Oh, I thought that was what the title was referring to. Wonder what it will be about then.

It could be referring to something as "mundane" as snow in King's Landing.

I'm only half joking.

I'm expecting the Maesters at the Citadel to declare that Winter has officially started at some point in the finale. Maybe that's what the title is referring to.

I'm hoping that if snowfall is part of the big shocking finale image, they include someone either looking at or audibly noting a dearth of supplies, so the full impact of a multi-year winter without food hits people.

Watched the Kingsmoot again. How did this go down in the books? Was Victorian and any other Greyjoys involved?

It's pretty different from the show depiction,Theon was absent and believed dead as well. There were more candidates for King like Victarion and a few non-Greyjoys, Aeron was basically doing his best to prevent Euron and Asha from getting elected and the ceremony took place at night by torch fire inside the skeleton of a dead Sea Dragon named Nagga. It ended when Euron Greyjoy came onto the scene displaying his magic and promising the Ironborn that if they followed him they'd be feast like the crows after a battle and conquer Westeros, and then the world.

Scroll down to "Recent Events" and read that.
Great, thanks for that. Sounds like Victarion was the significant one missed, cutting the others seems to make sense given the time the show has. Good to have that background in the books and I of course don't know but from other forums I've eavesdropped on, it seems like not having that character is a big miss.

Thanks. I think I read that you were disappointed with it. Were most book readers disappointed as far as you know?

I think so. I mean some book readers don't like the Greyjoys, which is fair, because they're terribly brutal and cruel, but I think most who at least tolerate the characters thought the scene was dissapointing in comparison. The supernatural aspects and the ceremony inside the Sea Dragon skeleton were great visuals that would have been very memorable if the show included them.

holy crap! [blackout]mad king[/blackout]

No need to downplay supernatural elements any more. Can understand why they might have done that early on.

George finally read his Aeron chapter from TWOW: The Forsaken

- Euron has a suit of valyrian steel armor
- Aeron is given shade of the evening several times throughout the chapter. He has visions of Euron on a throne of skulls surrounded by dwarves like Dany saw in the HOTU. His next vision is of Euron on the Iron Throne, the thrones' swords impaling several of the gods. Dwarves are fighting and ****ing around it. Aeron sees a tall woman beside Euron with hands of white fire. His final vision is like the second, except instead he sees a half-human half-kraken beast on the throne, and there's sphinxes, dragons, and krakens bowing to Euron.

- Euron is collecting priests of the world's various religions.

- Euron's having his mutes lash the priests to the ships' prows.

-Aeron ends up lashed to a prow.

Mad King flashback! Benjen! Blackfish returns! (Littlefinger wasn't lying)

The Dragon represents the Targaryens. The Kraken represents the Greyjoys. Who does the Sphinx represent?

You forgot to mention the part where Euron makes jokes about having raped Aeron and Urrigon as kids, and killing Harlon, Balon and Robin :oldrazz:

And further confirmation that Euron may have once been Bloodraven's chosen replacement, hence his blood red eye.

The Sphinx is an old Valyrian creature of myth, but it's often used in reference to Sarella Sand and Marwyn the Mage at Oldtown.

Thanks for clearing that up, Roose.

This next Hype awards season I'm nominating you for Most Helpful Hypster for all the help you are on all things ASOIAF.

It sounded like a horror show. I'm wondering about the woman with hands of white fire. First thing I thought of was the female Other that seduced and created the Night's King.

Jesus Christ... please don't... He got "Smartest Poster" last year and I really don't want the little ***** to get a bigger head than he already has.

It's one of my few redeeming qualities. I drink and I know things :cwink:

The theory that makes the most sense, to me at least, is that Euron was originally Bloodraven's first choice to replace him, given that the Greyjoys are another great house of almost entirely First Men ancestry. But something must have happened to him when he was Bran's age to turn him so utterly mad and Lovecraftian. It could be that the Night's Queen corrupted him in some way and that he's the WWs ace in the hole South of the Wall.

The chapter seems to confirm that Euron is a major player going into the endgame. There's a theory floating around reddit that Euron'll set off the magical Chekov's Guns down in Old Town, turning it into a Doom of Valyria 2.0

What are the Chekhov guns in Old Town? I vaguely remember the goings on at Old Town and the Citadel being oddly suspicious, but I can't recall much from when I read AFFC & ADWD.

I hope we see the Mad King flashback in full eventually. Great to see Benjen back. Hope we get a bit of time with him.
