that may stop them. So the Wall probably needs to come down at some point. And we dont really know if Winter happens because of the White Walkers or if the White Walkers can only move south when it is winter.

There is the magics of the Children and Bloodraven and R'hllor to consider as well. Those three magics may be making the White Walkers hesitant as well.

Remember when the Wights ran into Bloodraven's tree? The magic controlling and animating them broke and the wights broke apart. Perhaps something similar will happen if the White Walkers attempt to move their army over the Wall.

In short, there is a number of unanswered questions. Its probably a bit more complicated than the White Walkers walking south non stop at top speed like a scourge when they please.

Then where was the White Walker in the first episode?

First episode of season 1?

Within ranging distance of the Wall. Probably just a scout or one they send out to gather dead. They send some out to gather Craster's child sacrifices. Makes sense there would be scouts. Plus the Night's King and his commanders were at their fortress until at least half way through season 4. So the batallion that struck the Fist wasnt the full army that moved south with the Night's King.

Maybe the white walkers are racists

You know what bothers me about that... It SEEMS like it was on the south side of the wall... because in order for the guy Ned beheads to get to Winterfell... he had to go back through castle black... lol

Also, apparently episode 4 is called 'Book of the Stranger'

When the hell are Euron and Ian McShane going to be on? It's definitely not this Sunday by the looks of it

edit: nevermind just saw pics of Balon and Yara from ep 2. so maybe Euron this sunday?

There are ways to get over and through and by the Wall other than going through Castle Black.

Plus, we know they werent on the South side of the Wall because the camp and people they find slaughtered are Wildlings, and they are North of the Wall in the book.

In the show... you either go through castle black, eastwatch, or the shadowtower. all which have men. He surely did not climb the wall.

I know they were north of the wall in the show and the book... im just pointing out how easily it can get confused.

What about the Nightfort, or wherever Sam and Gilly met Bran and co?

But those arent the only fortresses at the wall. Even in the show. He could have went to one of the abandoned ones and crossed there.

Its also possible he went to one of the manned castles and told them he was ranging and stayed with them until night and then snuck away south of the wall. They wouldnt have known that he was running south and they would have had no reason to be suspicious of him. They would have seen a brother in need and taken him in.

Or there is the possibility he did return to Castle Black said wildlings killed the other men then snuck out at night.

You're just reaching now man lol... im not even arguing about this im just saying i can see how easily it can get confused. He sees walkers... then is right outside of winterfell.

though it does show them going beyond the wall... someone who hasn't read the books may not know that.

as for the abandoned castles.. i guess none of the 100,000 wildlings thought to check those out :o

The wildlings **** bears, so they're probably not the sharpest bunch.

Maybe him returning at episode's end, though the title would also favor Theon setting sail for the Iron Islands.

Well Balon is only in one episode I believe... so... if the bridge scene is happening ...

and Wildlings... can climb the wall.. but not check empty castles for a safe easy way through lol... you'd think Mance would have been all over it.

So it looks like Tyrion is unleashing the dragons this week. What do you all make of it? I don't see how they're supposed to contain them once they're free - and it seems pretty reckless tbh.

i just think its funny the dwarf is going to be in there alone and free them when Dany couldn't even get near them.
