Ghost Rider 2 In The Works - Part 2

Studios would much rather make money than a good movie. I guarantee if I came to a studio knowing the future, and I had a good script vs a poor one, but the poor one would make 100mil more, they'd use the crappier script. Every time. It's a business about money. Ideally, a film would be good AND make money, but studios are a business, and like any other business, $$$ talks.

I know. But it seemed like you wanted the film to make money, and not be good.

A good movie that makes money makes more money than a bad movie that makes money. Plus a good movie brings in prestige like awards and critical praise which means even more money indirectly.

Transformers (well 2 and 3) is the very definition of bad movie that makes money. And they made looooaaaadddsss of money.

They're also an exception to the rule in that they were already well marketed and had a built in fanbase coupled with the summer favorites of explosions, action, cheesy dialogue and lots of other flashy bits. It didn't take much to impress people to go.

They're really big budgeted B movies and that's the appeal. They have been the definition of mindless summer fun these past few years so I can totally see why they've brought in as much money as they have.

Yea but with Transformers, making a movie about giant robots going to war, and it being as much fun as watching paint dry, is an amazing failure. Even with all those brilliant action scenes (and they are brilliant) the films still end up boring me to tears. Well shot and created action doesn't mean **** if the story and characters are sooooo bad.

Well I don't think it is that black and white. Yes the studios want to make boatloads of cash but I don't think they literally have the attitude "This script is garbage but it will make more money than this other script which is better so we are going to make the garbage script." I think it all comes down to the studios want to try their best to make a film that their target audience can see. In summertime especially who makes up the largest percentage of the audience? Little kids, teens, and young adults. So they try to cater to that crowd which yes...can lead to terrible dumb downed films such as the Transformers franchise.

See, there used to be blockbusters that were smart AND still catered to that bloodlust for spectacle we have. It just seems to be more fleeting nowadays.

What? ALL film scripts go through various drafts. Sometimes with one writer, sometimes with like 2 or more. It's how writing scripts go.

You write one draft. Then another. And another, until it's good.

I know, my bad. What I meant to say is that the drafts should be made by one person and one vision. That's why something like Inception or Social Network gets made.

They still happen on rare occasion but it is almost a lost art. The studios just see big dumb popcorn flicks as a simpler, cheaper alternative than anything deeply story driven.

I think it is the same it has been overall. There are still those type of films being made. Inception, X-Men: First Class, The Dark Knight, The Matrix, etc. etc. I just would assume that these days there are more and more movies being released and originality is harder to come by that the awfulness is easier point out.

I'm gonna be honest here. I've always had such low expectations for the Transformers movies that I really could not care less about their stories. I watch them for the spectacle. Especially the 3D and Imax experiences. If the action is enough to blow me away then I got my money's worth.

I don't hold movies like The Dark Knight up to that same standard since I expect better from a film like that but Transformers and GI Joe definitely go in the "Shut up and fight" category. This is where I'm putting Ghost Rider. Crank's stories weren't crazy intriguing but the spectacle of it was entertaining. Gamer surprised me by being the best of both worlds so maybe Ghost Rider will too. I'm just not banking on it.

.
I'm with Savage though. I dont expect anything from those movies. I dont expect a good story, or characters, or intelliegnce. I just want to see some stupid shat. Sometimes, you gotta have a nasty greasy cheap cheese burger every once in a while. It's not good all the time...but man, when you crave it, it tastes gooood.

I'm definitely interested in this new origin thing they're talking about. It'll be interesting to see what they're doing.

I have a feeling, it will be in the same vein as the "original" origin...but there'll be a different twist that "wasn't shown." :woot:

Personally I can't wait to see Zarathos and Johnny Blaze being shown as two seperate entities at some point.

I'm also anxious to see if the scene where GR rips a car in half made into the finished product.

I wouldn't call them fun. They are snooze fests.

No, but what is a snooze fest is the moment you complain. And it isn't "fun" either. Are you trying to be a "TheVileOne" knock off? Because if you are then it certainly isn't working, all I ever hear from you is negativity in general to be honest. Is there anything that you, you know? Actually like?

You can't "TOTALLY" blame studios, the people who work for them got bills to pay, things to buy, and a family to feed. It's not their fault that the world revolves around money big time.

Actually I think studios CAN be blamed. I know that they along everyone needs money but at least they can get talented and passionate people to work on the films and let them create their own visions instead of middling in every aspect. Sure, there will always be studio interference but if kept at minimum level, we can get some real classics. I mean just look at X-Men: FC. It's a freaking Fox movie. After XO Wolverine, I was expecting another razzie worthy crapfest but it turned out to be one of the best superhero movies ever made along with likes of Dark Knight, Iron Man 1 and Thor.

You're preparing yourself for disappointment.
