It's pretty shocking that it has taken this long for a sequel to get a move on, but finally Columbia Pictures is gearing up for GHOST RIDER 2, the sequel to the smash-hit comic book adaptation from 2007 that saw Nicolas Cage as a stunt motorcyclist Johnny Blaze who gives up his soul to become a hellblazing vigilante, to fight against power hungry Blackheart, the son of the devil himself. What we learned this evening is that Columbia Pictures is officially out to writers to pen the sequel and that Nicolas Cage is in fact attached and signed on to return.

As we all know, Ghost Rider: Spirits of Vengeance is filming in Romania, especially in a lot of castles and cathedrals. Then I really think that Neveldine and Taylor are going for a truly Gothic and dark tone.
I guess the fact that I have no attatchment to the Ghost Rider character/series and the fact that Nicolas Cage is teaming up with the guys who made Gamer and Crank 2 leaves me in a position where I'm perfectly comfortable with the movie being campy or ridiculous or over-the-top. But I do like the fact that they're going for something more Gothic than the first movie.

I know which villain should menace Ghost Rider in the sequel...

A darker tone sounds good, now if it has "much better" fight scenes then it will be pretty cool.

Ghost Rider vs Blackheart was LAME in the first movie (except for the flaming shotgun", and the rest of the battles were only sub-par.

Nicolas Cage will be at the film festival by my town towards the end of February. Thinking of asking him a few Ghost Rider questions

Ask him why he's making us suffer by filming another one.

Ask him if this one will have better fight scenes than the first one.

The first film looked crap, and I had no interest in seeing it. Still haven't seen it. But this sequel, with the Crank/Gamer team at the helm, possibly with Nicholas Cage on Bad Lieutenant form rather than Bangkok Dangerous form, could be a nutso grindhouse treat.

The first film wasn't amongst the most engaging Superhero flicks I've seen, but it was an enjoyable popcorn romp for what it was. I am not really at all familiar with Ghost Rider's mythos however I was aware that Blackheart was royally gimped in the movie.

^As a GR fan I enjoyed the first movie, but sure there could be massive improvements made for this sequel, and hopefully they have been made, because the character itself could make a great movie series.

I am hoping for improvements too. I liked the first one, but it could have been much, much better. Fingers crossed the sequel is better.

I agree. The problem for me was that even as a popcorn movie it was fairly lame. It didn't have one good fight. Ghost Rider pretty much punk'd everyone in about a minute. I mean, come on, when you're adapting a character that's known for his visual badassery, at least give us a good fight scene!

The first film had a terrible and cliche plot, terrible fights scenes (GR beat everyone way too easy), terribly unfunny comedy (WTF was up with the monkeys, the 8 ball, the candy, etc), and was just overall terribly written. MEPHISTO JUST STANDS LIKE AN IDIOT AS HIS FIRST GR RUNS AWAY IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION WHEN HE CAN TELEPORT!!! What kind of writing is that? Then later on, he says "Give me the power back" Johnny says "No" and he just screams and leaves...again, like an idiot. What kind of devil is this

My expectations for this are very low.

I agree, Mephisto was pretty ******. So was Blackheart. They boned the villains pretty bad

I only saw the movie once when it was theaters but from what I remember I always cracked up when that one generic villain who was always sweating showed up.

With Mephisto though, it was made pretty obvious that he didnt have much power on our plane, hence why he had to send the Ghost Rider after anyone escaped from hell. Even Blackheart says to him, "We both you cant harm me here." when they encounter each other on Earth.

The question, why are they making a sequel? The only way I'd be interested if the director of The Exorcist [William Friedkin] was directing the film with an R-rating.

SONY's ONLY making this film in a feeble attempt to keep the Ghost Rider rights away from Marvel Studios.

No doubt there is truth in that statement but the first one wasn't a financial stinker so they are optimistic this could be a franchise.

A number of franchises aren't huge $$$ makers or do that 2.5 times budget you always hear about for films to be hits. Otherwise we'd never have the Blades, Underworlds or Resident Evil films to name a few.

Now that filming is over I'm anxious to see a trailer. While the first one was far from perfect it did set things up well to be improved upon. I hope that's what we get in this film.

He teleported several times in our plane. He could easily have poofed in front of him, but didn't. Also, let's not forget the "Last ride" of Caretaker...which was pointless as hell.

People still complaining about the first movie? I liked it...

the first one wasnt horrible. it just couldve/shouldve been better. best scene to me was when him and the Caretaker were ghostriding together. i just really dug how Caretaker looked in Ghostrider form. flaming horses are always cool tho. lol

Sony is going to ruin this so that if it ever did go back to Marvel, they wouldn't want anything to do with it.

After the last movie, I have no reason to be optimistic that this will be better.

Eva Mendes would need to be naked riding the hell cycle for me to even look at any posted images.
