Honor and Stannis Baratheon don't really go together.

The honor of Stannis Baratheon.

I guess the judges in Salem were people of honor as well.

Well maybe Alan Dean Foster can explain that to you in the novelisation.

No explanation is required. If you want to believe that, it's a pretty warped, twisted view of honor.

The Pirate Kings of Uncharted 4 had no honor. They were all greedy and paranoid. And they allowed that paranoia to consume them.

No honor among thieves.

Stannis Baratheon is not much different.

Well... He doesn't burn Shireen in the books.

Well for starters this is the book thread. GRRM is quite prone to point out that the Stannis Baratheon of the books is different from the show iteration and has said on a number of occasions that he views Stannis as just and honourable man, someone worthy of the throne.

In the books Stannis has never killed anyone innocent, they're all people that by the laws of Westeros would be executed anyway, so your comparison is idiotic.

I'd hardly call having his brother assassinated honorable and just.

His brother was breaking the law. Stannis by right of law was the successor. His brother was executed for treason.

Stannis cheated on his wife. so there is that

but without the necklace though.... i don't know...

If my brother and his friends came at me with knifes and I'm armed with a gun, and I give him fair warning, offer him forgiveness and a place in my life, and he still insists on trying to kill me, it's not dishonourable of me to shoot him before he can end my life. Renly had every intention of killing Stannis in the books, and even makes jokes that he'll try not to mutilate his corpse too much.

Besides, Stannis in the books had no knowledge that Renly was killed by Melisandre. She told him that she had seen Renly's death in the flames and at some point later had sex with Stannis at some point, but there's no indication that he was aware of what happened. He never admits to killing Renly, even when pressed by his closest friend.

Renly was himself, a vainglorious warlord who starved half the realm and fully prepared to usurp the Throne even while Robert was alive. The show glamourised him quite a bit, but in the novels he was an utter bastard who happened to be charismatic enough to hide his greed and ambition.

That not only makes him a brother killer, but a liar! Or as Edge and Christian would say, TLC. Totally Lacking in Coolness.

Stannis never lies, that's the point of his character. He's too honest and blunt in comparison to his charming brothers.

Edge and Christian should consider themselves lucky that Vince MacMahon doesn't cut out their tongues and genitals and nail them to the Wrestlemania sign.

Renly abandoned Ned Stark at the end of the first book so he could regroup to start a false claim on the throne. If he hadn't Ned would've had sufficient force even in light of Littlefinger's betrayal, to in the worst case scenario escape King's Landing if he couldn't place Cersei under arrest and the War of Five Kings would be the War of Three Kings, since Robb and Renly would be under Stannis. There'd be no Red Wedding, no sacking of Winterfell and a united force of good waiting to defend against the Others and whatever Euron has up his sleeve.

Furthermore disputing George R.R. Martin's thoughts on the matter is lunacy akin to disputing an assertion by Bob Kane and Bill Finger that Batman doesn't drink blood by citing the Red Rain series. Jesus people, do your research.

Bob Kane said Batman & Robin was the best Batman movie too.

One's an opinion on a film, one's a factual statement a character's actions. He doesn't drink blood in Batman & Robin either, does he? Just stop already.

If George said that Show Stannis and Renly were his favourite depictions of the characters, then the comparison would be apt.

I know George personally, great guy, tremendous. Huge hands. He hates show Stannis and wants to bomb the **** out of HBO.
