Game of Thrones General (Non-Book Related) Discussion Thread - Part 1

My impression is that Grey Worm was following Dany's instructions, period. He said Dany told them to execute every enemy of the Queen, which is why they were executing the soldier prisoners. They would have killed Jon imo if a consensus hadn't been reached regarding electing a new King/Queen. Once Bran was chosen, they had to abide by the decisions he made regarding Tyrion and Jon. That's my take on it anyways.

It seems to me there would not need to be a consensus about what to do with Jon. So Greyworm comes in and sees Jon standing over the dead body of his queen and his first instinct is to arrest him? And this was after it was established earlier in the episode that Greyworm was ready to throw down with Jon when he tried to intervene when they were about to execute the prisoners. Sorry but to me none of that makes any sense. The unsullied and dothraki are not going to take the man who just killed their queen prisoner

Look, Brienne's ending could have gone so, so much worse.

I would have much preferred Brienne to have died in combat. But that's just personal preference and I don't think what they did with her was objectively bad like some of the other characters. That particular thing wasn't good or bad for me. I just wish she would have had more to do this season She literally contributed nothing. Like she was just there to have sex with Jamie and that was it. It kind of disappointed me because I love her character

I don't have any problem with where people ended up. Jon is going where he really belongs. I'm happy for him. Sansa is ruling the north. Wow that girl has come a long way. Tyrion is the hand of the king. That's great. Bran will be a good ruler and Tyrion will be able to guide him. My problem is with all the stuff in between. The stuff that makes no sense. Greyworm had absolutely lost his mind at that point. And he just let's Jon and Tyrion live? Then he gives a big speech about wanting justice. So he just let's Jon go? Huh? Jon had just killed the woman that set them free. The unsullied are not the type to take prisoners. There were just shown executing Lannister prisoners. But the guy who killed their queen? He's free to go. It was just so dumb to me and made no sense

Some of that was definitely not the writers finest hours. Lost wasn't nearly as disappointing, but WAY more WTF?? IMO.

Well, they at least included her in the Battle of Winterfell, which was good, though they didn't show much of her there. But since they left her out of the Battle of the Bastards AND Jon's quest north of the wall to capture the wight, it was nice to see her actually get in on the action for once. But yeah, other than that, all she did was get knighted and get laid.

I loved the scene of her getting knighted. And yeah I guess she was included in the battle. From what I could see(which wasn't much) she just got smashed up against the wall and screamed into the air. Oh well. Her ending was the smallest issue I had lol

Again, this is just my personal opinion but GOT was worse. Mostly because I had almost given up on Lost by the time the ending had rolled around. I never gave up on GOT until last night. I enjoyed most of this season actually. But they really blew it for me last night. I have watched many episodes of GOT with my mouth wide open. It was always for a different reason than last night though lol

But they have Bran now to confirm the truth so it is written down accurately. That was the whole point behind electing Bran as the king. But, I just think it goes to show there will be very little peace. Brienne is already making assumptions like she did between Renely and Stannis. Also, I can't imagine once Daario finds out about Daenerys, he won't gather his forces and attack Westeros.

I'd argue that Daario would be heading after Jon Snow.

Would have been kind of cool if the show ended on Bran and his eyes turning blue, or if at least SOMETHING unexpected happened that showed there was more to this ending.

I'm still just shocked that the whole NK/WW saga was wrapped up and swept under the rug after episode 3...and that this 6-episode season basically had 3 main villains dispatched in the span of 3-4 episodes.

What a ****ty ending to the series. So many question marks. So i guess everyone was just a pawn in Bran's Three-Eye'd Raven GOT.
My overall reaction.

Buetooth activated.

GOT is my favourite series of all time and likely to never be topped for me.

I loved every season from 1-7. The 7th was my favourite of them all despite its flaws.

Season 8 was ok. Not great not bad either. Im not sure about the ending. I guess whatever. Its not terrible despite many things that didnt make sense.

Im sad it all ended.

Gonna wait for the prequel now , The Long Night or however its called i guess.

The thing with the NK though. I dont get all the whining. Im certain any way that ends with the NK losing is unrealistic and moronic. They wanted for the living to win and they did the best job possible imho.

It would have been pretty super duper cool epic if the NK killed them all and the whole land of Westeros was covered in ice and then the NK would finally map out the whole world and find whats west of Westeros.

Anything other than that is subpar and as good as it can be.

Whining that they killed him so easily doesnt make sense. You re not getting the point. They shouldnt be able to in the first place.

Her speech to the Dothraki and the Unsullied did sell me on her heel turn.
Yeah, that helped. She’s been great this season - the best I’ve seen of her.

This is absolutely inexcusable now. Like... what is going on here? And I'm sorry.. I'm a production guy, so this does frustrate me. Actors - what are you doing? When the cameras are rolling, clean up your freaking space. Help us all about my making sure you put your drinks away before cameras are pointed at you. Goodness.

Goes to show that this was a chaotic production. Everyone must have been really tired or something.

Whining? I don't see anyone whining. I see people saying it could have been done better. They have beaten into our heads that the real fight is to the north for multiple seasons. And then poof its resolved in one episode. I think most people's complaints are that it was rushed. Maybe you are referring to folks on Twitter as whiners? Nobody on this board is whining. They are just expressing their opinions. Very valid opinions in my mind

I feel like she was working overtime to sell Dany's last scenes, despite or perhaps because of her personal dislike of them. She wanted to send her character off on as high a note as she could salvage.
Right thing to do in the circumstances IMO, and it did help her character and the perception of her acting skills. It softens the blow for me as her speech was very convincing.

Haha, I don't know how this can be that difficult. Just bin your drinks once finished or when shooting starts.

Right. And it makes her look like a professional that she tried so hard to sell it onscreen, even though it's not much of a secret she was really unhappy about the direction they sent her character in.

She really did kill it this season Good for her. I hope it opens up some more opportunities for her

So the guy on set whose job it is to make sure there are no water bottles visible in the shot doesn't see it, the guy behind the camera doesn't see it, other observers on set don't comment on it, the actors don't care, the editor, the guy who colorizes, NOBODY thinks it's a big enough deal to remove the bottle or do another take?

I know these goofs happen in every production but come on, there are so many eyeballs on this.

Well Daenerys had a Starbucks cup sitting on the table right in front of her, way more obviously than that water bottle, and nobody noticed that either apparently.

So basically, if what I'm hearing is correct, the writers wanted out as soon as possible. So they said to hell with it and rushed everything to a conclusion.

Disappointing, but not surprising. Another good television show ruined by its very creators because they wanted out.

It's too stupid to be real, but it is. I can only assume that tons of people saw it but they all wanted the day to end sooner than later so they kept their mouths shut.
