i figured salt would surely have to do with the iron islands.

Maybe. The Davos/Melissandre angle is interesting to me, but unlikely to be the case in the book since Davos is nowhere near castle Black in the books.

If it isn't, the Iron Islands could be connected to the water in the legend of Azor Ahai, while the westerlands representing the lion. Though I can't think of any character that fits that.

Theon's POVs towards the end of ADWD are just gold. Wyman Manderly....what a mad bastard. Hope he's ok.

Lads, one of the main things I took from the books is that I always heard people making a big deal about geography, yet here's just a few examples of me thinking people are overstating that issue:

Wyman Manderly getting from White Arbour to Winterfell in no time.

"Abel" and his washer women getting from the wall to winterfell.

Boros Blount getting from KL to Dorne without even a chapter spent on it.

I just don't buy geography as a problem. A lot of people seem to think Stoneheart won't be involved in Jon's resurrection because of geography. I'm not convinced.

That's another beef I have now that I think about it. In the books Theon always seemed like Theon to me even in his most mucked up moments.

Whereas in the show Reek seemed genuinely like a completely different person to Theon.

I love idea of it being a split personality with Theon, but after the escape and the Winds chapter, i think its less likely.

I can't say I agree... Alfie did a great job portraying Reek as D&D saw him, but in the books a see a more beaten man... remember his ****ed up teeth where chewing was agonizing. But he did well with what he was given.

It's hard to portray inner monologue on screen... but the Reek chapters, imo, are the best chapters GRRM has written. truly haunting.

I had a dream/vision not to long ago that the winds of winter was trending on twitter (which is kind of weird bc i have only ever read the 1st GOT book and not in a rush to read the others) but yeah it was trending bc the release date had been announced. I don't wanna give anyone false hope but usually 9/10 times my dreams/visions are right so i think the release date for the book will be released very soon t: #WindsOfWinter

I think the issue with geography only becomes truly relevant at the point the story's at now. We see that with Winter in effect travel in the North becomes sluggish and almost nonexistent.

Reek has displayed more intelligence, comprehension, love for the material, analytical skills, in fact, more of every positive fan quality than you could ever see in your visions. So take his path, you could learn from him, challenge yourself, give back to the fan community. Or stay on your path, keep being a saddening, sentient Spotify playlist who adds nothing to this fandom, this rich beautifully constructed world, but mocks anyone out of small minded jealousy. We all know what you really want is attention, but I can guarantee you this, if you continue your present course, no one will ever remember you. You'll be a footnote. A punch line.

Ah yeah I agree that they are some of the best chapters he's written. I guess you're right about inner monologue, as we all can interpret it differently.

I'm just glad I didn't have to watch Theon go down on Sansa or see whatever the hell GRRM was alluding to about Ramsay, his dogs and what they did to Jeyne. ****ed up.

Yeah and Ned. I wonder if things would have played out differently had it been Sansa or Arya for real. That seems to be a big part of his denial.

The fact that we didn't get Theon in front of the heart tree begging the Old Gods for forgiveness is really big missed opportunity, dramatically speaking.

Yeah that's the kind of thing I mean. There was a lot more going on with Theon/Reek than the show covered. He went from squealing on Sansa to helping her escape in the space of a week or so without that major moment of realisation. The godswood could have helped there.

On another note I'm aware of the theories surrounding Tyrion's parentage. I never paid much attention to it before but I find it interesting how Tyrion has survived both greyscale and the flux seemingly. Dany also spoke of the immune systems of Targaryens (well according to Viserys). I do find it all.....curious.

Dany's quite literally full of **** there. In the history of the Targaryen dynasty quite a few of them have died of illness. If she followed her family tree back to great-grandfather she'd find that the only reason he got the throne was because plague killed the majority of the other heirs at the time.
