Game of Thrones - Book Readers' Thread - - - - - - - - Part 25

Glad to hear there is some more evidence that that does happen. Such a great way to end the season.

yea its a great way to end A season... but season 7? only 6 episodes left... i'd prefer it had longer... id like to see the [blackout]walkers attacking all sorts of areas south... but it seems like most of the final battle will be in the north... unless they are pushed south early on and it all takes place at KL[/blackout]

that's one reason i've been hoping for extended eps

They should spend the remaining budget crafting a spin off about Aeron, who seems to have vanished from the franchise completely. Such a bizarre inclusion...

If the other leaks are true, the start of the season sounds like crap.

Whenever he talks about Winds of Winter, I just get depressed because I know he's nowhere near being finished.

Martin was talking about the book awhile back. If memory serves, the book actually had a spring 2016 deadline, which he missed. The publishers were putting the heat on him and he finally had to say, look its done when its done.

I said a year ago I thought the book was possible sometime Jan - June 2017.
Doesnt look that way. :csad:

I remember there was a time when I thought a late 2016/early 2017 deadline was possible. He had so many left over chapters from DwD, I thought he could do it.

Roose has convinced me it won't be out until after the series finale.

Well if you look at the past few years there's been a steady October release, be it The World of Ice & Fire and the collection of the first three Dunk & Egg novellas. What's on for this October? A fourth Dunk & Egg tale right? So I figure it's October 2018 at the earliest, which puts it after the series close.

I've been clearing the books and just about finished the 3rd.

I'm shocked to say I actually liked Catelyn (bar her hatred of Jon) and kind of only like Tyrion (it's incredibly difficult to withstand his bitterness but of course it's all understandable and more importantly realistic in comparison to the almost saintly show counterpart).

And Littlefinger's insistence that he took Cat's virginity IS SO ****ING CREEPY.

You're in for one massive surprise (non show moment) at the end of book 3 if you haven't been spoiled by book spoilers.

I'm aware of all the major points up to the last book (a reason why I put off reading them for so long, I thought it would effect my enjoyment but it hasn't, the books have their own thing going).

When I watched the Red Wedding I was so shocked as what I thought the story was about turned out not to be. Ended reading the wiki of ice and fire for hours. Reading about Stoneheart was a mind ****. I would have really liked to have seen how that played out on screen but I understand the reasons why it didn't.

Stoneheart confirmed for season 9

I'm still bitter about no Lady Stoneheart on the show.

I started A Feast For Crows and the Cersei chapters are insufferable in a good way. That slap down from Kevan is probably one of my favourite moments in the series thus far.

She has famous sexual encounter in one of those chapters that was unfortunately cut from the show.

I loved Cersei's AFfC chapters. The level of bat**** is amazing.

I was bummed too, but since LSH hasn't really done anything of note in the books, and if she ends up not doing anything all that inprtant to the main storyline, I get why they did it.

Strange strange decision from GRRM if she doesn't have a significant part to play.

Even if she doesn't do anything big, that was still so shocking it should've been in there on principle. I didn't see that coming at all, and it managed to make the Red Wedding even more horrifying.

There's gonna be a Red Wedding 2.0 in the Riverlands, count on it.

interview with Broadbent...

The casting of Jim Broadbent was the major announcement for season seven of Game of Thrones, with the confirmation of the Academy Award-winning actor coming late last August. The announcement didn’t provide a name for his role, unfortunately, leaving fans to speculate over the possible parts for such a high-caliber performer.

In October, a new possibility arose when Watchers on the Wall learned from a source that the ASOIAF character Archmaester Ebrose will be appearing in the upcoming season.

As we noted then, “Ebrose is a maester of the Citadel, where he is mostly mentioned in conjunction with his area of expertise – healing- and his distinct silver mask and rod.” Ebrose is not a prominent character in the novels, only appearing briefly and being noted for his “soft voice and gentle hands.” But his skill at healing is so remarkable that the former maester Qyburn, in discussing his own skills, says that he’s “as skilled a healer as Ebrose, but aspired to surpass him.”

The mystery of Broadbent’s role is all but gone today as the actor has confirmed, in a new interview with Screencrush, that he will indeed be playing an archmaester on Game of Thrones.

“I’m a maester, an archmaester. I’m an old professor character,” Broadbent tells Screencrush. He confirms that he’ll be appearing in five episodes. He also says, “I did sort of one major scene in each episode.”

Furthermore, Broadbent says that his scenes were shared with Samwell Tarly (John Bradley).

We last saw Sam at the Citadel in the season 6 finale, being admitted to the great library. It sounds as though he’ll be learning from Broadbent’s archmaester (who is most likely Ebrose) in season 7. If Ebrose shares his book character’s healing skill, then we suspect they’ll be meeting up with another major Westerosi character, one who is very much in need of a medical miracle- Jorah Mormont (Iain Glen).
